Soapy water will work great on those pesky cardboard pieces.

Lay em out on your front lawn, then turn on the water sprinklers. The dust will come right off.

Baby wipes. No alcohol and not overly dampened like most wipes. Will take the dust off without ruining or weakening the box.

Dust the box with a duster or a dry cloth. The figures (if they "mold") will have to stay dirty.

This. Dry microfiber rag. However, I can't believe this is a thread. What else would you use?

i use a Swifer and it works great The same. I have used them on older autographs so the marker would be as dry as can be and never had an issue. I have tons of MOC autographed and as soon as I get them signed, I put them in individual bins to keep in mint condition until I figure out how I'm going to display them all together behind some type of glass.
