That's a complete snub to AJ. He would be perfect for Michaels to wrestle and everybody wants to see it.

I agree with what he's saying though. It's about having the right dance partner. Look at his stuff with Undertaker. They played so well off of each other because HBK is the greatest underdog performer of all time. Every single one of his matches is built around the comeback. So when he has that big, bruising, monster across from him, it's easy to tell that dramatic, overcome the odds, story in the ring. It's why he was able to give Nash and Sid such good matches.
I don't think he's denying that he would have an amazing match with any of AJ, Rollins or Ziggler. In fact, he seems like he's passive aggressively complimenting all of those guys. However, he already did WrestleMania 19 with Jericho. So he probably feels like there is less of a story with those matches than what he would have with Joe. And while Joe wouldn't be my first pick, as it would definitely be AJ or Rollins, I certainly understand his perspective. Joe is an awesome hybrid too. Let's not undersell his ability to work multiple styles with multiple guys. Joe vs Punk, Joe vs AJ(and Daniels), and Joe vs Angle are some of the very best matches of all time. So it's not like Joe's not capable.
It doesn't matter though. HBK is never going to wrestle again, but I'm not that surprised to hear him say something like that even though it doesn't perfectly line up with what I think most fans want to see.

Absolutely shocked by that answer. But my god I've never thought about that match before. Those two would tell an AMAZING story together.

Not the answer i would have expected, but it would be a great match. I do fear for HBKs condition after the match lol

The underdog baby face is definitely HBK's strength as far as in ring stuff goes. Joe undoubtedly plays the monster heel better. AJ vs Michaels would be a great match, but Joe vs HBK would be a great match AND a great story for sure.

What a compliment to Joe, though. I hope that makes its way to some people in power.

As good as AJ would be, the thought of HBK/Joe sounds incredible.

Joe vs. Michaels would be awesome, but am I the only one who thinks Samoa Joe isn't as good as he was back then.

Joe vs. Michaels would be awesome, but am I the only one who thinks Samoa Joe isn't as good as he was back then. Joe has lost a step, for sure, but he was so good for such a long period of time that his "lost a step" is still substantially better than a large portion of the roster. The biggest thing with Joe, to me at least, is how real he seems in the ring. He doesn't have the body builder look, but he looks like a guy who could, and would, beat the living hell out of you. He's just extremely authentic, and he hasn't lost a bit of that. He's one of most believable guys in the ring, and that goes a long way. Like Brock Lesnar, I think he brings a lot of clout to his in-ring performance. He doesn't look like he's putting on a show.

Hasn't Shawn said the same about 9 other guys over the last 6-7 years?

I wished WWE build him up like TNA did in 05-07 when he dominated everyone and the X-Divison, cuz in those days it was very easy to believe how good he is. Of course he has gain a bit more weight and is older which is why I say he isn't as good as he was back then. But I do agree with you that he's one of the few wrestlers that is believable in the ring.

What a rub for Samoa Joe!
But Shawn is right. Shawn Michaels vs. AJ Styles wouldn't be that great. Both men have the same kind of athletic style. Shawn needs to work with either a big guy, or a technical guy.
I am sure Shawn vs. AJ would be fun, but there would be no real drama to it. Go back and watch Shawn vs. Angle, or Shawn vs. Taker, or Shawn vs. Diesel, or Shawn vs. Bulldog. That is when he shined at his best.

i agree with the others - it would be a great match. a shame we'll never get to see it.
would be interesting to see a 96 era hbk against joe...if hbk tried to treat joe like he did to vader, i don't think it would have gone over too well..
