One of the things that's missing these days are humongous fat guys. I get tired of people acting like wrestlers suck unless they've got movesets like Dean Malenko. I'll take a giant porkchop smothering some guy in a corner or planting his colossal ass on someone's chest any day. This is one reason I keep rewatching wrestling from my childhood and getting bored with modern stuff, because there used to be so much more variety among wrestler types, which would create so many different kinds of matchups. Now I hear them hyping up how some chubby guy who looks like Larry Mondello with a beard weighs almost 300 pounds! I would like to introduce him to Jerry Blackwell from the old AWA, who weighed half a ton and stood less than 5 feet tall. He was taller laying down than standing up, but he could still do a dropkick (more like falling over backward while kicking his stump-like legs in the air, but still).
Anyway... who's with me?

Same here man. I miss the days of fat guys and giants. I'm probably in the minority here but I was a big fan of the Natural Disasters.

I liked Big Daddy V/Viscera, I thought he was cool. Lots of other guys too, but he's the one that came to mind. Fat guys always have a place in wrestling. I don't know if morbidly obese people are people WWE want to be promoting nowadays, though.

I'm fond of both Bam Bam and Vader.
IMO Earthquake is right up there with them though. That guy was immensely strong. Watch him catch Bossman coming off the top turnbuckle at Survivor Series '89 (I think). Then, he could also throw a mean dropkick... not a fat guy dropkick, but an actual good dropkick. His head and legs and hands were huge like a bear. Just impressive in every way, aside from maybe the skullet.

I think that is why Braun Strowman is as popular as he is right now, because a lot of us older fans miss seeing big, giant men inside the squared circle.
As for classic big men...
Bam Bam Bigelow was always my favourite.
I remember his feud with the One Man Gang in 1987/1988 and thought it was great.

You're gonna love when Kassius Ohno debuts on the main roster.

I love larger than life wrestlers and that's why Braun Strowman is my favorite part of Raw.

There's always room for at least one fatty in wrestling!

Depends the wrestler. A guy like King Kong Bundy who could actually wrestle without a doubt I miss. A guy like Uncle Elmer not so much.

Old baby I agree with you 100% - I hate the fact that almost everyone in wrestling now MUST have a 6-pack body otherwise they sadly cannot get into the business/called up to the roster..... whatever. I too miss the glory days when it was perfectly fine for a wrestler to be overweight, how times have sadly changed in wrestling......

I do miss the giants in WWE, the modern fan calls for someone to be very athletic which doesn't always apply to bigger guys other than the freak of nature Braun Strowman.
Since WWE is so public now I think they've developed some kinda image paranoia where they don't want massively fat guys featured on their products Owens is a bigger dude but his belly isn't on display so it's "tasteful" I don't think WWE would allow a daddy V size character on TV now with the rolls of fat and tits. They kinda only brought up his weight as an issue when he started wearing less ring attire. As Viscera and the world largest love machine gimmicks he was covered up so it wasn't "unsightly"

Yeah I liked wrestlers like Bundy, One Man Gang, and Bam Bam Bigalow. They added variety to the shows. I know a lot of internet fans hate those types of wrestlers because they don't put on 5 STAR MATCHES. Ugh!

can't forget yokozuna!
fat guys, muscular guys, tough guys, rookies, veterans...these are important wrestling archtypes that make up what we view wrestling as. take them away and there is definitely a void.

I think that's what made wrestling in the 90s so popular. There was something for everyone. You had a clown, hillbillies, skinny people, fat people, garbage man and everything in between. These days its pretty cookie cutter with how everyone looks and the "gimmick" portion is pretty much gone from wrestling.

I've been saying the same thing for a long time.
