I think everyone will agree the Jaden Smith one, is pretty superior.

I loved the first movie as a kid, thought the second one was boring and thought the third one was straight up nuts! I watched the first one again last year and I thought it held up pretty well.

The first one because we meet the Cobra Kai in that movie, Strike First Strike Hard!

The first is still one of my all time favorites. I still get goosebumps when Daniel kicks Johnny at the end.
Second one is very good too.
Third... not so much.
Fourth... Ugh.
Remake... better than I expected, but no where near as magical as the original.

PUT EVERY SINGLE ONE EXCEPT #1 IN A BODY BAG!!!! (the beginning of #3 is kind of neat, fwiw... since it's the post-cursor or whatever you'd call it, to #1's end... etc. #2 just goes elsewhere, total lamesauce and the hurricane and all of that crap...4 iirc was just lame as hell, had a Rocky 5 vibe to it... didn't like the Jayden Smith one, but I admit that kid drives me nuts and as a result it's a little hard for me to take him seriously...or any of those tards from that family in general these days)

I think everyone will agree the Jaden Smith one, is pretty superior. I would be shocked if more than one or two others would agree w/ you on that.... at least, if this forum's age demo is more 21+ vs. 13+ these days. I don't know anymore. But the original vs. a remake of the original-- I think the original will usually win-out to those who were around to see both. Even though a lot of friends who loved the original and are my age etc. liked the remake.... I guess *I* just don't enjoy remakes of classics with total (or almost total) recasts, so it isn't JUST Jaden Smith which my comment does sort of allude to above... this remake generation we're currently in- not digging it, no interest in the new Ghostbusters, etc.... it's not just Karate Kid remakes and stuff for me... No Rick Moranis, no likey for Nicky and the new Ghostbusters.... ick.

I think everyone will agree the Jaden Smith one, is pretty superior. Doubt it, though I'm not going to lie, Jackie Chan was really good in it. The rest of it, poor, he doesn't even learn Karate for goodness sake, it's Kung Fu.

I think everyone will agree the Jaden Smith one, is pretty superior. I think everyone will agree that sarcasm rules but largely loses its comedic appeal from people who inevitably don't get it... I like the first one the best. By like a country mile. Johnny is the real Karate Kid.

I actually really enjoyed the remake. The original is decent but I don't find it holds up too well.
This remake is actually my favorite of them all.

Your opinion. They're still good, but I don't think they're great movies. The remake isn't a great movie ether, but I liked it the best. Just really dug it. I don't think it's a joke though. Definitely one of the better remakes out there

To expand my point on why I like the remake a lot:
The sound design and mixing and the locations and cinematography are all excellent. Seeing so many Chinese monuments and landmarks is really cool, and getting to learn and be immersed in the Chinese culture is a really cool addition to the film that really makes it stand out. The relationship between Dre and Mei is actually really well done. Seeing them get to know each other and develop a friendship while learning about each other's culture, whether it's food or music, is really neat. Add to that the student/teacher dynamic, and there is two really good core character relationships driving the film forward, making me care about Dre a lot more than I anticipated going in.
The way the film dealt with the bullying and being the new kid felt on point. It felt close to real in regards to how bullying can be, unlike most movies where it's very forced and doesn't seem real. Also stuff like watching the struggle of Dre trying to learn the new language, and see how he progressively learns more through the film leading to a nice moment where he puts what he learns to good use in a fantastic scene felt very rewarding.
The film also really puts focus on how martial arts isn't just to be used for fighting, and should be a tool of peace.
I understand why some may not like it, but I do think a lot of people watched this movie with the intention to hate it because it was remaking a favorite of theirs, which will usually jade you regardless of a film's quality.

My favorite running gag in How I Met Your Mother is how Barney has always believed that Cobra Kai were the heroes/ good guys in the movie.
First is the best.

The first is the best around! Nothing's ever going to keep it down. But seriously, I love it. I wore a karate gi all the time when I was 4 because of this movie. Sadly, my family never actually had the money for me to go to Karate school. I enjoy 3, though I can't actually call it a good movie. The villain is so over the top that I just have fun with it. I liked 4 when it came out, but I honestly don't remember much about it now. It's probably been 20 years since I saw it. Haven't seen the remake. It looked pretty good, wrong martial art not withstanding, but I just never got around to it. It certainly wasn't the cultural phenomenon of the original. I also remember liking the cartoon and NES game, but don't remember many details now.

I just re-watched the original not long ago, and I fail to see how it doesn't hold up. If anything I'd say much like Back to the Future, Princess Bride, Goonies, & Ghostbusters, it's a timeless classic.

As strange as it sounds, I have never seen the first three Karate Kid movies from beginning to end. I do plan on doing it in the future. After doing a bit of research, The Karate Kid was the 5th highest grossing film of 1984. Grossing in at $90,815,558.

It hits every nerve every time I watch it.
