Ok, so let me start by saying I'm a 80's and 90's wrestling fan. Mattel elite figures got me back into the WWE, and also the return of legends like Goldberg, Lesnar, Sting etc. One thing I just cannot understand is the belts. Which belt is the best belt (highest ranking belt) right now?
It was always: 1. Winged eagle Heavyweight Championship 2. Intercontinental Belt 3. Tag Team belts
I think it's much more confusing now with all these cheesy colored belts. I don't know if Owens or Styles is the number 1 guy in the company. The belts look so tacky, like something John Cena would wear.
Here's my guess to belt ranking as it stands: 1. Styles' belt 2. Owens' belt 3. US championship 4. IC belt 5. Tag belt
IS that right? Also, why so many belts? Is it because of the WCW belts being included?

AJ's and Owens' belt are supposed to be equals. Same with the US and IC, both tags, and both women's.

AJ's and Owens' belt are supposed to be equals. Same with the US and IC, both tags, and both women's. I think this detracts from the brand. It definitely makes me less interested in following. Would they ever have a match with title vs title and just unify the belts? I guess it's because of the whole Smackdown vs Raw thing right? I wish they could just have all wrestlers on both shows. If you wrestle on Raw one week, you may appear on Smackdown but not wrestle that week. There must be better ways to manage this.

The roster got too big to showcase everyone.

AJ's and Owens' belt are supposed to be equals. Same with the US and IC, both tags, and both women's. This. You're supposed to think of Raw and Smackdown as two separate-but-equal companies/brands. Therefore, their champions are equal as well.

The current set-up is a joke to me.

I get where you're coming from, but they split the show to give more people a chance to shine. If they didn't, there's a good chance that some mid or lower tier guys and gals would have been future endeavored. And that would suck.

It was like that from the early 2000s to around 2010(?) and now again from a July 2016. It allowed for more stars to develop like Batista, John Cena, Eddie Guerrero, Brock Lesnar, Edge, etc. When done correctly it works really good, and right now it's working pretty good.

To me there should be won major belt that moves between brands. IT can only be won at PPVs. That would make sense. Make it look different from this big dumb W belts. Make it look like a belt people want to wear around their waists. I just want the top dog belt in WWE that's all. I just feel a little out of sync watching the current product, and I think it's because there's so many belts and the same guys fighting each other every week.

What's cool is that with the brand split, you don't necessarily have to watch both brands. The popular opinion is that Smackdown is the superior brand so if you wanna try that one out (Smackdown has the WWE title, the Intercontinental title, their women's title, and their tag team titles. The brands have their own exclusive PPVs too, so you can really follow Smackdown and their PPVs as if it were its own company and the only times the other brand would be involved is in the big PPVs like Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Survivor Series, and I think Money In The Bank.

From what Ive read these are just some guys random photoshops. There is going to be a new IC & new US title but they are not going to be simple edits of the big W belt. Its also being said that not only are the titles going to be different but they're not even going to be US & IC titles but just simple mid card titles.

The title is a big WWE logo because its marketing. Its so wherever it is people know its a WWE title. When sports teams win their championships, WWE sends them one and its like big shiny product placement. I think most fans would like more intricate designs like the Big Gold, Winged Eagle or Undisputed title. The title AJ has with the black strap is technically the Winged Eagle/Big Eagle of the 80s/90s. It counts towards Flairs and Cenas reigns. The Universal is completely new and has new lineage starting with Finn Balor and Kevin Owens. Current WWE may not be for you if this is too much. I only started watching again a few years ago. They still had the Big Gold, but had just unified it again with Randy Orton. I was very confused, but its pro wrestling, so it doesnt have to make too much sense. One cool thing about the new titles is the sideplates. Nameplates were cool, but now they have discs with logos or names that go on either side of the main plate.

I've heard they're going to share the Big W design, but that could certainly be wrong. I do know the change was because Dave Millican owns the rights for the IC design. They wanted him to sign an exclusive contract with them, but he declined. So they're phasing it out because of that. I do know, whatever the design will be, it will be the same for both the US and IC with just the cosmetic change to brand it for either Raw or SD , ala the World and Universal Belts, Womens Belts, and Tag Belts.

This is an awesome breakdown. What I get from all the replies is that Styles is the top dog and has the official belt. It sounds like the universal belt is just to placate raw viewers

They dont count Moolah or Trish with these titles. The tag titles are so screwed up I can barely keep it straight. I believe the old Smackdown titles were the ones with lineage after the brand split. Hogan and Edge had the old titles before they made the new ones. Then they got unified AGAIN in like 2009/2010. Heres wikipedia to make your head spin.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWE_Tag_Team_Championship
