No I am not kidding. I was VERY pleased to see a few squash matches with local talent on RAW last night. It is a lost art that is SORELY needed in the WWE these days. It's lets guys/gals come out and look dominant, get on tv, and get over with the crowd. It keeps people away from each other on TV, helping the build towards PPV matches and creating more drama and intrigue. It lets lower card guys build themselves up too without it just being a fluke win over a mid card or upper card person. I'd rather see Heath Slater beat local guy #1 than see him get a roll up on Kevin Owens because Zayn distracted him during the match.
It also helps make the main events or big matches on RAW/SD mean something. SO when we do get a big main event, it is a lot more interesting and means more.
I REALLY hope this is a permanent thing they are bringing back because as much as people think they don't want to see 2-3 squash matches and promos on RAW, it is much better for the product if they do.

Yeah, all the other promotions would do it back in the day. Not sure why WWE went away from it for so long.
They probably picked it up from NXT. They've been using local talent squashes on almost every show for some time. On a one hour show sometimes it gets to be overkill, but it definitely makes the big shows seem even more important. When you have three hours of RAW and a shallow roster, it just makes sense.

Huge positive, though I would prefer they don't rely entirely on the total annihilation format going forward. Some offense from the jobber wouldn't hurt in the future.

Love that they are back, wish they were around when I was going strong. Could've been a great jobber lmao.

I find your username and signatures to be offensive and creepy! I imagine you look like Strowman's victim from RAW.

I like Nia no matter who she wrestles, but Brain Strongman looked like he could succeed in singles competition.

Always loved squash matches when done right. One of the cases where I started to get really sour on squash matches was Umaga. I get why they did it at first, but seemingly years went by with him doing absolutely nothing besides coming out and squashing a jobber or two. He literally had no direction or progress , they'd just send him out to beat up a jobber week after week after week. Don't even compare to Ryback because after just a few months of handicap squashes he was main eventing. And went on with his character from there. Didn't resort right back to squash matches after the fued.

The best thing is they can use it as a way to bring up new talent where the 'jobber' actually gets a surprise win and joins the main roster. Obviously, this would be more difficult now with the NXT set-up... and the hardcore viewer is aware of basically every guy employed.. but it would be an awesome way to hotshot a current ROH/NJPW talent to the main roster.

It's funny you say this. I watched portions of RAW last night for the first time in a long time, and I'm watching the Fatal 4 ways and thinking. . "why are they giving this away for free?" I guess I missed the squash matches from last night. I also was surprised at the amount of "finishing moves" that were kicked out of.

That's why guys like Mr. Irrelevant exist. I believe he had some offense against Neville. (I think it's actually a fitting gimmick. Take the son of Mr. Perfect, draft him last in the Mr. Irrelevant spot, and actually call him that).

I'd think that the Mr. Irrelevant thing would perhaps eventually lead to Axel actually winning a match where he can then rub it in everyones face that he is relevant. I doubt that's ever going to happen, but it would be logical.

I've been advocating for the return of squashes and generally fewer star vs. star on TV. Give guys mystique and build anticipation for big time matches.

I'm all for it. As long as they don't get carried away with it like they did during the Prime Time Wrestling days.

But I'd rather see Owens come out, fight a jobber for a few minutes, and cut a promo afterwards than watch him fight Ziggler or whoever. Things are a lot more meaningful that way. A nice mix of jobber matches, promos, one or two midcard matches, and a main event would be ideal.

Without enhancement talent, there would be no superstars but the correct wrestlers have to be featured and done right. You cant have guys like Sami Zayn or Enzo Amore whipping jobbers on their own for several weeks in a row.
