Probably also because the show airs on the USA Network which is owned by NBCUniversal.. So there ya go..lol...
But in all honesty, it is a pretty stupid name... Universal Championship... It makes no sense.

SmackDown has the World Title, Stephanie wants to be better so she has the Universal Title.
I don't agree with what King Patrick Star said about new titles randomly carrying on the lineage of retired titles. When New Day drops their Titles which they call the WWE World Tag Team Titles, Steph will then rename them the WWE Universal Tag Team Titles. SmackDown will then rename theirs the WWE World Tag Team Titles. And the Women's will become Universal Women's/Women's World etc.
They wouldn't carry on the lineage of retired titles due to the name. The original RAW tags were simply the "World Tag Team Titles" SmackDown's will be the "WWE World Tag Team Titles." New titles, new lineages.
Man I said titles a lot.

I don't like the name but I don't understand how anyone can call WWE lazy simply because they don't like or agree with the name choice.

I don't like the name but I don't understand how anyone can call WWE lazy simply because they don't like or agree with the name choice. I think the laziness is more based on belt design. Personally, I would like to have all new belt designs instead of the same one for the Universal/World/Women's and Tag Team titles. Ah well, it's certainly not the end of the world though.

I like the name tbh. It's fresh and new.
It would have been picture perfect if they actually had, ya know, a new design?

just their way of making it seem like raw is the superior show when that's been the furthest thing from the truth since the draft. if you think that's not the case id love to look at the world through your eyes haha

I don't get the problem. It's hardly the first title to use the Universal name, and they call their fans the WWE Universe.
It makes sense, and I like it. I wish the belt was a little darker red, or not solid red at all, but it's fine.

A Universal champion that can only appear on RAW and the occasional ppv's. Whats so "universal" about that? So yeah, the name makes no sense. I get that they are trying to derive it from the WWE Universe, as in us, the fans. If so, why couldn't they just have simply call it the WWE Universe championship? Straight to the point. Would sound better to name the title directly synonymous with the WWE Universe aka the WWE fans. Universal just doesn't quite cut it or just seem that they are trying too hard.

When Raw announced the Universal Championship, I thought it made somewhat sense to call its main title something different. Something to make it stand out from WWE World Title. Yet, they didn't do that for Smackdown Women's Championship or Tag Team Championship, and they haven't renamed Raw's Women's Championship or Tag Team Championship something different. So, why couldn't WWE just have called it the World Championship? They could. But then people would complain that they ignored the unification from a couple of years ago.

Honestly at this rate they should of had it like this
RAW: WWE Championship (leave the title exactly how it is, just call it the WWE title by name) Intercontinental Championship
Smackdown: World Heavyweight Championship (Big Gold but with the Network logo) United States Championship
World Tag Team and Women's titles are cross branded, and the Women's title gets a new design sometime soon so it doesn't look like the WWE title.

The Universal name is terrible as is the look of it. Give me the winged eagle or big gold any day of the week.

Universe is the largest, followed by the world, then multiple continents and lastly USA. I always felt like it was gold, silver and bronze to be honest.
