MOC aside I would think accessories wise Savage would constitute the larger budget hence being a DM and Warrior with just glasses would be an elite but who am I to know? Either way Im buying both.

If mattel's profits are down its because they keep sinking money into barbies that no one buys. Girls have smartphones and ipads, and have no need. Hot Wheels Sell, WWE Figures Sell, Barbies are constantly on clearence when stores reset there toy departments. Can you point me to the sales figures please? Aren't you the one posting about sales numbers being down in Q1, the lowest since the crash, and your asking him to provide you sales figures. You must be kidding me, some folks man

You must be kidding me, some folks man obviously didn't read the whole chain. Sales figures for Mattel can be found in 5 seconds. The breakdown of those figures cannot. This dude has made a sweeping statement based off of 2 walmarts and 2 teenages girls. It has 1 article backing up barbies decline.

Can you point me to the sales figures please? Sorry i don't have any, i just have a girlfriend who has 2 daughters who do nothing buy play on there smartphones and ipads. Also i have 2 walmarts, 1 kmart, 1 target, 2 shopkos, 1 toysrus in my area. I have seen tons of marked down barbie junk some places mark the stuff down 2-3 times and it still does not sell. Also i have 2 goodwill's and a salvation army store and what do i see every time i am there ?? You guessed it... barbies. Target stores will even dump those expensive sets that don't move to goodwill after they give up on them. Ok well if I was to bet on the market based off that sort of info, I would be a bazillionaire. My boy is 13 and never touched a figure in his life. Walmart has 6300 store, how can 2 gauge the Barbie market? None the less at the same token, you have targets with Elites at 10 dollars and 4 packs for 12.50. Ringside has new basics for 8 dollars. In the UK we have several excellent Elite figures that in the past would have sold out in minutes, readily available such as Rude, Umaga, Finn Balor Undertaker and Kane WM figs are half price in a discount store, (our equiv of Big Lots. The secondary market for figs from the past year has collapsed on ebay. Etc etc. Barbie has been in decline for years because of the change in tech, but also there are only so many ways you can make the same doll. Mattel have this issue now with WWE. They have been lucky to get a lot of new wrestlers on the roster. But with old school characters there is only so much they can do. We are probably not going to get line killers like Bob Backlund, Harley Race etc etc, because they simply wouldn't sell globally.

Yeah I agree - stupid idea to do them back to front. macho is going to be like e38 at best. No jacket no nothing.
I hope and pray I am wrong, but I just don't see it.

Totally agree - it seems so... *strange* to release them in different lines/packaging. Ideally, we should have had them in the same (or consecutive) Elite series - but if Warrior had to be a DM figure (...those little tassels and glasses must be gold-plated...), then at least give us a DM Macho to match.

I delighted for folks who wanted the Ultimate Maniacs. I personally didn't but don't object to their release at all.

I guess there's always the slight chance Savage isn't Ultimate Maniacs however, the image on Ringside suggests it is. I think (all though technically a re release) we should of got the Orange trunks Warrior with both titles as a DM and the Ultimate Maniacs as an Elite. I can't wait to see what Warrior is like in the Elite legends series... I think we're getting that Warrior in the legends line though I hope so, that would be great and a re release which would actually be good

Can someone name a toy line that has a successful collectors line that sells figures that are no longer relevant (older unknown to kids). All the lines I can think of all the characters are still very much relevant. Even the original trilogy Star Wars characters are all still about whether it be in the latest movie or the kids focused Clone Wars and Rebels tv shows. Kids know who Boba Fett is, whereas they have no idea who Ravishing Rick Rude is.
Point being, if the characters are still relevant then collector lines will work because kids will buy them. I've said this many times before, collectors are not the focus of toy companies - kids are.
While it bugs me that Warrior and Macho won't be in the same packaging it doesn't at all surprise me. But to completely contradict myself it doesn't make sense that they didn't package them the same. What I mean is, if they follow my logic that these older characters won't be sought after much by kids and they are in fact directed more at collectors, then why the heck wouldn't they package them the same. It really just doesn't make any sense. A tag team released at the same time but in different packaging. I would've preferred them to be released as a two pack like Rock & Farooq were.

Profit margin in Q1 was the smallest since the last crash. Share price has trended downwards for 2 years. If mattel's profits are down its because they keep sinking money into barbies that no one buys. Girls have smartphones and ipads, and have no need. Girls are also more into Frozen than Barbie, and Disney has that license. I remember reading that Frozen ended Barbie's 40-year (or something) streak as the #1 selling girls toy. Mattel has never seen a competitor like that. For boys who want toy cars, Hot Wheels are still the way to go. As for this thread, I agree with the OP's sentiments. But to me I think it's more tragic that Macho Man will (in all likelihood) not come with all the proper accessories. If he lacks a hat, glasses OR jacket than you can't replicate the most well-known images of that team. The last Macho Man elite with the same color scheme lacked a jacket. I don't see why this one will have it.

It recently moved to Hasbro...

I think we all know that we won't get a proper entrance coat. Even if it was a DM. Those days are LONG gone.
But given we have a macho hat, glasses, and the Sting DM jacket (base colour of which is RED........
Well.....you an use your imagination.....

Mattel has always found ways to ruin lines. I think the new Legends Elite line announced today is a sign of that with the rereleasing of some hard to find figures, especially that Warrior. I have collected toys, comics, etc long enough to know that rereleases kill collecting. As much as we hate to admit it, the secondary market helps fuel interest in collecting. Those "Holy Grail" figures keep us going in hopes we will someday own it, and that keeps us interested in newer waves as well. Rereleasing all of these harder to find figures, like the TRU Big Bossman earlier this year, takes a major prize from someone's collection because now anyone can get him. Is that going to leave a good taste in the mouths of collectors who hunted and hunted and spent hours upon hours on eBay looking for them? I believe that is why, even thought the quality has gone down a little in the newer waves, the 6" Star Wars Black line from Hasbro continues to do so well. Wave 1 now sometimes bring more than $100 per figure. I know R2-D2 has gone over $100 now, and Darth Maul has done so for a long time. Does Hasbro go and rerelease these figures? Nope. That keeps people buying and buying the figures because there is always hope that collectors will be able to get the newest Grail. I don't think anyone thought the Anakin Skywalker figure from that line would be so sought after (usually pulling in $60 to $80 now). It is a horrible figure! lol They haven't gone and rereleased it though. That's why collectors are so interested in it. Collectors need that unreachable dream figure, comic, whatever to keep their mouths watering. If every figure was easy to obtain, then the hunt would be over and the thrill would be gone. I just think rereleasing hard to find figures kills the collectability of a line... the interest in a line. Like it or not, we need that figure that we know we will probably never have. The longing fuels us. What fun is it if the thrill is gone? You gotta think though, Mattel is a company that needs to make money. They don't make a penny off the secondary market so of course they're gonna re-release figures like Bossman and the legends line figures because they clearly only use those secondary markets to realize they're still in demand. I do agree it kills the collecting of these figures but at the end of the day Mattel just wants to make their money

This Savage would have made an amazing Defining Moment, with Jacket..... Warrior could have been a regular Elite. The original DM Savage with Jacket was amazing, this could have been great.... as a regular Elite, I have my doubts....
