I'm getting rid of cable. Looking at options

You can buy an OTA DVR as well. Wal-Mart sells one by Channel Master that I believe records two channels at once. It doesn't come with any storage though. You have to buy that separate. I believe it just takes an sdhc (smart phone) memory card.

TiVo also sells an OTA version of their Roamio box. It's an extra expense -- but I'm not sure if they make you pay a monthly fee for OTA or not -- but it's worth it. Tivo is a superior product that's worth paying for. It also has several apps so you shouldn't need a streaming box.

cable makes me angry every now and then. my cable bill keeps going up and i want to cancel but have no other way to watch my shows. i just moved and switched my cable to Brighthouse, i had WOW before. Brighthouse said its gonna be $147 a month, what usually happens is its the price they tell you for that month, the next month will be more. they increase the price since then. gets real annoying

For as low as $20 you can get a ton of "live" television channels.



$20 for Sling, $10 for Netflix, $10 for Hulu and you can pretty much watch anything.

Well with sling tv if you preorder 3 months worth you get a free roku......but I recently did a free trial of PlayStation vue and it was pretty good. We don't have cable either anymore due to increasing prices for stuff we don't even watch.

I hate my cable package since it's the basic one. I don't want digital cable since you have to lease the box and the remote control has so many buttons that if you press a wrong button you screw everything up.

I'm absolutely fed up with out current cable company. We had Verizon FiOS, which was kinda pricey, but worked fabulously and if there ever was a problem, it was fixed right away. Then Verizon sold it's Florida FiOS service to Frontier. Problems ever since.

The initial switch came right around the time our contract and discounts were expiring, so we contacted them to see about re-upping the same deal and same packages we already had. We were told that would be no problem at all, but we needed to switch from Verizon's coding to Frontiers, so boxes would need to be changed and whatnot. Were also told that we'd save a little money by agreeing to a two year term with their middle tier HD TV package. Were told that that middle tier TV package was the same channel lineup that we had, just called something different. Well, a week later, the technician shows up to change the boxes, which he does... He exchanges the boxes we had for the exact same model set top boxes. Also took two away because we decided to cancel the service to my bedroom and the guest bedroom as they almost never got used.

After the technician left, the TV started to go haywire and began freezing/stuttering all the time on every channel. Three days later, another technician had to come out to fix that because the first guy didn't install things correctly (something about the OTA not being switch like it should have). The we find out that the TV channel package that was supposed to be the same thing we had was actually missing about a dozen channels that we watch very frequently. Needless to say, we wasn't so happy about that. Several hours of an online chat session later, we finally got the right channel package at a discount (though will still be paying $10 more a month than we were).

Since then, we have pretty regular hiccups in the TV service where the boxes need to be reset a couple times before working right again.

And our home phone went down for almost a week too.

At this point, it's just not worth it anymore. We'll be moving soonish and once we do, we're done with this company. If we can't get a good deal with someone else (I think Brighthouse in our area), we'll just cut the cord all together and look into something like Sling, PS Vue, etc... The big thing is being able to watch our shows mostly on demand or with DVR because we're rarely able to when the air live and a lot of them end up being on at the same time.

Oh, and NHL games, but I think you can get those with an online streaming service they offer.

I hardly watch cable yet refuse to cancel it. I watch Apple TV more than anything.

I recently got a Fire TV stick and I love it. I've got Prime, Netflix (free, courtesy of my awesome cousin) and WWE Network. I'd love to be able to watch NJPW World on there as well. If only they would put out an actual app instead of that damn browser wrapper...
