Didn't enjoy Savage in the booth at all.....and I agree with whoever said Superstar Billy Graham was awful because he really really was. Best ex wrestler turned color commentator for me?
Jesse The Body Ventura....hands down.

Gorilla, Heenan, Ventura, were all the best wrestler turned commentators.
I love Roddy Piper very much, but, his commentary run was awful! He screamed way too much and I didn't like when he favored the baby face. He was one of the best heels and to hear him hate on heel tactics made me sad.
Savage was horrible and as was Billy Graham. Anyone ever watch older episodes of "Prime Time" when some of the matches has Bob Orton, and Jake Roberts do commentary? Mike Mcgurk also did some and she was really bad. Top of the list goes to "The Duke of Dorchester" Pete Doherty who did color with "Lord" Alfred a few times!

I liked the fact that even though he was a babyface, he would sometimes talk trash about the other babyfaces. I distinctly remember him making fun of the Warrior for "prancing like a pony" one one episode of Superstars.

I liked Piper with Monsoon. Piper with McMahon was tolerable.
I can't believe a lot of hate for Savage on commentary?! To me, he represents 1993 and 1994 era so much, since he was on commentary so much during those time frames. I thought he and Vince were the true voice of Raw back then.

Gorilla, Heenan, Ventura, were all the best wrestler turned commentators. 100% agree. Nothing tops those 3 in my eyes.

Unless I missed something, two pages and not one mention of Brian Pillman. I would've probably forgotten about his stint on Shotgun Saturday Night if it wasn't for that recent thread celebrating its debut twenty years ago.
Pillman was intelligent, very quick-witted and infused enough of his "Loose Cannon" persona to make it feel edgy. Had he not passed away, he very well could've contributed a lot as a booth man during the Attitude Era.
As a big New Generation fan, I watched those '93-'96 PPVs religiously as a kid. Royal Rumble '94 is up there as a personal favorite, but agreed about Ted DiBiase. He was pretty boring and the charisma his character was famous for just didn't translate well on commentary.
I can still imagine if Heenan was there when Owen turned on Bret and kicked his leg out saying something classic like, "Should've happened to him six months ago."
Bobby was the man!

Pillman was awesome on color. Loved his brief run with J.R on Shotgun in 97.
And Bobby is the man without question. I'm a proud humanoid.
