Van Dam has spoken with Sports Illustrated and in part of the interview Van Dam says WWE wanted him as a heel with Heyman. In a way it's a shame we didn't get this. I enjoyed RVD / ADR matches for the World title (Battleground 13 was an awesome hardcore match). But if he turned heel we would have got RVD / CM Punk matches which I'm imagine would have been incredible. Full Interview on SI: www.si.com/extra-mustard/2016/11/09/rob-van-dam-paul-heyman-interview

And this is why Cena will never turn heel, too many kids look up to him.

But Jeff's heel turn was awesome he cut that promo, his heel theme was great pretty sure Brother Nero is a tweener. Hey Weren't you Heel in ECW?
"Nah man, that was different, just go to my gym ask Sonya for a Free To-"

Hard to imagine how they could have done it. Even with the Invasion storyline, he shined through as favorite. Now it really could of worked well in ECW when they did the original WWF invasion when he would think he was above ECW. He can be a cocky dude but he backs it up.

I couldn't buy RVD as a heel in this day and age.

And this is why Cena will never turn heel, too many kids look up to him. Couldn't the same be said about Hogan in 96? If you really want to get someone like Roman over as a face or anyone for that matter you need a solid heel. Kids would hate Cena guts if he finally told them to piss off.

i loved rvd in the original ecw and wwe but he checked out a long time ago. a driven rvd could have certainly been an interesting heel.
i agree with him about hardy's heel turn as well. much like goldberg's in wcw - a form of character assassination.

WCW in 96 was a very different landscape from the WWF in 86. If Cena ever bottomed out (which probably won't happen just because he can take a year or two off and do a couple movies and then come back at a big show) then a heel turn could reinvigorate him just like it did for Hogan.

Oh look, another Brother Nero! Before he became an OBSOLETE MULE, Brother Nero was fantastic as Antichrist Hardy.
Heel RVD and Heyman could've been fun. Oh well.

He is 100% correct, especially about Jeff Hardy. Heres another thing, if kayfabe is dead as WWE say it is...then RVD is the last person in the world who would convince me he's a "bad guy".

I really think he missed the mark on this one. Turning heel and aligning with Paul could have added a fresh coat of paint to RVD's career. Would have been great IMO.
No doubt RVD is popular, but I don't think he's the inspirational hero that fans look up to type. Heel turn wouldn't hurt his legacy. As I said, I think it could have added to it immensely. And may have given him career direction instead of just showing up occasionally.

I enjoyed RVD's heel run in ECW circa 96/97 so I would of been all for a solid heel run in WWE. It's a shame it never happened.

I think a heel rvd with heyman would have been awesome as long as Paul didn't spend the whole time talking about brock

As much as I love RVD, this would've been cool to see, definitely would've freshened him up...

RVD being a heel in 1997 and 1998 worked. He was young then, he was cocky, arrogant, and really believed he was the "Whole F'n Show!"
RVD in in the last 6 years or so, is not the same guy as years earlier. He couldn't be taken seriously as a heel now. Plus fans just instantly love the guy. Even as a heel fans loved him.

I actually thought they were going to run with Heyman, I think it would of been awesome to see him return as a Heyman guy too. I think they just really misused him during his last run, should of had some ladder matches.

RVD wouldn't have been booed regardless.

I disagree with him on Jeff Hardy man Heel Hardy was the best thing! You gotta change things up and keep up with the current product, RVD needs to learn some things from Chris Jericho, cuz RVD has been the exact same guy since he started wrestling.

They would have ed it up anyway kind of like the Dudley Boys being heel earlier this year They would just have him come out bash ECW tease doing some cool spot every match then get beat every match til he fell all the way down to the lower mid card
