Personally I think Mattel should take the opportunity to make other gimmicks of Brutus Beefcake in figure form while he is contracted, I was always disappointed that Jakks only did Beefcake so I hope Mattel will be a bit more ambitious. And while I'm sure many of you will jump to say there's no chance, remember Mattel said if Shockmaster was successful (and it was) they were going to investigate ways of doing other more obscure characters in a way that makes sense financially. So with that in mind what do you guys think our chances are now?
While I didn't see any of his early career (or his WWF career for that matter) I grew up watching WCW from 1995 till the end and personally enjoyed all his gimmicks there so would buy all 4 of them, though Disciple would be my 1st choice, Butcher 2nd, Zodiac 3rd, Booty Man 4th. Though in terms of my prediction, I think we might see Disciple, but sadly I don't think Mattel will even consider any of the others.
The Butcher was a great heel as part of the Three Faces Of Fear stable (along with Kevin Sullivan and Avalanche) would love to see a 3-pack with Butcher having a ponytail, mean looking headscan, and sunglasses, Sullivan with a robe and Avalanche in his WCW gear.
The Disciple was a great mysterious henchman of Hogan and the NWO and had an awesome tough biker look with his beard and leather gear. We need more NWO figures and the faction is still very popular and well remembered amongst fans.
And while The Booty Man and Zodiac were admittedly pretty laughable, they were still fun parts of the pre-NWO era of WCW and I'm all for Mattel celebrating "wrestlecrap" in figure form. Stuff that is memorable for being bad or goofy absolutely deserves to be made if Mattel can figure out a way to do them that financially makes sense. A Booty Man 2-pack with The Booty Babe (aka Kimberly Page) would be awesome, and we NEED loads of Dungeon Of Doom multipacks, seriously that faction defines wrestlecrap in it's greatest form, particularly in the early days when the Master spoke to the Taskmaster in the caves or jungle or whatever it was. And it got more legitimate towards the end when guys like Big Bubba and Konnan joined. So many great characters. THE YETI would be a freakin amazing SDCC exclusive sometime (and yes I am serious!) following on from the Shockmaster they did. But yeh let's get a Zodiac in those packs somewhere too please Mattel.
I didn't include "The Man With No Name" since anyone who has actually watched WCW in depth will know that character looks identical to The Butcher, even in the attire, so it's pointless to include it in the poll. And Brother Bruti was pretty much identical to Brutus Beefcake (hence the WWF lawsuit and subsequent renaming) so there's no point including that either.
Please keep this thread positive and on-topic. Obviously I do get Brutus Beefcake is his most successful gimmick but I would really like to hear people's thoughts on Mattel going deeper than just that one character, and as stated, it might very well be more possible now than it was in the past.
