I know 1992 is almost unargued as the best Rumble ever, and it did have a stellar field and was for the title. But I think it is trumped by the 1990 Rumble. It wasn't for the title, but the field was stacked! Every major star was in the match. Ted DiBiase, Jake Roberts, Randy Savage, and Roddy Piper were four of the first six entrants! Top to bottom, I don't think the 1992 field compares to 1990.

I think 2010 has a good case to be the best ever also. Tons of main event guys in that one.

2008 is still to this day one of my favorite Rumbles.
You had guys who were big name stars (Triple H, Batista, Undertaker, Michaels, Kane) You had guys who had big time potential futures (Morrison, Punk, Kennedy, Rhodes) You had big names from the past (Foley, Piper) and you had a big time surprise return (Cena)
as far as star power 1992 is up there, I think 2009 was a big year as well — Kane, Undertaker, Triple H, Orton, RVD, Jericho, Big Show, Punk, Mysterio, etc..
2003 was big too — HBK, Jericho, Lesnar, Batista, Undertaker, Kane, RVD, Edge, Mysterio, Guerrero, Hardy, a rookie Cena.
Idk too tough to call.

1992 for me. 90 had a great field as well but nothing IMO tops the 92 field.

92 for me
-8 past or future world champions (WWF/WCW/NWA) -15 WWE Hall of Famers -1 full time tag team wrestler (wasnt littered with tag wrestlers as filler. It was the top singles stars)
Most importantly I cant count anything past around 96-97 Rumble as they all became entirely way too predictable. The older Rumbles still had a suspense to them.

2008 had a lot of star power considering the era we were in, so did 2009 to an extent.
The same could be said for 2016.

1989 - 1992 is stacked. From the under card to the Rumble match itself.
The 1996 and 1997 ones had some big stars in it for that time period.
2001, 2002, and 2004 were pretty solid with stars.
2007 definitely was. As was 2010. And I would even say that 2014 had a lot of huge stars in the Rumble match.

It was the top singles stars) This is why its THE one. If this Rumble had Jerry Lawler, Ultimate Warrior, Lex Luger and one or two others? You would have had nearly all the active World Champs from the 80s/ Early 90s in there.

1990 had 7 past or future world champs, 10 past or future IC champs, and 13 HOFers. Pretty close statistically to 1992, but I still maintain that more stars were at their peak at the time and were in the Rumble itself. Hogan, Warrior, Savage, Piper, Roberts, Demolition, Rude, Perfect, Dibiase, Dusty...even Andre was in it.

RR'90 advantage: Bret, Dusty, Andre, Demolition, Warrior, Rude, Perfect
RR '92 advantage: Bulldog, Flair, singles HBK, Kerry, Undertaker, Slaughter, Sid
Yeah... I always considered '92 stronger, but you might have a point about 1990 having the better spread. Out of 1990's participants, the only guys you might consider jobbers were Koko and Rooster. '92 had a lot more guys who were jobbers or just dead end crap gimmicks: Volkoff, Berzerker, Virgil, Mustafa, Skinner, Repo.
So yeah, you've converted me.
There's a few reasons why '90 has always felt like less of a Rumble to me. First, because it peaked with the Warrior-Hogan collision and the last third of the match was predictable and boring. '92 was executed better, saving most of the big guns for the last third of the match. There was also the timeless Monsoon-Heenan commentary and the fact that Hogan didn't win that made it so much more interesting than '90.

I think Rumble 92 had a better back story but I do think the majority of the wrestlers were past their time with WWF. 1992 feels bigger because most, if not all, the participants were big deals at one point with WWF. Really no weak links but a lot of them were on their way out. 1990 may not feel that way because some of the wrestlers were just coming in to their own. Post-rumble, I think the 1990 event led to a better WrestleMania while WrestleMania VIII seemed like "throw something on the wall and see if it sticks" and that hurt the show. Looking back, it's almost like it was all planned from the beginning to be Hogan-Sid/Savage-Flair as opposed to Hogan-Flair for the title but I'm thinking that wasn't the case.

1990 is my fav rumble because of a stacked roster, but I'll admit 1992 is the better match. 1990 is pretty good tho & underrated

2004 for me
Benoit Angle Goldberg Big Show Kane Cena Jericho RVD Booker T Orton Christian Foley Steiner
Not all of those guys had a legit shot of winning but that's still a big list of names IMO.

early rumbles were stacked!
my favs were always ones where they really made it seem like a few possibilities of winners.
