It's basically common knowledge that the Brawl for All was one of the worst ideas in the history of WWE. After listening to Bruce Prichard's Podcast where he talked about it, I started to wonder why they didn't get more out of the results than what they did.
So how would you have booked Bart after he won? Granted, he wasn't very charismatic or strong on the mic, but I think they could have given him a better run.
My idea would have been to give him a mouthpiece or boxing "trainer" that would do all the smack talk for him. Heck, it could have been Harvey Wippleman all I care. And then have Bart star mowing through some jobbers and even some decent talent. He could have had a "knock out punch finisher". If it went well, he could end up in a feud with Austin (losing of course). Definitely not putting him in a match with Butterbean for a 35 second career killer shoot boxing match.
What do you guys think?

I would have booked him to have a manager maybe Jim Cornette or somebody along those lines. Give him a decent push to IC contention but he would get nowhere near the World Title.

Jim Cornette was his manager going into the Brawl for All though. So that probably wouldn't have worked. It just goes to show, that even during that era, if Vince didn't have plans for you, you were gonna get over looked. I think Bart Gunn should have been in the Corporation as a hired gun almost. Why not use the toughest man in the WWE in your stable to stop Austin, DX and Foley??

Nowhere near as good as the 70s and 80s. Cornette is one of the best ever and would of easily been a good mouthpiece for Bart Gunn.

If he was, he must have been doing stuff in the back.

He made that cameo in the gimmick battle royal at WM 17 but he was really done by 99. Although like I said a comeback as a manager to Bart Gunn could of been decent.

Without reading the rest of the thread, to avoid me piggybacking off of anyone else's idea.
I would have kept Jim Cornette with Bart, because while Bart was competent in the ring, he really didn't excel on the mic. Following the BFA win, I would have put him in a PPV main event match (not a big 4 or anything) with Austin for the belt, and had Austin go over. People bought into Bart as a badass after he won the BFA, and it would have made Austin look even more badass to beat Bart after he knocked everyone out.
After that I'd have given him a run with the IC belt and kept him on that level, a feud with Billy for it around WM15 would have made a crapton of sense.

I never saw anything in Bart ,even after the BFA victory, but if there was ever a time to run with something for him, that was it. I don't know if anything really would have put him on an upper tier level honestly, he definitely would have had a short shelf life in the best of circumstances, but they could have squeezed more out of him than they got. Pairing him with the Corporation probably would have been the most effective way of doing so. Having him and Ken Shamrock as the enforcer muscle of that group would have legitimized him in the eyes of the fans. Then, eventually having either him or Shamrock turn babyface and lead to a battle of the tough guys probably would have gained him some serious traction. If Shanrock was on his way out, have him put Gunn over and he's set. The perception would be that Gunn won the BFA, and defeated the Worlds Most Dangerous Man.....this guys the real deal! However, long term and on his own, i think the fans would have gotten bored and seen his general lack of personality ,and he'd be in lower mid card mire until he left. But it still would have generated more than what they really did with him.

Form a traditional old fashioned wrestler stable w/ Jim Cornette as manager and have a long-term feud with DX including Bart Gunn and other wrestlers who've had past history w/ DX members. The group would consist of:
Bart Gunn(his former partner was Billy Gunn) Owen Hart(his family was destroyed because of DX) Marty Jannetty(Michaels turned on him and found new friends in HHH and X-Pac) Jeff Jarrett(Road Dogg was his lackey and broke off from out of his shadow)

I read somewhere that Cornette hated the BFA and probably wanted nothing to do w/ it or Bart Gunn. I don't know what I would've done with him because I don't really remember the landscape that well from that time period, but he definitely deserved more than getting his butt kicked by Butterbean.

the Brawl for All should've concluded at Summerslam, not an episode of Raw. It was so anti-climatic.

I don't know what I would've done with him because I don't really remember the landscape that well from that time period, but he definitely deserved more than getting his butt kicked by Butterbean. To be fair, almost everyone in the company hated the brawl for all. Though Cornette actually stopped being a manager in the company because of it. He already wasn't thrilled about The new Midnight Express concept, but a month into their run they lost a big match and were put against each other in the first round of the tournament. Seeing that nothing good was going to come of it, he told JR he was officially retired that night. As for the original point: While Gunn wasn't the best, he was a good hand and could have been used very well after the BFA if they had wanted to. I could easily see him being pushed as a badass in the European of IC title hunt. And, while not a true main eventer, I could see him make a short run for Austin, the way Mero or Jarrett almost did, though those were stopped for other reasons. The fact that he wasn't used at all for months before being put in the ring for a legit fight with a trained boxer was ridiculous. But since the BFA was stupid from the start, I guess it makes sense to use the winner in a stupid way.
