Just what the title says. Not sure how many will have an opinion on this but most people think Dusty wasn't used right when he came in during 1989. So how would you have booked him? A title run with either the world or IC belts? A match with Hogan?

I think Dusty was booked perfectly to be honest.
I think Dusty Rhodes took himself too seriously in the NWA, where as Vince made Dusty Rhodes exactly what he was meant to be... a comedy act.
Dusty had 3 big feuds in the WWE. Big Boss Man, Randy Savage and Ted DiBiase. That's good enough. He was way past his prime anyhow in that WWE run, so to me, he is lucky he got what he got then.

I kinda feel the same I think? Like you said he was past his prime so Im not sure the titles would have worked with him over what we got. The feuds he had were all quite intense for wwf which I also enjoyed. I think I might have down played the polka dot thing a bit and the plumber vignette was a little much for me but I think he made it work even though vince was playing with him

I think Dusty did pretty good in WWF......high profile feuds and wins. He was treated pretty good because he got over as hell.
I tell ya this....I found him entertaining as hell in WWF. I kept wondering where he was after late 1990.....obviously getting UT over was his sendoff.

I found his feud with Dibiase very enjoyable. Was a easy feud to buy into and was very personal. Sapphire betraying him at summerslam was very well done and when he chased Dibiases limo out of the spectrum he sold it perfectly. Then the angle with Dustin and Dibiase where he got busted open and dusty shielded him - he could get sympathy from anyone the way he played it.

It was the end feud with Savage, because Savage beat him on that show, and Ted and Virgil put the boots to Dustin, busting him own with that wooden chair. Dusty vs. Savage went from January - October. That is a long run! Its too bad the DiBiase feud didn't go longer, but it seemed they were using that to set up Virgil vs. DiBiase in 1991.

The Dusty/Dibiase feud was awesome. Definitely my favorite feud of his during his WWF run.

The Dusty/Dibiase feud was awesome. Definitely my favorite feud of his during his WWF run. I felt it didn't last long enough. The Survivor Series situation with them was more based around Undertaker making an impact in his debut, and the 5 minute mat classic we got at the end with Bret vs. DiBiase. Then the Royal Rumble match happened, but even going into that, they were already setting the story for Virgil vs. Ted for the 1991 year. Dusty showed up like a week later in WCW too for the Clash of the Champions card as commentator. So he wasted no time leaving the WWE and bringing Dustin with him to WCW.

Did we ever see Dusty V Undertaker in a singles match? I know the 2 quickly met in that survivor series 90' elimination match, but I mean a 1 on 1 singles match on something like a house show or an episode of prime time wrestling?
Damn shame Dusty left the company just as Taker had entered.

I actually think Dusty was booked pretty well, and however misguided the polka dots were, Dusty made it work. I was never a big fan of Dusty as an in-ring talent, but he impressed the hell out of me as a personality. He put everything into the polka dots, turned the crazy up to the next level, and made the seamless transition from NWA badass to wacked out WWF nut. He barely needed any push at all to break into the upper midcard, and stayed there quite comfortably throughout his entire tenure there.

They booked him just fine, but the stupid polka-dot things were the only "wrong doing."

I think he was booked fine. His run was short but very memorable. He was never gonna be the top guy because no one was gonna be the top guy with Hogan on the roster. He wasn't gonna be the 2nd guy because they were grooming Warrior for that. But he still had feuds with the top heels on the roster and seemed like he was having a blast the entire time. I don't mind the polka dots. It made him stand out and you now forever associate them with him.
