On Bruce Prichard's podcast he made mention that originally the Iraqi sympathizer gimmick was meant for Tugboat! He was going to turn heel on Hogan and be refereed to as Sheik Tugboat. I had NEVER heard that before, even as a rumor. A heel turn makes sense, since Tugboat was really getting pushed in summer 1990 as Hogans buddy, and did eventually turn heel anyway and tag with Earthquake. But had never heard he was gonna get the Iraqi gimmick and, I guess, potentially main event WM7. Or maybe he would have been a stable mate with Slaughter, which might have been cool. Maybe then we were to get Slaughter and Tugboat vs Hogan and Warrior at Summerslam 91.
However, in my head, Tugboat would have looked pretty cool in camo and a turban.

Never heard that before.
Sounds kinda awful though. Consider how unsuccessful the Hogan-Slaughter feud was when Slaughter was sort of the ideal character for the heel turn. Replace Slaughter with Tugboat wearing a turban. Ehhh...

I'm glad they didn't go that route. Tugboat becoming Typhoon was the better choice.

Eesh. Reminds me when Jerry Blackwell was a sheik for a while with Ken Patera.

He wasn't going to be a sheik. He was just gonna turn on Hogan. It was covered in the WM 7 podcast. Every cast since then, they refer to it as Sheik Tugboat as shorthand.

Hogan did wrestle Typhoon though in a match. It was on an old WWF Coliseum video of The Hulkster that was released in 1992.

Yes, I believe it was on that tape too. Just curious, but did Earthquake and Typhoon ever tag up with Quake wearing his blue tights?? I remember the Hasbro figures released Quake in blue and Typhoon in his normal red/black colour, but I always wondered if they ever did tag in real life like that??

This promo here is the only time I recall them wearing different attires. Quake might of wore the blue trunks for one match after they formed but I'm not 100% sure.

Nice! I found this picture online as well, so apparently Quake did wrestle in the blue while teaming with Typhoon at times.

I also believe Earthquake had the blue outfit during the UK tour at Royal Albert Hall in October 1991.

Eh, I think it could have worked. Back then it was slim pickings to have anyone go up against Hogan in the main event of Mania. I think Ted Dibiase could have done well if he wasn't tied up with Virgil back then.

Consider a WrestleMania main event with a guy named Tugboat.

He wore it in the Battle Royal at Albert Hall and tied it in with Typhoon by wearing Red boots. I can't really understand why Typhoon didn't opt for a blue attire. Considering his water theme, blue would have made so much more sense.
