the internet has been buzzing about the John Cena vs. AJ Styles match from the Royal Rumble and people are making comparisons between that match and Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada from NJPW's Wrestle Kingdom 11 event.
Also here's a bonus

I'm starting to get so sick of hearing about Omega vs Okada. I saw the match and it was really really good, but was it the best ever? Not for me. Not even close. And I say "Not for me" rather than "No" because there is no best match ever. It's a matter of opinion and so many factors go into it.
I could rattle off a whole list of matches I personally thought were better than Omega vs Okada. The case is probably different for other people and that's perfectly fine. I'm just sick of people treating this match like it's god's gift to the world and everything else isn't even a close second.
I'm also sick of hearing about Kenny Omega in general. Certainly he was the hottest free agent for a brief period before resigning but WWE absolutely doesn't "need" him. He doesn't "need" WWE either. If he signed with WWE, the best he could really do is do what AJ has been doing, because at the end of the day he can only be as strong as he's booked. WWE can make people disinterested in him real fast.
Also, it's time for Meltzer to change his pants and stop gushing over Omega. I normally find his opinion interesting, but he's so gaga over this that's it's bordering on creepy.

I enjoyed the match, but it's not the end all be all of professional wrestling IMO. Giving it 6 out of 5 stars is dumb. Sounds like something a child would say.

I'm a WWE guy through and through. I watch and enjoy individual matches from other promotions. I have, at times, watched TNA and ROH weekly, but don't any longer. I watch the highly touted NJPW matches, but can't keep up with their product. I just have too many other hobbies and WWE is a huge enough commitment as it is.
I'm also a storyline guy. For the most part, it's hard for me to get invested in a match if I'm not invested in a storyline. It's why most of the good to very good matches on Raw do absolutely nothing for me - because they're almost always thrown out there with no rhyme or reason. It's why, many times, the big matches I watch from other promotions don't hit me the way they do others. I'm either not invested in the story, or I'm not invested in the wrestlers.
I absolutely adore AJ Styles. I think he's the best wrestler in the world. I dislike John Cena as a character but have grown to anticipate his big matches as much, if not more so, than any other top-tier wrestler in the business. Styles/Cena from Summerslam was my favorite match of last year.
With all of those qualifiers, I think Omega vs. Okada was significantly better than last night's Styles/Cena match. I don't even think they belong in the same category.

It's almost like pro-wrestling is subjective.

Okada/Omega was much better than Cena/Styles. Hell, Cena/Styles couldn't even top their prior match front Summerslam. It was good, but certainly not on Okada/Omega's level.

i'm not fond of a lot of bubba dudley's overly self righteous opinions.
as i said in the rr thread, omega/osaka > cena/aj III. wasn't even aj/cena's best outing.

Kenny Omega is a douche and needs to get over himself. His match with Okada was good, not great. It felt like an exhibition match. No selling, no storytelling. Cena/Styles was better in that regard. It was an edge of your seat match.

Bubba tends to say a lot of things I agree with. Though I can't agree with him on this because both matches are overrated as . Omega needs to get his head out of his ass, though. He's overrating himself Lol.

Nobody gave a crap about Cena vs AJ until they hit 20 finishers and Cena did a Code Red. Until then they were just going through the motions.

AJ/Cena at RR wasn't even the best AJ/Cena match

Cena/Styles was good, but it had way too many of the same exact spots as their match at Summerslam.

I can't comment on the New Japan match but the finisher-kickout-bigger finisher-kickout-SUPER MOVE stuff really doesn't entertain me much anymore. Edit: on rewatch I actually really like the first 90% of the match. I maintain my criticism of the finishing stretch though, although I liked the 2 AAs to finish. Also the commentary team was hot garbage.

I've got no idea who this Kenny Omega guy is that everyone has been going on about for the past month, but he comes across as an incredibly arrogant, self-obsessed, pompous disgrace from those tweets. He's free to have those opinions about himself, and everyone should take pride in their work, but to insult and condescend fans in a broad generalisation in the way that he did, and to tell people about how amazing he is, is just terrible behaviour.
The guy should at least have some class and not resort to having to tell people about how much better he thinks he is than anyone else.
I'm not interested in anything non-WWE (as it is just not for me), but I thought AJ Styles VS John Cena at the Royal Rumble was a great match.

I loved AJ vs Cena last night, and I loved Okada vs Omega. However I am getting sick of hearing about Okada vs Omega. It's getting annoying especially with Meltzer pissing his pants about the match being 6 stars. Personally i thought the match was 5 stars. AJ vs Cena for me was **** 3/4 stars, only cause i don't think this is the last of their feud and in the end of their feud, it will be a 5 star match

Better wrestling: AJ vs. Cena
Better sports entertainment: Okada vs. Omega.

Last night was essentially a rehash of the Summerslam match, just not as good. Kind of like Undertaker/HBK at 26 was essentially the same as 25. The Summerslam match was my favorite match last year, especially being there in person. But last night wasn't as good as Summerslam. Nor was it as good as Okada/Omega. I only watch WWE, but I don't think a match will top Omega/Okada this year. If there is one, it will probably come from Omega again

I watched AJ vs. Cena today and didn't think it was nearly as good as their SummerSlam match. Cena, as usual, completely stopped selling the left leg that AJ spent a majority of the match working on. And, like most WWE matches these days, the entire match eventually came down to each guy being hit with 45 different finishers and kicking out at the last second. AJ's matches with Ambrose at Backlash and TLC were far better, IMO.
