He is deserving. Sure there are others who maybe are more deserving. But Teddy has done it all in the wrestling business for a very long time, and suffered a lot of racism early on. I think it's a solid addition.

In one form or another, Teddy Long has been on my TV for the better part of 30 years. From ref, to manager, to commentator, to WWE ref, to WWE manager, to SD GM. He's been a staple of the business for as long as I've been watching. Good for him.
Plus he was born on the same day as me, Dan Marino, & Tom Hardy. So that's bonus points.
