So this is just a topic that I'd be interested in getting a general consensus as to which fans think were better. I remember at the time THQ were still publishing, they would be facing strong criticism from fans every year. Now with 2K the criticism doesn't seem to be as strong, but still there nonetheless.
Both companies definitely took a different approach. THQ were always focused on every single game being unique and changing year to year. SmackDown VS RAW 2008 had the focus on all new fighting styles. SmackDown VS RAW 2009 had the tag team overhaul. WWE '12 had the all new predator technology. And so on.
Whereas with 2K, they don't seem to add any radical new features or overhauls, just simply on improving and building upon the previous year's game to make it better in every possible way.
So which approach do you prefer? THQ or 2K? Or do you think both publishers did just as good a job as each other in their own way?

It's really the same thing. 2K and THQ are really just the publishers of the game and most of the work is done by Yukes, and even in WWE 2k17, there are move and entrance animations that have been in the game for well over a decade. The game really needs a new engine and EVERYTHING needs to be re-animated, as it is clear with the amount of bugs and issues with WWE 2k17 that the remnants of the old engine are not compatible or easily integrated with the new aspects they are attempting to incorporate.

The publisher is not the problem...... it is Yukes! The state of 2K17 is just absolutely horrible. We need a new developer! They use ten year old animations! I would go as far to say that half the character models are just terrible and how after making wrestling games all this time can they not make belts or hair look good? Taking out the main single player mode and replacing it with nothing was the final straw for me. But hey as long as they include random mid carder A from NXT that is all that matters!
It has been going on far too long now and I am just done. I flat out refuse to support these games by buying them new as I honestly do not feel that they deserve my hard earned money.
I really miss the days where each console got a different wrestling game, there was a bit of variety. Now with Yukes strangle hold, we just get the same crap every year. I really think the WWE series is the kind of thing that should have a two year development cycle. One year have an arcade style game like All Stars or Legends Of Wrestlemania and then the next have your WWE 2K sim style game. The one year development time these games have does not work any more.

Yukes make the game, I heard that it's going to change and 2K are making there game on there own but sadly that means another 2 years of games being unfinished and not as good because it would be there first time. I think they should make 1 game and keep updating it and making us pay for DLC for new characters rather than buying the same game every year. This year's game has had the best gameplay since 2k14 but there's nothing to do with 2 bad game modes. It's like SVR 2009 great roster and gameplay but there just wasn't anything to do

I'd just like to remind everyone that this topic was not about the developer, Yukes, but about the publishers. Regardless of who is "at fault" (though it was never a question of blame), both eras of publishers definitely are distinct from each other. That was what the question of the topic was about. Which do you prefer, or are they both as good as each other?
Despite the developers being the ones actually making the game, the publishers are still able to influence game development and demand changes in very significant ways, because they're the ones with the money that makes developing the game possible.
This topic was for a question of preference, and not one for pointing blame.

A combination of both would be outstanding. If I can have the GM mode with the gameplay of recent WWE games, I would be addicted.

While I do believe the gameplay is the best it has been this year, a situation like DOA5 Last Round, where the base game is free but you have to pay extra for all of the characters and costumes would be awesome. I typically only play as the women, and having to pay for the characters I want to play as would be ideal. Also if they started doing this your roster would could span years. If I had all of the Divas from SVR 2009 through today on one game I would be one happy camper.
