Just keep in mind people we haven't seen Bryan Cranston as Zordon, Bill Hader as Alpha 5, the Rangers in action in their suits, or the ZORDS!
This is a teaser trailer.. a TEASER.

Wen haven't seen much yet. To be honest I'm glad they are making it different than the classic tv show. I personally can't wait to see the movie. Also can't wait to see Bryan Cranston as Zordon.

I'm keeping an open mind with this one even though I grew up n the original, I'm 30 now. No need to get torqued over a movie probably geared toward a younger audience. I'm ok with a different back story but it almost reminds me of Chronicle.i actually really liked that movie so I'm hoping with a splash of Power Rangers influence. Trailer wasn't that bad, the teenie bopper overtone should be expected with a movie about teenagers.

I was and still am a huge fan of the original show. This movie is not power rangers. Yes the name is Power Rangers but this is nothing like the show except for that.
The suits look like s***.
They're not suppose to be superhuman without the suits. The whole concept of the show was that they could overcome anything, with or without the powers. Now there's absolutely no point to morphing either as they are super human without them.
This is clearly a Christopher Nolan "the whole world is bleak" ripoff. The characters in the original show were role models for kids to look up to. They taught life lessons and it was an upbeat show for the most part. Yes it was cheesy and things were down for the team at times, but overall they kept the upbeat feeling of the show consistent throughout its run. This trailer shows it will be nothing like that. The kids will be treated as "social outcasts," as evident by Kim being made fun of and Jason's dad yelling at him.
This trailer gave me enough to decide to pass on it. Cool if others end up liking it but it's not the PRs I grew up with.

I though the trailer looked pretty good. My son who is 8 said it looked awesome. I really do not get people who say remakes and reboots are "crapting on their childhood" or something else to that effect. How does this have any kind of effect on you enjoying the version you grew up with? Stupid analogy, but here goes... Imagine as a kid you got to eat this cake all the time, it was white frosting with yellow cake and strawberry filling, on the top it said "Happy Birthday" and had two big flowers. It was awesome, you loved eating it. Then you grew up, kinda drifted off and haven't ate it for 20 years. Then you hear its available again and you think oh man when I was a kid I loved it, it was awesome let me go check it out. You go and check it out and its got white frosting and on top it says "Happy B-Day", and has three little flowers so it looks pretty close to what you remember. Hey we all grow up and change a bit, so OK, it looks pretty close to what you remember, you decide to take a piece and inside its just a straight up dry lasagna. That's exactly what these terrible reboots are like, they kinda capture the appearance, but nothing of the essence that you like, its just filler so it holds the appearance. This is what I said about it in a thread about overrated characters: After seeing the recent Power Rangers teaser trailer, they just made the list! I was 10 when the first series came out and I ate it up until the Green Ranger saga then even at that age I gave up after that. This new teaser makes it look like the new Ninja Turtles movies and it looks like it will have the same fate, a 5.9/6.1 movie on IMDB that tried to cash in on nostalgia and failed. I feel like people will jump on the bandwagon and then quietly get off again. I feel like its going to be average at its absolute best. And I'm aware of the first two movies from 1995 & 1997 and what complete dog s**t they were. Somethings just don't translate well into movies. That absolutely doesn't work in this scenario because the original stuff still exists and you can watch it. You can't buy that cake anymore.

I understand. Cake is delicious...but it's also a lie. Don't miss the forest for the trees brother. It absolutely does work because I wasn't talking about the TV show at all and watching it's repeats. It's for a new generation though, it's not really meant to please past ones. And that attitude is part of the problem with reboots. Why would you go out of your way to alienate the group that made the show popular enough to not only get two movies back when the show was originally on the air (ie. they haven't made any feature length movies of any of the other Ranger groups)...and ALSO popular enough to warrant being rebooted twenty years later?

They weren't chosen for their hearts, their determination, their spirit, or their inner essence...they simply stumbled on the power "coins" because they had a Breakfast Club-esque field trip and decided to do some vandalism while they were out. Meh. Yeah, the superhuman stuff LOOKS cool (and the kid getting knocked out trying to headbutt Billy was funny), but like you said...why even morph if you're already Superman without the suits on? Seems kind of silly to me. Feh. I'm also getting sick of the dark and bleak crap. Why the can't anything outside of a Disney movie be cheerful anymore for 's sake? But you know what offends me the most? That ing crapty ing cover of I Walk the Line. Don't cover Johnny's work if you're not going to do it well.

I grew up on the show and am a big fan of it to this day. Saying the show left an impression on me would be an understatement. The character Jason was one of my role models as a kid. Seeing that they're turning these characters into nothing more than delinquents hurts as I had a huge connection to them and kids today won't get the same connection that I did. I wanted to give the movie a chance but the trailer killed any enthusiasm I had for it.

Aren't they in possession of the medallions though when they show off the powers? That's what I took away. Like they were experimenting with the powers on accident because they didn't fully understand the power of the medallions at that point. So when they suit up they'll get the entire grasp of what they can do. Maybe they were chosen. Just because they meet in a Breakfast Club capacity, doesn't mean they don't all possess something special inside them. That wasn't something I could determine from the trailer. Plus, those powers aren't for fighting bullies in school. Those powers are for a much bigger fight. So maybe the kids were drawn together for a reason. I have no sentimental attachment to MMPR because I watched it briefly as a kid and moved on. This isn't an X-Men or Turtles movie for me. So I can understand getting frustrated with a reboot that doesn't meet your mind's expectation, but I do think this is exactly what they said it was going to be. It's a little bit too Twilight, and definitely a lot Chronicle, but I get starting young to setup a franchise. Doing a reboot or sequels for things that worked in the 80s and 90s is just difficult in 2016. We all have an expectation and it almost never meets those expectations. Look at Preacher. That show is honestly pretty good on AMC but it's nowhere near what I had hoped it would be as an adaption to one of the single greatest comic book runs of all time. I definitely agree that you can't capitalize on nostalgia and ignore that fanbase at the exact same time though. That's what Ghostbusters tried to claim and it was a ing disaster. Mad Max, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek, Casino Royale, hell even 21 Jumpstreet. We can get a fresh take on older properties and they can be good or great. I think Westworld is doing an amazing job so far even though the cult following for that 73 flick wasn't strong enough to create a ton of backlash if it sucked. I'm sure JJ's Star Trek pissed off a ton of Trekkies in 2009 but it was the first time in my entire life I thought Star Trek was cool. I think plenty of people were pissed about TFA and it managed to make $2 billion. So there stands a possibility this is a huge success and most of you hate it. Look at Suicide Squad and Transformers. It happens.

Having powers without the suit doesn`t go against the concept of Super Sentai/PR since SPD and Dino Thunder had rangers with powers outside the suits, the use of the suit changes from season to season, Power Rangers are more than just the Mighty Morphin season, is not like TMNT because there are MANY incarnations of the rangers and their mythos that have aired on tv, many grew up with Time Force, others with Zeo and others with Super Sentai. With the teaser and the photos I saw, these are still people in multi color suits using mechas that combine to fight monsters...that is Power Rangers.
Now the teenager feel should be expected, these are teenagers with attitude of the new era but it doesn`t mean they are criminals without redemption, at least it seems they are trying to give the rangers development and that is good.

It happens. That's true, they are in possession of the medallions when the superhuman scenes are shown (when Jason puts his hand over the medallion and makes the soda cans explode in the lunchroom for instance)...but that's where it differs from the original run. The Rangers always have their power coins as well, but they have no superhuman abilities when not morphed. I think part of my dislike also stems from the fact that they also seem to go from nothing to gods as soon as they hold the medallions. There was a progression of their skill throughout the run of the show as they became more confident and came out of their shells. This seems like BOOM! SUPERMANS! *shrug* Maybe they were chosen, sure. But that is going to be extraordinarily forced and hokey if Zordon comes out and says yeah, I mind ed people into bullying you all and making you juvenile delinquents so you would all have detention together and become friends and then hang out and then blow up a quarry and find these super powered medallions which will make you gods...and now...you're POWER RANGERS...YAAAAY! I do agree with what you said about reboots though. There are good ways to do it, and bad ways to do it. I'm still willing to give this movie a chance because it doesn't look AS bad as Ghostbusters did to me...but it still just doesn't feel right.

Having powers without the suit doesn`t go against the concept of Super Sentai/PR since SPD and Dino Thunder had rangers with powers outside the suits, the use of the suit changes from season to season, Power Rangers are more than just the Mighty Morphin season, That does not apply here though. This is Jason, Billy, Zack, Trini, and Kimberly. The Mighty Morphin' team. I would have preferred that if they were doing this reboot in this way...to just make five new characters.

A Mighty Morphin team that has powers and are not caricatures so I don`t see how it doesn`t apply, they said from the get go this was a reimagining, not a straight adaptation of that first season. In that teaser alone you see Rangers that are different to those in Mighty Morphin, they are just using the names as a homage, we haven`t even saw much of them to truly see how wrong or right they are portrayed. Jason was brave, Billy was smart, Kimberly was pretty, Trini was just there, Zack was funny, what else do they had in that first season as characters? With the powers and origin, it seems they are giving the film bits of everything Power Rangers.

I can't even put together a coherent response as to how bad I think this looks. If I were to try, I'd probably sound like a younger, thinner, Don Vito.

Do you remember the trailer for the fake Power Rangers movie that come out on April Fools Day a few years back? They should have made that into a movie.
