GATTACA:PROJECT Returning In 2017. |
In 2012, GATTACA:PROJECT folded after weeks of lingering uncertainty about its future. In 2017, GATTACA:PROJECT will return. “It fits with everything this promotion has always been about,” said GATTACA:PRO Founder Justin Tyger in a press conference on Saturday, announcing the return of his promotion. “We’ve always fought against destiny and fate, and stood for what if and fighting for your free will to decide your future. There were a lot of people in 2008 when we started as Pro Wrestling GEN that said we couldn’t do it, and it was our destiny to fail, and those people continued those thoughts in 2010 when we became GATTACA:PRO. Maybe we did fail in 2012 when he had to shut down, but we won’t let that rest as the fate of this company. We stumbled in our fight against what people claim our destiny to be, but we regrouped and we’re coming back stronger and better than ever, and there’s nothing that will break the spirit of everyone in this company.” “It’s been four years since we left off, and so much has changed since then. The whole landscape of wrestling in Japan is different. Companies have expanded, companies have receded, and others have disappeared. Just looking at the roster we had at the end, many have gone on to great success in other companies, others may have struggled to find a new home, and a number of GATTACA alumni have ended their careers and retired. We’re going to miss the ones that have retired, and we’re going to miss the ones that have continued their careers elsewhere, but we here in GATTACA have built an amazing roster of guys for our return. Some are new to GATTACA, some are returning, and some have even been with us through all three iterations of this company. It’s amazing to see the commitment from these men to see this promotion to succeed along with their careers.” Tyger announced that GATTACA:PRO will make its return in the first week of January 2017, marking the start of a month long “Project: New Beginnings” tour. Tyger commented that every month with feature its own tour, beginning the first week of the month at Hakata Star Lanes, and ending the last week at Korakuen Hall. Both the opening and final nights of the tour will air on Samurai! TV, while events throughout the month will stream live on NicoNico. When asked about the Championship situation, with GATTACA:PRO’s Heavyweight and Tag Team Championships having been unified with Twin Cities Wrestling’s Titles following the closure of the promotion, Tyger confirmed those titles will be brought back to the promotion. “Unfortunately while we were gone, TCW also saw its end,” said Tyger, “We have made a deal with Mike Bockwinkel to transfer the Championships here for our return. Our Heavyweight Championship will now be referred to as the Triple Crown Championship, made up of the Pro Wrestling GEN, GATTACA:PRO, and TCW Heavyweight Titles, and our Tag Team Championships will become the Unified Openweight Tag Team Championship, and will now be made up of the GATTACA and TCW Tag Team Titles, while the Unified Junior Heavyweight Championship, made up of the GEN and GATTACA Titles, will remain as it was.” Tyger also announced that the Championships have been vacated ahead of the return, with new Champions being decided at varying times. He took the opportunity to announce that the first Triple Crown Champion of the new beginning will be decided in March with the return of the yearly Performance Quest single elimination tournament. The annual INFINITE Junior, Team Quest, and IDEOLOGY round robin tournaments will also return, under the new names of INFINITE Grand Prix, UNITY Grand Prix, and FREE WILL Grand Prix, and will be held in May, July, and September respectively. The traditional super show HALO, dating back to Pro Wrestling GEN, will finally see its seventh edition with HALO VII in November at Ryogoku Kokugikan, and will remain the event where the winner of the FREE WILL Grand Prix will challenge whomever the Triple Crown Champion may be. The roster for the return of GATTACA:PRO will be announced throughout the duration of the year, leading into the new year, and into the new beginning of GATTACA:PROJECT.

Though he performed as a junior heavyweight while in GATTACA, since the closure he has graduated to heavyweight and exceeded all expectations placed on him, and has scemented himself as a star singles wrestler. Like his partner Miyahara, following the closure of GATTACA he graduated to the heavyweight class. Daisuke Sekimoto was unarguably the ace of GATTACA during it's initial run. He was the first man to win the FREE WILL Grand Prix and went on to be the longest Unified Heavyweight Champion with a record 9 defenses of the title. Though his title as ace was under threat by Shuhei Taniguchi near the hiatus of the promotion, he looks to remind everyone of his position with the return of GATTACA. He is the leader of the Strong BJ stable.
| 岡林 裕二Yuji Okabayashi | From: Nankoku, Kochi, Japan Height: 5'10" Weight: 271 lbs. Born: October 31, 1982 (age 34) Debut: June 27, 2008 Finisher: Vertical Spike (Brainbuster) Achievements: Golem Splash (Diving Splash)

Tsuyoshi Kikuchi was once a respected junior heavyweight, teaming and squaring off against his peers throughout the legendary 90's in All Japan. Now? Well, years of headbutting everything that moved sent him into madness in his older age. He may seem like a loveable, crazy old man most of the time, but don't let him fool you, he has an itchy trigger finger on the switch in his mind that will send him on a rampage, and will make you regret crossing his path. He will be the leader of a new team we will see with the return, Eien-gun, Japanese for "Forever Army", a name that signals the three older wrestlers are no where close to slowing down their careers.

Masao Inoue is a veteran of 25 years in pro wrestling, and while he has occasionally shown flashes of breaking through throughout his career, he's spent most of it on the outside looking in when it comes to the main event scene. This has yet to discourage Inoue though, who is still fighting for his chance to be a champion someday, and hopes to do so at his new home in GATTACA, where he will sign on full time after making sporadic appearances previously.
| 高岩 竜一Tatsuhito Takaiwa | From: Kyoto, Kyoto, Japan Height: 5'10" Weight: 214 lbs. Born: July 5, 1972 (age 44) Debut: July 21, 1992 Finisher: Death Valley Driver Achievements:

They have also achieved solo notoriety in their careers, both winning Heavyweight Championships in different companies. Gōman マイク・ボックウィンケル レッド・ドラゴンMike Bockwinkel Red Dragon | From: Hollywood, California, USA Height: 6’0” Weight: 218 lbs. Born: July 20, 1986 (age 30) Debut: April 1, 2005 Finisher: Red Dragon Driver (Death Valley Driver) Achievements: |
Mike Bockwinkel and Red Dragon originally met in Bockwinkel's family owned promotion, Twin Cities Wrestling, who maintained a working agreement with GATTACA and's Heavyweight and Tag Team Championships are represented in the Triple Crown Championship and the Unified Openweight Tag Team Championship. The two's careers in GATTACA began separately, with Bockwinkel setting his sights on long time rival Justin Tyger and Red Dragon surprising everyone in the 2011 INFINITE Grand Prix by winning his block. Though he failed to advance in the semi-finals, his egotistical and brash demeanor throughout the tournament caught the eyes of not only rivals and fans, but of Bockwinkel himself, as the two began tagging together until the end of GATTACA cut off their team. The two will sign on full time with GATTACA for the return, appearing through TCW previously, and look to further their success as a team, a team that will be called Gōman, Japanese for "Arrogance", a display of their similar attitudes.

Kakuto Tantei-dan フジタ "Jr" ハヤト 土方 隆司 Fujita Jr. Hayato Ryuji Hijikata | From: Adachi, Tokyo, Japan Height: 5’9” Weight: 172 lbs. Born: May 17, 1978 (age 38) Debut: February 7, 1998 Finisher: Fisherman Buster Achievements: 1x Unified Junior Heavyweight Champion, 2010 INFINITE Grand Prix |
Fujita Jr. Hayato and Ryuji Hijikata will be forming what can only be called a super team with the return of GATTACA. Hayato was the first ever Unified Junior Heavyweight Champion, and interestingly enough, lost that championship to Hijikata, coming off the heels of winning the first INFINITE Grand Prix tournament. The two are tied as the longest reigning champion, both reaching 7 successful defenses before losing the title. Rather that battling each other, the two have opted to band together in an effort to become the longest reigning Unified Openweight Tag Team Champions to match their solo efforts. Their team will be referred to as Kakuto Tantei-dan, Japanese for "Fighting Detectives", an homage to their former employer BattlARTS.

GATTACA Return Series: “BURN” Shuhei Taniguchi, Justin Tyger, Joe Doering vs. “Strong BJ” Daisuke Sekimoto, Yuji Okabayashi, Kazuki Hashimoto - While the “PROJECT: New Beginnings” tour will have more of a supercard feel to them as GATTACA reintroduces itself back to wrestling, it won’t take long for GATTACA to get back to business. February and March’s tours will both see tournaments to crown new Champions, as all of the titles have been vacated. - February will feature a one-time, single elimination tournament that has been titled “Team Quest” that will feature 16 teams battling to become the first Unified Openweight Tag Team Champions with GATTACA. Tyger didn’t announce the teams, saying they will be announced prior to the tour next month, but did state it will be comprised of 25 GATTACA representatives and 7 outsider representatives. - March will see the return of the “Performance Quest”, a single elimination tournament that was meant to be an annual tradition to determine a new number one contender for the Unified Heavyweight Championship, but only saw one edition before GATTACA closed, that was won by Satoshi Kojima. The second edition will finally take place, but with higher stakes, as the winner will be crowned the first Triple Crown Champion with GATTACA. Tyger again didn’t announce the participants, but confirmed there will be 16 wrestlers, 14 GATTACA representatives and 2 outsiders. - Tyger also announced that GATTACA has formed working agreements with All Japan Pro Wrestling, Big Japan Pro Wrestling, and Zero1 for their wrestlers to be featured on upcoming GATTACA shows. - Tyger thanked the wrestlers and the fans for making the return of GATTACA:PRO possible, and stated he hopes to not let anyone down with the promotion like he did last time, and hopes that the fans enjoy every tour and every show that they put on.

Takuya Nomura Debut Match: “Kakuto Tantei-dan” Fujita Jr. Hayato and Ryuji Hijikata defeated Kazuki Hashimoto and Takuya Nomura when Hijikata used a Fisherman Buster on Nomura 3. Masayuki Kono defeated Tatsuhito Takaiwa with a Giant Knee Drop 4. Yuma Aoyagi & Daichi Hashimoto Debut Match: “NEXTREAM” Kento Miyahara, Katsuhiko Nakajima, Yuma Aoyagi defeated “Strong BJ” Daisuke Sekimoto, Yuji Okabayashi, Daichi Hashimoto when Miyahara used a Break Heart on Hashimoto 5. GATTACA Return Series: “LAUGHTER7” Katsuyori Shibata, Koji Kanemoto, Minoru Tanaka defeated “BURN” Shuhei Taniguchi, Atsushi Aoki, Hikaru Sato when Kanemoto used a Tiger Suplex Hold on Sato - Mike Bockwinkel and Red Dragon welcomed the crowd back to GATTACA with a good win over the veteran team of Tsuyoshi Kikuchi and Masao Inoue. Kikuchi in particular didn’t take well with the disrespect the opposing team showed them, going mad after Red Dragon shoved his middle fingers in his face. While the two traded blows on the floor, Bockwinkel got the edge over Inoue, hitting a Bockwinkel Special to win the match. Kikuchi continued attacking Red Dragon after the match until his partner and their team’s seconds pulled him away, Red Dragon still antagonizing him as they drug him to the back. - Takuya Nomura made his debut with GATTACA, teaming with Kazuki Hashimoto to take on Fujita Jr. Hayato and Ryuji Hijikata. Nomura and Hashimoto brought it to the duo, never backing down against the two most dominate juniors in GATTACA history. In the end, it wasn’t enough to combat the two, as Hijikata pinned Nomura with a Fisherman Buster. After the match, the four men met in the middle of the ring and shook hands, the veterans showing their admiration for the younger team’s fight. - Tatsuhito Takaiwa squared off with Masayuki Kono in a singles match where he had a definite size disadvantage. Takaiwa battled hard against the heavyweight, but Kono’s size and strength began to become more of a factor as the match went on, with him finishing Takaiwa off with a Giant Knee Drop. - Yuma Aoyagi and Daichi Hashimoto made their debuts with GATTACA in this special six man tag that pitted members of the NEXTREAM stable of Aoyagi, Kento Miyahara, and Katsuhiko Nakajima against members of the Strong BJ team of Hashimoto, Daisuke Sekimoto, and Yuji Okabayashi. Aoyagi and Hashimoto’s debut took a back seat in the story of the match, as Miyahara and Nakajima trading shots with Sekimoto and Okabayashi was the highlight as all four men looked to position themselves with a positive start as we head towards both the Team Quest and Performance Quest. Miyahara scored one for his team and himself with a pinfall victory over Hashimoto. After the match, all six men traded handshakes, with the a fore mentioned four lingering theirs for a few tense moments, the championships on all of their minds. - In an emotional moment, Joe Doering made his return to the ring following his fight against a stage 3 brain tumor, teaming with his tag partner of 8 years Justin Tyger against the Twin Tower team of Kohei Sato and the debuting Shuji Ishikawa. All four men traded stiff shots throughout this entire hard fought battle, going back and forth with no clear advantage for either team, until Tyger slid in and cracked Sato with a Western Lariat, feeding him to Doering who put him down with a Revolution Bomb to win the match. After the match, the four men traded handshakes before two women entered the ring and presented Doering with flowers for his return victory. Tyger raised Doering’s arm before leaving him alone in the ring to celebrate his victory. - In a wild GATTACA Return Series main event, BURN members Shuhei Taniguchi, Atsushi Aoki, and Hikaru Sato went to battle with LAUGHTER7 members Katsuyori Shibata, Koji Kanemoto, and Minoru Tanaka. Taniguchi and Shibata zeroed in on each other with the Triple Crown Championship in the back of their minds, Taniguchi looking to regain his position of champion he never lost and Shibata looking to finally win gold in GATTACA. Meanwhile, the four juniors in the match also looked to gain an advantage over the opposing team, with Aoki and Sato looking to earn their way back to their championship lineages, while Kanemoto and Tanaka looked to prove to the younger wrestlers that their age equaled experience in the title fight. The match broke down into a brawl, as Taniguchi and Shibata spilled out to the floor and intensely brawled around the ring as Kanemoto and Sato traded shots in the ring, with Kanemoto slipping behind Sato and nailing him with a Tiger Suplex Hold to score a major victory over the last Unified Junior Heavyweight Champion. After the match the melee continued, with Shibata shoving Taniguchi’s face into the ring post, causing blood to begin streaming down his face. The two ended up back in the ring, grabbing each other by their throats and screaming at each other, Shibata claiming it’s his time to become champion, while Taniguchi declared that he never lost the Unified Heavyweight Championship in GATTACA and he will continue his reign with the Triple Crown Championship. The two continued to stare off and yell at each other, until Taniguchi used his free arm to elbow Shibata’s arm, loosening his grip enough for Taniguchi to hit him with a Chokeslam. Taniguchi stared down at Shibata as blood dripped off his face, before he left Shibata lying in the ring.

GATTACA:PRO Presents “PROJECT: New Beginnings Night 2” 1/13/17 (NicoNico Live) Shin-Kiba 1stRING 1. Minoru Tanaka and Atsushi Aoki defeated “Gōman” Mike Bockwinkel and Red Dragon when Tanaka used a HEAT Clutch on Dragon 2. Justin Tyger defeated Masao Inoue with a Northern Lights Bomb 3. “BURN” Shuhei Taniguchi, Joe Doering, Hikaru Sato defeated Tsuyoshi Kikuchi, Fujita Jr. Hayato, Ryuji Hijikata when Taniguchi used a Shuhei Bomb on Kikuchi 4. Shuji Ishikawa, Kohei Sato, Tatsuhito Takaiwa defeated “LAUGHTER7” Katsuyori Shibata, Masayuki Kono, Koji Kanemoto when Sato used a German Suplex Hold on Kono 5. “NEXTREAM” Katsuhiko Nakajima and Yuma Aoyagi defeated “Strong BJ” Yuji Okabayashi and Kazuki Hashimoto when Nakajima used a Vertical Spike on Hashimoto 6. GATTACA Return Series: “Strong BJ” Daisuke Sekimoto and Daichi Hashimoto defeated “NEXTREAM” Kento Miyahara and Takuya Nomura when Sekimoto used a Deadlift German Suplex Hold on Nomura - Mike Bockwinkel and Red Dragon looked to score another win against the team of Minoru Tanaka and Atsushi Aoki. The two put up a good fight against the veteran junior heavyweights, but Dragon’s cockiness came back to bite the team when Dragon took his eye off of Tanaka, who took advantage by grabbing Dragon and locking him in the HEAT Clutch, forcing Dragon to tap out. After the match, Dragon was outraged by the loss, getting in Tanaka’s face and screaming, but Tanaka smirked and pulled a play out of Dragon’s own playbook, shoving his middle finger in Dragon’s face before he and Aoki left the ring, leaving Dragon even angrier. - In a singles match between two very familiar competitors, Justin Tyger squared off against Masao Inoue. The two made their wrestling debuts in All Japan within a year and a half of each other and have spent the last 24 years wrestling against and teaming with each other in All Japan, NOAH, and now GATTACA. Tyger would come out on top of this confrontation after a back and forth match, when he caught Inoue with a Rolling Sobat Kick and a Western Lariat before ending the match with a Northern Lights Bomb. After the match, Tyger helped Inoue back to his feet before the two shook hands. - Tsuyoshi Kikuchi banded together with Fujita Jr. Hayato and Ryuji Hijikata to take on the BURN teaming of Shuhei Taniguchi, Joe Doering, and Hikaru Sato. The three former Unified Junior Heavyweight Champions went back and forth between each other, but Hayato and Hijikata’s size disadvantage became an issue when Taniguchi and Doering were tagged in. Kikuchi came in and looked to bring the match home for his team against the two, but soon fell to Taniguchi when Taniguchi hit him with a Shuhei Bomb. Following the match, Taniguchi and Doering shook all three of the opposing team’s hands, while their partner Sato stared off with both Hayato and Hijikata as the Unified Junior Heavyweight Championship floated through their minds. - Shuji Ishikawa and Kohei Sato looked to recover from their loss last week as they teamed with Tatsuhito Takaiwa to battle the LAUGHTER7 team of Katsuyori Shibata, Masayuki Kono, and Koji Kanemoto. Kanemoto and Takaiwa resparked their old rivalry in the early stages of the match with stiff exchanges of kicks and punches, but it was just an appetizer for what was to come in the match, which fell into brutal fight when the heavyweights entered the match. Ishikawa and Sato went back and forth with Shibata and Kono, none of the men backing down from the heavy strikes they were receiving. Sato would put his team in the winning column when he dropped Kono with a German Suplex Hold to secure the victory. After the match, LAUGHTER7 gathered themselves and quickly blew off their opponents as they left them in the ring without acknowledging them. - In the first of two NEXTREAM vs. Strong BJ tag matches, Katsuhiko Nakajima and Yuma Aoyagi, representing NEXTREAM went against the Strong BJ team of Yuji Okabayashi and Kazuki Hashimoto. The young Aoyagi put up a valiant fight against his more experienced opponents, but couldn’t make any headway against the two. He tagged in Nakajima, who began to build momentum for his team before he was able to score the victory for his team as he nailed Hashimoto with a Vertical Spike. The two teams exchanged handshakes after the match. - The main event, another in the GATTACA Return Series, saw Kento Miyahara and Takuya Nomura, representing NEXTREAM, went to battle against the Strong BJ team of Daisuke Sekimoto and Daichi Hashimoto. The match went back and forth as Miyahara and Sekimoto looked to position themselves positively heading towards the Performance Quest while Nomura and Hashimoto attempted to prove which young wrestler was the better of the two. Sekimoto put an end to the show when he cracked Nomura with an elbow before he grabbed him and landed a hard Deadlift German Suplex Hold to score the win. After the match, Miyahara and Sekimoto faced off with each other, the two making it clear that Sekimoto is looking to continue his position as the ace of GATTACA, while Miyahara looks to dethrone him in the Performance Quest. Nevertheless, the two showed respect for each other when they shook hands after the tense moments.

GATTACA:PRO Presents “PROJECT: New Beginnings Night 3” 1/20/17 (NicoNico Live) Tokyo Dome Hotel Sapporo Peer Ridge Hall 1. Fujita Jr. Hayato defeated Masao Inoue with a Helm 2. “BURN” Atsushi Aoki and Hikaru Sato defeated “Eien-gun” Tsuyoshi Kikuchi and Tatsuhito Takaiwa when Sato used a Cross Armbar on Kikuchi 3. “Twin Towers” Shuji Ishikawa and Kohei Sato defeated “Gōman” Mike Bockwinkel and Red Dragon when Sato used a German Suplex Hold on Dragon 4. Katsuyori Shibata, Masayuki Kono, Ryuji Hijikata defeated Daisuke Sekimoto, Yuji Okabayashi, Takuya Nomura when Kono used a Giant Knee Drop on Nomura 5. “BURN” Shuhei Taniguchi, Justin Tyger, Joe Doering defeated “NEXTREAM” Kento Miyahara, Katsuhiko Nakajima, Yuma Aoyagi when Taniguchi used a Shuhei Bomb on Aoyagi 6. GATTACA Return Series: “Junior Stars” Koji Kanemoto and Minoru Tanaka defeated “Team Yamato” Daichi Hashimoto and Kazuki Hashimoto when Kanemoto used a Tiger Suplex Hold on Kazuki - Fujita Jr. Hayato had a battle ahead of him against the larger, more experienced Masao Inoue. Those traits got Inoue the advantage early, but Hayato was able to use his speed and strikes to take him down, soon ending the match with a Helm to take the victory. - In a battle of separate generations, veteran Junior Heavyweights Tsuyoshi Kikuchi and Tatsuhito Takaiwa looked to remind everyone of their past successes against former Unified Junior Heavyweight Champions Atsushi Aoki and Hikaru Sato. The two teams went back and forth throughout the match, but Aoki and Sato were able to pull the advantage their way and seal the victory when Sato locked Kikuchi in a Cross Armbar, forcing Kikuchi to tap out. After the match, the teams showed respect for each other by exchanging handshakes. - Mike Bockwinkel and Red Dragon wanted to get back on track following their loss last week, but their opponents, Shuji Ishikawa and Kohei Sato, had everything but that on their minds. Bockwinkel and Dragon would occasionally begin to mount offense, but got shut down every time by the much larger and much stronger Twin Towers team, who would dominate most of the match before Sato put Dragon down with a German Suplex Hold. After the match, Ishikawa and Sato stood victorious as Bockwinkel and Dragon boiled with anger as they stormed to the back. - LAUGHTER7 members Katsuyori Shibata and Masayuki Kono found a partner tonight in Ryuji Hijikata, as the trio squared off with Strong BJ members Daisuke Sekimoto and Yuji Okabayashi, teaming with Takuya Nomura. The main focus of the match was the stiff exchanges between Shibata and Kono against Sekimoto and Okabayashi, as all four have setting their team and themselves up for the Team Quest and Performance Quest. Shibata and Sekimoto began brawling outside of the ring, Hijikata and Okabayashi joining them in the fight, as Kono and Nomura traded shots in the ring. Nomura began to build momentum against the larger Kono, but was caught with a Running Knee Strike that was the beginning of the end for him, as Kono would climb to the top rope and drop a Giant Knee Drop on him to score the victory. After the match, Shibata and Sekimoto continued to fight around the ring until their teammates and seconds pulled them apart. Shibata shoved and kicked the seconds to the ground as he left the ringside area. - The BURN trio of Shuhei Taniguchi, Justin Tyger, and Joe Doering went up against NEXTREAM teammates Kento Miyahara, Katsuhiko Nakajima, and Yuma Aoyagi in another match that felt the importance of the upcoming Team and Performance Quests. Tyger and Doering had their eyes on Miyahara and Nakajima with their focus on the Team Quest, while Taniguchi had all three in his sights as he continues to prepare himself for the Performance Quest. Tyger and Doering pulled Miyahara and Nakajima to the floor, leaving Aoyagi alone with Taniguchi, who quickly nailed Aoyagi with several strikes, before sending him to the mat with a Shuhei Bomb before making the cover for the win. After the match, the six men met in the middle of the ring, with the NEXTREAM team trading handshakes with Tyger and Doering, but not Taniguchi, who simply raised his arms in victory and left the ring. - The main event, a GATTACA Return Series match, saw a great tag match that pitted the veteran Junior Stars team of Koji Kanemoto and Minoru Tanaka against the young Team Yamato of Daichi Hashimoto and Kazuki Hashimoto. The two Hashimotos met their opponents in the center of the ring, with a noticeable arrogance in their step. Kanemoto and Minoru smirked, almost surprised by the young team’s attitude. Kazuki shoved his middle finger in Kanemoto’s face, as Daichi slapped Minoru in his. This sparked a wild back and forth slug fest between the four, breaking down into an all-out brawl around ringside. Kanemoto and Kazuki eventually made their way back into the ring, trading punches and kicks until Kanemoto cracked Kazuki with a huge head kick that send him crumpling to the mat. Kanemoto picked Kazuki up by the arms and send him back down with a Tiger Suplex Hold to win the match. After the match, Kanemoto and Minoru stood victorious as Daichi helped Kazuki on his feet. The four stared off for a moment, before Kazuki once again stuck his middle finger in Kanemoto’s face. Kanemoto laughed, smacking away Kazuki’s hand before returning the favor as the Hashimotos left the ring.

Teams For Team Quest Tournament Announced! |
Next month marks the start of the Team Quest tournament to crown the first Unified Openweight Tag Team Champions in GATTACA. As we head into the final show of the PROJECT: New Beginnings tour, the 16 teams that will compete in Team Quest have been announced. Next month's tour, PROJECT: Team Quest, will begin on February 3rd and end on February 24th, where the new champions will be crowned. This tour will mark the restarting of GATTACA's working agreements with All Japan and ZERO1, as well as the beginning of their new working agreement with Big Japan. In a surprising note, Shuhei Taniguchi has opted to not enter into the tournament, as he looks to fully focus himself on becoming champion again in the Performance Quest. Here's the teams that were announced, as well as profiles for the 7 outsiders that will be participating: Tatsuhito Takaiwa and Shinjiro Otani (ZERO1) - Shinjiro Otani is a legendary Junior Heavyweight, winning Junior Titles for New Japan, WCW, and ZERO1, where he is the acting president. He and Takaiwa began teaming 23 years ago, and have won Tag Team Championships in New Japan, ZERO1, and WAR. The two look to continue their long standing success as a team in the Team Quest. “Big Guns”Zeus (AJPW) and The Bodyguard (FREE) - Zeus and The Bodyguard have been teaming for just 6 years now, and have became one of the best teams in Japan over the past 2 years, winning the All Japan World Tag Team Titles twice. Known for their strong, hard hitting style, the duo look to add the Unified Openweight Tag Team Championships to their rapidly growing resumes. “Hamakami”Hideyoshi Kamitani (BJW) and Ryota Hama (BJW) - Hideyoshi Kamitani, weighing in at 227 pounds, and Ryota Hama, weighing in at 451 pounds, are proof that opposites attract. The two began teaming in 2015 and made a name for their team as the Big Japan Tag Team Champions for the first part of 2016. The stark contrast between the two's styles play to their advantage, with Kamitani focusing on a hard hitting style while Hama uses his massive weight for his attacks, proving difficult for their opponents to prepare for. Jake Lee (AJPW) and Naoya Nomura (AJPW) - Jake Lee and Naoya Nomura are fairly young in their wrestling careers, with Lee 5 years into his career and Nomura 2 years in, but the two have been steadily improving and rising up within All Japan. The two started teaming last year, having found marginal success. They hope to use the Team Quest as a platform to break out as a team.

GATTACA:PRO Presents “PROJECT: New Beginnings Final Night” 1/27/17 (Samurai! TV) Korakuen Hall 1. “Gōman” Mike Bockwinkel and Red Dragon defeated Tatsuhito Takaiwa and Kazuki Hashimoto when Dragon used a Red Dragon Driver on Takaiwa 2. “Twin Towers” Shuji Ishikawa and Kohei Sato defeated “Eien-gun” Tsuyoshi Kikuchi and Masao Inoue when Ishikawa used a Splash Mountain on Inoue 3. “BURN” Atsushi Aoki and Hikaru Sato defeated “NEXTREAM” Yuma Aoyagi and Takuya Nomura when Aoki used an Assault Point on Nomura 4. Special Tag Match: “Kakuto Tantei-dan” Fujita Jr. Hayato and Ryuji Hijikata defeated “Junior Stars” Koji Kanemoto and Minoru Tanaka when Hayato used a Helm on Tanaka 5. Team Quest Preview Match: “NEXTREAM” Kento Miyahara and Katsuhiko Nakajima vs. “LAUGHTER7” Katsuyori Shibata and Masayuki Kono went to a Double Count Out 6. GATTACA Return Series: “Strong BJ” Daisuke Sekimoto, Yuji Okabayashi, Daichi Hashimoto defeated “BURN” Shuhei Taniguchi, Justin Tyger, Joe Doering when Okabayashi used a Golem Splash on Tyger - Mike Bockwinkel and Red Dragon looked to get back on track before the end of the tour after losing their last two matches, going up against the team of Tatsuhito Takaiwa and Kazuki Hashimoto. The majority of the match saw Dragon and Hashimoto trading stiff shots, but neither of the two could get an advantage over the other. The match came to a head when Dragon and Takaiwa, who both use the Death Valley Driver as their finishing maneuver, began attempting the move on each other, but the two came to a stalemate as they would continually counter the other’s attempt. Bockwinkel ran in from the corner and nailed Takaiwa with a Superkick before going after Kazuki, which gave Dragon the chance to hit his Red Dragon Driver and score the victory. - The Twin Towers team of Shuji Ishikawa and Kohei Sato had the obvious age, size, and strength advantage against their opponents tonight, Tsuyoshi Kikuchi and Masao Inoue. Typically, the opposing team would attempt to try their hardest to find some crack in the armor and potentially get a victory, but not in this match. Kikuchi and Inoue spent the entire match terrified of their opponents, running away, tagging each other end and out, and hiding behind the referee. Ishikawa and Sato laughed at the pair throughout the match, that is until Ishikawa cracked Inoue with a huge Lariat, before sending him to the ground with a Splash Mountain to mercifully end the affair. - The rookies Yuma Aoyagi and Takuya Nomura looked to prove themselves tonight against the veteran team of former Unified Junior Heavyweight Champions Atsushi Aoki and Hikaru Sato. The pair impressed early on in the match, as were able to take down Aoki and Sato and land heavy strikes, but eventually the experience of their opponents caught up with them. Nomura fired up and engaged in a striking exchange with Aoki, until Aoki caught a kick from Nomura, positioned him to hit an Assault Point, and win the match. After the match, Aoki and Sato helped their young opponents to their feet and shook their hands, showing their respect for Aoyagi and Nomura’s challenge. - The legendary Junior Heavyweight tag team of Koji Kanemoto and Minoru Tanaka collided with the two best Junior Heavyweights so far in GATTACA’s history, Fujita Jr. Hayato and Ryuji Hijikata. The two teams went back and forth, Hayato and Hijikata showing no respect for the legends that they were fighting, an action Kanemoto and Tanaka showed no problem with reciprocating. Near the end, Hayato and Hijikata stood toe to toe with Tanaka and Kanemoto, exchanging kicks until Hijikata caught Kanemoto hard in the chest, which sent him stumbling out of the ring. Hijikata took the opportunity to bounce off the ropes, kicking Tanaka in the back of the leg and sending him down to the mat as he ran through the ropes and dived out onto Kanemoto. Hayato charged Tanaka, nailing him with a Helm to pick up the victory. After the match, Kanemoto rolled into the ring to help his partner. He kept his glare affixed to Hijikata and Hayato, the latter of whom pointed a middle finger in his direction as they left the ring. - The next confrontation was an all-out war, as Katsuyori Shibata and Masayuki Kono exploded with Kento Miyahara and Katsuhiko Nakajima. From the moment the bell sounded, the two teams mauled each other, throwing huge strikes and kicks at every chance. After several minutes, the brawl spilled out onto the floor, where Shibata and Nakajima fought up the bleachers as Kono and Miyahara sent each other flying into the ringside chairs and the walls of Korakuen Hall. The referee reached a 20 count and was forced to declare the match a Double Count Out, but this didn’t end the warfare. Shibata quickly grabbed a hold of Nakajima, cracking him with a stiff headbutt that sent him tumbling down the stairs as Miyahara whipped Kono head first into a wall. Miyahara and Shibata's eyes found one another, causing the two to charge. They met in the middle and began exchanging elbows until referees and young boys ran out and separated the two, dragging them to opposite corners of the arena. - In the final match of the GATTACA Return Series, Strong BJ and BURN did battle as Daisuke Sekimoto, Yuji Okabayashi, and Daichi Hashimoto squared off with Shuhei Taniguchi, Justin Tyger, and Joe Doering. There was a clear sense of urgency between Sekimoto, Okabayashi, Tyger, and Doering as the Team Quest to determine new Unified Openweight Tag Team Champions looms. The two teams targeted in on each other as both looked to head into the tournament with the advantage. In the end, it was Strong BJ that proved they will walk into the Quest with their heads held high. As Taniguchi and Daichi fought on the floor, Okabayashi hit a Lariat on Doering that sent him rolling out of the ring as Sekimoto heaved Tyger up with a Deadlift German Suplex, leaving him in the perfect position for Okabayashi to climb to the top rope and land a Golem Splash for the victory. After the match, Doering began throwing chairs around ringside, frustrated with the lost at a key time. As Strong BJ celebrated, Tyger shook off the cobwebs and climbed to his feet. He and Doering stared off with Sekimoto and Okabayashi, telling the pair they’ll see them in the Team Quest.
