I switched the Luther head onto a hillbilly Jim body and at least with Sylvian he worked with any la resistance that weren't super tanned. Still we shouldn't have had to do that!
I could have sworn they said ad 13 was gonna be released with regular RA arms but I never saw them

I do believe they said we'd get AD 13 with RA arms. I never saw them personally. I thought it was maybe because La Resistance warmed badly in my area. I figured they wouldn't put out more junk that would jam shelves. But I checked around the net and didn't find any evidence of the series with RA arms.
Looking back, I was way too excited for Teddy Long. IMO he was the best out of the set. But he was way off scale. They really should have just pulled the whole dang set lol. It's a shame Luther had the TTL arms. Wasn't this his only figure? Lol

I remember repainting mine with black trunks, black boots and his logo on his trunks. I was hesitant because I usually only paint figures I have doubles of. But then I was like "f it. He's got TTL arms anyway." Haha

TTL arms or any arms without a bicep cut for that matter, are so difficult to use. I don't see how we honestly played at all with our wrestling figures as a kid. Well, I do, but it was mostly just whacking them together.

BCAs (while I still love them for nostalgia factors) were so basic haha. Entertaining but basic. Same with Hasbros and LJN being the worst playability wise. But I remember still just working it out using some imagination. Plus those LJNs made some sickening slam noises haha.

I grew up playing with LJN (and Remco) figures prior to Hasbro and the lack of articulation didn't bother me at all. I had a great time playing with them for hours on end. Same with WCW Galoob figures. Some of my favorite matches i remember playing were with those lesser articulated figures. Don't get me wrong though, i couldn't do it now. Lol......

I try not to make excuses for things by saying stuff like "Sure, it isn't all it could be, but look at what we had as kids", but I can't help it with wrestling figures. They always were a little behind the curve. By 1996 I already had superhero toys with ball joints and elbows and knees and ankles, but WWF toys were still just bone crunchers? So when people say Mattel basics suck because you can't accurately perform every move I knee jerk to wanna defend them. Basics have 21 p.o.a. that's waaaay more than anything I had as a kid.

I agree completley there. Basics get a bit of a bad rap. I collect both basic and elite. Both have their specific pros and cons IMO, but neither are problematic in any way......unless we're talking botched paint apps, but thats a whole other thread in a different board. Lol. Keeping it to Jakks here, i peraonally appreciate the RA figures way more than DA. Aside from the fact that they were not really compatible in terms of size, the DA figures seemed to get loose joints way more quickly than their RA counterparts. In my experience at least.

DA just moved way too awkwardly for me lol. Especially when they transitioned into TNA figures. The Knockouts were just everywhere. I'd rather use LJNs over DA haha.
I guess at the time (I was like 8-12 during TTL) I didn't really care much about how they moved. I mean barely any of them could sit properly. The lack of elbow joints really didn't get me either. But once RAs hit, I didn't want to go back to TTL.
In my opinion, Jakks Ruthless Aggression and Mattel's Basics are perfect. They move just enough for me. The more parts that move just means more ways to snap or break lol. I've had too many issues with DAs and Elites.

I look back at some of these and cringe haha. Man I had no idea how terrible some of the Jakks figures were. Teddy Long, Joey Styles, Paul Heyman and Paul Bearer were terribly off scale. Now that I look back, weren't there a few other RA era figures with TTL parts? I remember a Treacherous Trios series Trish with a TTL body and RA head. I can't remember if the other two figures were TTL though. I think she came with Christian and Tyson Tomko. Cena from Survivor Series '03 had TTL arms, too: i made this for you:
