The winner will never give a speech like this. Put that cigarette out! Don't mess with Mean Gene, he gives zero s and has zero chill, even live on Pay-Per-View.

I know everyone's going to say 1992, but I've said 2003.
The reason is not that it was a great Rumble, but because at 11 years old, I wasn't able to stay up til 4am to watch it like I can now, and a bloke at work who worked with my dad recorded it for me on a video tape and gave it to me the next day, so I got to watch my first WWE PPV in its original form (until then, I'd bought PPVs like SummerSlam 2002 on video from HMV, but they'd been edited etc). I watched that video every night in bed until it was worn out. I loved it.

Of course 1992
But when I was younger, it had to be 1998. Steve Austin was the hottest thing going, and him winning was huge. I used to rent the VHS and watch it religiously. Good memories.

The good times when your parents taped a PPV from the night before. my dad did that with Wrestlemania 24 and I haven't watched it in ages but that's one VHS that isn't pre recorded that ill keep

Royal Rumble 1992 is still the undisputed greatest. Heenan was absolute magic, the match was dripping with huge stars, and the booking signaled a changing of the guard. Although HBK starting at #1 and outlasting everyone in '95 sticks out as the greatest single performance, RR '92 had all parts of the show working at maximum capacity. No RR has come close to topping it, and I doubt that ever changes.

It has to be 1992. Watching in the UK in the days before the internet it seemed inevitable that Hogan would win his third royal rumble...Then along comes Sid with his heel turn and Flair pushes him out with the help of the Hulkster. Classic.
Not a great Rumble by any means but 2005 is notable for the pasting that Daniel Puder got from Guerrero, Benoit and Holly and Vince blowing both his quads in trying to sort out the botched Batista and Cena ending. Fun stuff.
I am hoping for big things from this year's Rumble match.

The answer is hands down 1992. Most Rumbles going in have one maybe 2 storylines that could play out. Everything is just filler. The 92 Rumble had the Hogan-Flair feud, Flair-Piper feud, Hogan-Sid beef, Hogan-Taker feud, Macho-Jake feud. You had Martel & Valentine who both in the previous 2 rumbles when 40-50 mins come in late enough where if they repeated the feat they would be champions. Plus you had Flair proving he is the real worlds champion. On top of that you've got 8 past-future world champions and 15 hall of famers. It was a loaded field.
Honestly 2001 gets so much love on the boards both with Rumble but 02 was so much more start studded because you got the WCW guys in as well whereas they missed the 01 Rumble.
