Hi guys, I was up in the attic today looking for stuff to get rid off when I came across a bag of Jakks WWE Classic Super Stars LJN style figures (real loose use of the term ljn style here) anyway these have been in a bag for years. No rain has gotten into my attic, no mice have tried to have their wicked way with them and in general the bag was as seculry closed as the day I put them up here. Now these have been up here untouched for at least 3-5 years. I knew they were in the bag, but when I opened them up they had this kind of sticky, yucky feel to them (no sick comments!) some of them had paint from other figures on them like they had been played with! A couple of them have little blue spots which to me look kind of like mould. I have no idea how they got in such rough shape. They have literally been sitting in a bag, the bag has not even been moved! Anyway is this a common thing for these kind of figures? These pics make it hard to see what I am talking about, but they might give you a better idea than my rambling.

The same thing notoriously happened to the old Hasbro "LJN style" Sgt Slaughter from the 80s. They were referred to as "sunspots" ,although the cause of the discolored spots really didn't have anything to do with being exposed to the sun. Basically it was a problem caused by the substances used to produce the figure. Although i haven't heard of Jakks suffering the same fate as that figure, the condition of a few of those absolutely has the same physical effects that Slaughter had. I guess the only company to actually do LJN figures right was....well....LJN. As i haven't heard of any LJNs molding in the same way if properly stored.

My LJN Piper figure did the same thing, but his left hand turned white. I washed it in soapy water, but it still felt sticky. I ended up keeping it in a ziplock bag filled with baby powder. When I eventually sold it, it still had that sticky feel to it.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I gave Undertaker a good scrubbing with a baby wipe and managed to get all of the crud/paint off him so he looks back to normal, but it was a ton of work so I do not think I will be doing it with the rest. Those blue spots though that you can clearly see on Shawn Michaels (which are on Steve Austin and Triple H as well) do not come off with baby wipe. I used Hulk like strength and nothing! Also the white patches will not come off either I do not know if this is paint that has come off and the white is the rubber underneath.

I had some ruthless figures I bought from a friend who had stored them in his garage. They were immaculate other than the stickiness. I figured it was from constant temperature shifts. I took some warm soapy water to them and then always kept them stored well and they never seemed to have the problem again.

I had the same problem but with some old Mego play sets. For some reason the vinyl was sticky. It didn't pick up any dirt or leve residue on my fingers. It just felt weird lol. Never could get them to go back to normal though.

Unrelated note, those look super cool when they're all shown together like that. Are these all you have, or are you just showing the affected figures?

True. I had stone cold. And it was sticky as hell. But I also had Jeff hardy but that figure wasn't so bad

One thing I forgot to mention was that for some reason, Ric Flair is actually ok. He was not really sticky at all and has far less markd/mould on him. Maybe they used different paint/rubber for him.
When these first started I did plan on collecting them all, but with Mankind and John Cena they started to make them slightly smaller and I hated how they looked so I decided to quit.

hasbro marvel legends do that too over time...its just them deteriorating. I had a Blob and Thor that oozed paint when i pulled them out of the shed after a couple years....i went to wash them and the paint came off.

I remember opening up my LJN Jakks style wrestlers back in 2009 and they were all stick already!!
Not a fan of them at all. The rubber they used for them is a weird type of rubber for sure, much different from the old LJN rubber wrestlers in the 80s.

I wanted to ask, how did these guys size up against the WCW OSFTM Figures that were LJN style?
Originally I remember being so excited to get every single one of these, I bought Flair and realized the size difference and that was it for me, but I never really had a collection of the WCW ones until recently and now I'm like...maybe they size up with them correctly?
As for stickiness, it's usually the paint itself that's getting sticky, maybe try throwing the figures in the freezer for a while.
