I'm really looking forward to it . No idea what to expect but some really good talent involved, i include JR in that even though I'm not sure quite how he fits into it stylistically. None the less he makes it a bit more big time. Good to see British Wrestling getting a chance though. I expect I'll sticky this further down the line.

01/11/2016 Report;
Big queues for the tapings tonight, most people were rejected and offered tickets to other shows such as Jeremy Kyle.
ITV were handing out signs that said 'Go For The Win' and 'Winner'.
The actual amounts of seats inside the 'Arena' aka studio were little to none so not sure how the crowd noise is going to come across.
Show is a late start at around 9pm.
More details to follow shortly.

Hopefully they won't balls it up like other wrestling projects ITV have done like Celebrity Wrestling, decent concept but they just made it like Gladiators. Used to like going to the World of Sport style shows (World of Sport had long finished) in the south, I'm sure they still run but haven't been in years, I liked the concept of rounds rather than 1 pinfall and got to see some UK greats like Doug Williams, Robbie Brookside and before he made it to the WWE, Paul Burchill.

All the reports I've read are pretty positive ones. The show started. Looking forward to it. No rounds apparently, but plenty of cheese, which I fully expected with ITV.

A lot of people on Reddit said it sucked. The set looks odd too. I'm worried it will just be a ITV WWE clone.

I immediately thought of Celebrity Wrestling from 2005 and winced. I was 13 when that aired who loved anything that had someone from WWE on it and still thought that show was absolutely unbearable. But this actually looks pretty good! JR on commentary is all the incentive I need to watch.

Launch Date: Saturday 31st December 2016World of Sport Wrestling makes a historic and triumphant return to ITV for a one-off special, with an exciting mix of fast paced action and family fun for all. 30 years after the original ended, ITV brings together the UK’s top wrestling talent in a spectacular display of their sport; a showcase for the next generation of WOS Wrestling. This two hour special will see some of the finest pro wrestlers in the UK such as ‘Grado’, ‘Mastiff and ‘Viper’ compete in front of a live studio audience across seven rounds of fast-paced and intense bouts. At the end of the show only one fighter will take home the WOS Wrestling Championship belt. From singles to knockout rounds, tag team bouts and ladder matches where fighters must be the first to the top of a ladder and physically grab a contract to win, through to a seven-man elimination fight, each and every fighter is in it to win it. Hosting the highly anticipated television event and commentating as the action unfolds is world-renowned wrestling commentator Jim Ross, alongside professional British wrestler and commentator Alex Shane. Between rounds, the action moves backstage to hear from the wrestlers and get their reactions to the unfolding drama in the ring, be it triumph or anguish. They’ll also hear from WOS Wrestling’s general manager Mr Beesley. Reminding viewers of the history of WOS Wrestling, the one-off will also take a look back at the original World of Sport Wrestling, with archive footage and interviews with wrestling heroes of the past including “Rollerball” Rocco, Johnny Saint and Klondyke Kate. Speaking about the historic return of WOS Wrestling commentator Jim Ross said: “I’ve been blessed to have had a 40 year plus broadcast career, but can honestly say being part of ITV Studio’s production of World of Sport Wrestling has been a career highlight for me. The wrestling talent assembled is brilliant on all levels and they have succeeded in living their wrestling dream on this iconic brand. World of Sport Wrestling lives again!”

This is actually a legitimate huge platform but it's a shame it's going to be so stereotypical and largely targeted towards the standard family sitting in their living room together with their grandparents. I'm expecting a seriously staged and rehearsed event in a very small venue.

Isn't that the way to appeal to the mass audience though Dan? As unfortunate as it is, think about most of the people who watch the garbage on ITV.
The most we can hope for is that it's a success and that they start running house shows and filming more episodes of TV. The talent is there in Britain and I've got no problem with them becoming more mainstream.

I wish Challenge or ITV got British Wrestling. TNA did so well because it was free and on any tv box including Freeview. Imagine WCPW on TV or if WOS is good that could become a weekly show

Imagine WCPW on TV or if WOS is good that could become a weekly show The rumour is that WOS will become a weekly show. Tapings reportedly scheduled for February (I think). WCPW don't really need TV at this stage... ICW have a TV deal in Italy that does big numbers, they'd be the most likely to get TV over here I think.

I give it a month until ITv start dicking around with the air time, changing it to ITV 3 or 4 then eventually sticking it on at about 11 pm on Saturday night before cancelling it. I have zero faith that this is going to work out and it has nothing to do with the talent, but with ITV themselves.

Hi all, been a while.
Did anyone manage to get tickets to the taping of this? I've heard a few horror stories about 4 hour queues and the like. However, the shows were apparently pretty decent. Really good production values and some decent bouts.
I imagine it will be somewhat campy, aimed at kids, will have that reality TV vibe to it and will probably have a Brian Dixon feel to it, with solid performers and quality production.
Looking forward to seeing how it comes over on TV.

Don't think British Wrestling can ever shake off it being terribly cringey.

I enjoyed it. The controlled crowd was bad but action wise it was OK.
Good to hear JR again.

Brilliant show. Id happily buy a DVD/Blu-Ray of the show. Just good fun. How wrestling should be. None of the serious story line like WWE.

Just got round to watching it now. I thought it was excellent, shame about the crowd but hey ho we're not watching the crowd. Reports are saying a 1.25M viewing rating won't be enough to keep it however.

It was light hearted fun, exactly what was expected. I think they will revise what's happened, possibly return in spring but with celebrity attachment. Jeremy Kyle doing a lie detector test with Grado and Big Dave about whether any cheating occurred. H from steps is the interval entertainment, he hosts a raffle with Sue Pollard.
Ken Barlow as time keeper.
