Andrew Shaw gets traded, and a part of me dies an untimely death.

I'm glad I finally get an offseason where I'm not praying that the Panthers change their uniforms. I don't like the new logo as much as the old one. I think the actual leaping Panther looks ok, but I'm iffy on the new shield thing they have going on.

Well, it looks like the Blackhawks won't be winning it again any time soon with the cap crunch. I just hope the Kings don't win the Cup again.

Tomorrow is the HOF elections. I never really found Lindros worthy of election. Great player at his best, but couldn't sustain it long enough.

It was only because of injuries. If Lindros stayed healthy he'd have been a top 10 all time forward

Well today's the big day.
As far as Lindros goes, injuries have stopped other Hall of Famers in other sports from making it.

Eric Lindros, Rogie Vachon, Sergei Makarov, and Pat Quinn were all elected to the Hall. Probably seems like a weak class at first glance but when you look at it, Vachon won a Vezina and 3 Cups, Makarov won a ton of Gold while in Russia, Quinn won 2 Jack Adams and made 11 straight playoff appearances, and of course Lindros, when 100%, was an absolute monster and won an MVP. Not too bad.

Roenick got snubbed, as did Mogilny and Ricchi. No real issue with Makarov because of how dominate those Russian Olympic teams were in the 70s and 80s but it's always weird when a guy with a ho-hum NHL career gets in because he needs to come with an explanation.
I know the NHL really wanted Lindros to be the next Gretzky level star but he never got there and he really struggled on the back end of his career because he couldn't stay on the ice. I beg you to go look at JR's stats from 90-94 and tell me when Lindros ever had a stretch like that in his entire career. That being said, he should be there in the same way Peter Forsberg should be there. He was prolific when he was out there but he's always been more marketing than great career imo.
It is what it is. Not every guy who deserves it is going to get in every year. Some guys just have to wait.
Also, really happy for Andrew Shaw and his 6 year deal. I'm glad the Hawks aren't paying it, but good for him. At $3.9m a year, the Hawks can use that money on Ladd and sure up the first line that has been on a steady decline with Hossa's age. They need to do something to help Toews out up there and Ladd brings familiarity and leadership. If you're asking me to pick between Ladd and Shaw for the next 2-3 years, I'm going to take Ladd every time. Shaw's 35ish points a year can be replaced with someone like Hartman for a fraction of the cost. That's just business.
The Hawks need to go all-in again next year because Panarin isn't going to be extended imo. So I look for them to do a couple of 1 year veteran deals if they're out there. So like what they did with Brad Richards, who could conceivably return in that 3C spot imo. I'm honestly hoping the Avalanche suck again this year and they make a move for Iginla at the deadline. He's the perfect fit for what they need. Ladd/Toews/Iginla is kind of a dream line for me.

It is the Hockey Hall of Fame, not the NHP Hall of Fame. I do think Andreychuk got slighted too.
If only the Hawks would've got Iginla during one of their Cup runs. At least Kimmo went out on top.

Panarin will be resigned, they will do whatever it takes to make that happen.
And Shaw is a good player, but 3.9 on 6 years is way too much for him. If that's a 3 year deal or 2.75 on the 6, it's fine. Horrid contract for a third liner.

If that's a 3 year deal or 2.75 on the 6, it's fine. Horrid contract for a third liner. They'd likely have to trade Anisimov, or worse yet Seabs, to even get in on the bidding for Panarin. Not a single big contract drops off next year, and they still have to figure out the defensive situation. Pokka is probably going to get a longterm deal after this season too. They're really just not in a position to bring Panarin back unless they move parts, bigger parts, and get a discount of sorts from Panarin. Everyone said the same thing about Saad, who is a more valuable two-way player than Panarin will ever be, and he's collecting $6m a year in Blue Jacket hell. Assuming Panarin has another similar year, he's going to be too expensive and the Hawks aren't going to be able to do anything about it. I look for Panarin, who will only be 25, to sign a similar deal as Tarasenko. I see that being the blueprint for what he'll demand, and likely get. I mean I do desperately hope they can keep him, but I just don't see it working based on the numbers. As for Stamkos, I think either Tampa signs and trades him or he signs with Toronto on Friday. I could see Detroit initiating the sign and trade if he'll do it. We'll see. I kind of wish he'd stick it out in Tampa. They have a helluva core there that's pretty fun to watch.

Paladin is more important than Seabrook to the team going forward. I believe they find a way. That's why they moved Bickell and Shaw.

Paladin is more important than Seabrook to the team going forward. I believe they find a way. That's why they moved Bickell and Shaw. They're actively shopping for help on defense. They can't afford to lose Seabrook until one of TVR or Pokka emerges as a top 4. Even then there is considerable risk in leaving a giant gap in the back end if they do move him. Premier defenders are just as difficult to find as elite scorers. Sacrificing defense at the expense of the offense isn't a solution. Not to mention that Panarin is a one directional player on that line with Kane who also only plays one-way, albeit he does get back more than he ever has in his entire career. What a mega deal with Subban to Nashville for Weber. Never saw that coming in a million years. Glad Stamkos is staying in Tampa. It's his best shot to win imo.

Seabrook worth his cap hit. He's good but Keith holds him higher than he really is

I guess Nashville needed to shake things up. They did get creamed in Game 7. Star for star trade.
I think Edmonton got fleeced.

Seabrook worth his cap hit. He's good but Keith holds him higher than he really is I disagree. Seabrook is an anchor back there and a better actual defender than Keith. Keith is the better total package player with better speed but Seabrook is his counter weight. They're optimized when they're together, which they didn't get to do for virtually all of last year. Hjalmarsson is a pure stay home defender, and works fairly well with Keith but then without Seabrook you have nothing to anchor your second pairing. That move doesn't work with what they have in-house. They would need to sign a veteran defender and that wouldn't be cheap either. Seabrook isn't expendable based on the current build of the team. Maybe that changes after this coming season, but not right now. Also, you're talking about moving one of the core pieces of the team that is an Assistant Captain and won 3 cups with this group for the sake of signing a flashy one-way winger. It's not the right move imo.
