From what I understand the game switches from being largely open-world to linear in the last 3rd of the game. When is the point of no return? I'm in chapter 8 right now and still enjoying doing "side" missions and bounty hunting and exploring. At what chapter/mission does all of that become unavailable and switch to all-story, all-the-time? Pretty much at the end of chapter 8 I think. Once you leave to Altissa it takes off fast. Thanks. Guess I'll explore while I can.

I've got a question for you guys; Anyony here play FF13?
I remember getting it, trying it out and hating it. However, I stumbled cross a YouTube video that convinced me to try it again. The reviewer compared FF15 or FF13 stating that the 30,000 polygonal textures were used per a character in FF13 while FF15 used 30,000 for the hair alone. He further said that SE could run FF15 on the PS4 with everything SE wanted to include in game (no specifics). So, SE cut story content in favor of graphical features. Sounds about right if you are trying to appeal to the western world.
Anyways, I still loved FF15, but going back to play FF13, I cannot believe I was so angry about the combat system that I decided FF13 was dumb. Playing for about 6 hours now and I am enjoying it. The characters are growing on me and the story line isn't too confusing (at least not yet). It might but worth the time going back and playing the FF13 series after finishing FF15.

But it wasn't because of the combat system. It was mostly because it was a very linear game, and the characters were almost all awful. ANd the story was really hard to follow and nonsensical even for a FF game. It is my least favorite game of the series.

I suppose every game is worth trying again to see if your feelings have changed, but I doubt I can get into FF XIII. I tried my best to get through the first 20-30 hours, since I kept hearing that it starts to pick up at that point, but I didn't care for the characters or the story. It was a gorgeous game, but couldn't keep my interest more than 30-45 minutes at a time before I was ready for a nap. I need to get another controller for my PS2 and give FF XII another shot, though. I can't remember why it was that I ultimately stopped playing it.

Isn't FF12 getting a re-release soon? I got it for Christmas on the PS2 when it came out, but never got deep into the game. Always regretted it, since I certainly didn't dislike what I did manage to play.

I should change this to a Square Enix thread because I played the demo of Nier: Automata and had no clue that this is a sequel to a PS3/Xbox360 game: Nier. To a 2010 title, second market value is holding up very well at about $40.
Lol, I feel like I've missed out on a lot of gems. I think I'm on the Nier: Automata bandwagon, but anyone else gave it a try, or played the first title?

Right, I'm just through Chapter 2 and took out the Deadeye hunt. I'm in love with this game, even if I hate Ignis and find Noc to be incredibly annoying.

I let Ignis get killed in a battle and didn't Phoenix him. Hate him. Ignis is the best. Plus has a few of the most useful tech skills.

I'm finally at the start of chapter 2. I'm slowly advancing, and just soaking in every side mission. My equipment is pretty weak, but I manage to scrap through some tougher fights.
I FINALLY got a glimpse of why Ignis has been bugging me to pack it in during the night. Early in Chapter 2, I left Hammerhead at night to head to the second rest area. As soon as I turned to drive down the road directly across from the rest stop, a bunch of those robots and an Iron Giant emerged. I somehow managed to kill all of them, but as soon as I tried to drive onward a Red Giant emerged. I ended up having to run all the way back to Hammerhead and calling it a night.
I'm surprised anyone hates Ignis. Noctis is the only one that has annoyed me. So far he seems like a combination of the worst parts of Cloud and Squall. Maybe he'll grow on me as I advance.

I pumped in about 7 hours into this game over the last day or so. It's so easy to get caught up in the side missions and exploring. I still need to really sit down and put time into fishing. I think Noctis is only at level 2 with that skill, and I haven't caught anything special yet.
I gotta say, I'm really bummed over the magic system so far. I don't really want any spoilers, but I'm assuming it doesn't evolve much beyond what it currently is. A quick browse over my trophies (they really throw those trophies out like candy at a parade early on btw) shows I'll eventually get summoning abilities at least.

Yeah, the magic/summoning aspect has been a let-down for me, too. The fluidity of the combat is fun and I like the different abilities and combos, but I do miss having actual mages with spells.
Finally moved the story a bit and am in Chapter 9. Altissia is beautiful, but trying to figure my way around is maddening. I guess I wouldn't like Venice too much.
