instead we get puny figures that, at this point, are all repaints with different heads. super skinny arms, painted on tape and no elbow pads that are made of increasingly cheaper plastics with painted skin tones for $25 with piss poor distribution and about a years turnaround time.

BWAHAHAH!!!! Perfect first post. If we still had Jakks, Jeremy would be posting updates constantly and we would get heads that actually looked like the wrestler. Like this Ric Flair?! If you're gonna take a shot at me, there should be a few from Jakks most recent RA or DA figures you could use. An obscure TTL? Really? C'mon! Half of WFigs probably werent born before that figure was released.

Haha that Asuka is a real treasure!
I don't foresee Mattel getting as lazy as Jakks. However! HOWEVER....this rubber jacket and shirt junk needs to STOP! Mattel please! I know cloth probably is a cost issue. However that Elite 51 Stephanie looks absolutely terrible in her jacket. HOF Edge can't pose his arms in his. Same with Elite Becky. They are the only thing that makes irks me with Mattel's work. To quote Lo Pan, "it pisses me off to no end"

For those that weren't around prior to 2007 or who don't get how an expiring contract works, Jakks had no reason to make new mold/parts or to put substantial effort into their 2009 figures...WWE didn't renew their contract. The fact that in 2009 Jakks still was producing new characters (Swagger, Christian, R Truth, Kendrick, Zeke, etc.) until the very end is an actual testament to their ethics.
Jakks behavior at the end was just a way to maximize profits by minimizing costs, they had no consumers to satisfy because their stuff was going to get pulled from shelves at some point.
What Jakks was notorious for doing was releasing 2-3 non-perfect versions of a figure, each with one positive feature. A prime example of this (for all you old guys like me) was Austin in ring gear in 2001. Jakks gave us the best scan, white wrist tape, wrong boots, no elbow articulation, and all the kneepads/braces (TTL 10), the inferior screaming scan, correct boots, elbow articulation, a vest, but no kneepads/braces (Rebellion 3), best scan, elbow articulation, all pads/braces, vest, white wrist tape...but packed with Vince McMahon (Famous Scenes 3). All released in the same wave. This was also in a time when pads were brand new and not standard on every figure. I can tell you that this was infuriating. Jakks also never ever ever released a perfect version of a figure for the 1st figure, so as a collector who traded a lot on here I always knew to never spend too much time/money trying to acquire the 1st release of a guy because a substantially better version was going to be out shortly and the 1st version would be worthless (ex. Umaga, Carlito, RA Edge in ring gear, HBK in pants ring gear, etc etc). As others alluded to, Jakks was also notorious for putting a sought after figure or new awesome scan on a street gear figure(Brock, RA Edge, Jericho, APA, return Y2J), releasing tag teams as single figures instead of as a double pack, putting 1 member of a tag team in ring gear and the other in street gear, packing sought after/1st time figures with shelf warmers (Umaga, Khali, MVP, Rhyno, Rosie, Orlando Jordan, Heidenreich, Teddy Long, Rated R Edge, Ted Dibiase...pretty much every female figure).
I think mattel takes a lot more pride in their product, whereas Jakks was always clearly focused on the budget and maximizing profits/ensuring repeat customers.
As others have stated Jakks headscans were far superior to mattel. A lot of people also forget that Jakks was a machine at popping stuff out, we'd get a new wave of RA/AD/CS practically every month.
To me the biggest advantage with mattel, and I think it comes more from WWEs side and NXT, is that there is a figure in stores already (if not multiple) of a new wrestler often before they even debut.

The Dolph Ziggler elite figure does NOT like this.

I love how the New Day are purposely not in the same attire - two with shirts, one without. That's exactly what Jakks used to do, e.g. Nasty Boys. the best is James Ellsworth all jakked up and standing just as tall as Braun ala Jakks Undertaker compared to Rey Mysterio...talk about suspending your disbelief when you bought Jakks figures. At the time I thought the Nasty Boys being that way was annoying, but I later realised you got extra figures that way, buy doubles and swap the heads. You then had a set of wrestling attire Nasties and a set of entrance attire Nasties.

Jakks destroyed wrestling figures Without Jakks Classic Superstars, there would be no Mattel Legends/Flashbacks, so show some respect. I disagree with you. The fact there is legends figures/classics/retro's is just a pure marketing stunt. Nothing to do with Jakks. I think jakks were poor. They had no style, just used a name and went along with it. With Hasbro, Galoob, Kenner, Mattel at least they had quality. IMO

Jakks had pros but a ton of negatives. My main issue is with sculpt. I get why RAs weren't great. They came out in 2002 and by the time people wanted more articulation, they were in too deep to change the style. Mattel sort of has this issue but at least they're experimenting ie. The new elbow joints. However, DA came out in 2006 and there was no reason for those to be as ugly as they were. It's like the r3 line failed so they tried to go the complete opposite direction. Some of those r3 sculpts are better than what Mattel is putting out 16 years later. Mainly the torso and arms. Those r3 torsos were crazy realistic looking. I mean go look at the r3 benoit and edge. The problem is the articulation SUCKED and the boots looked like a customizer using miliput for the first time. They're crooked, uneven, and look like chicken legs. Anyway, I never respected jakks even back in the day because of the horsecrap they'd pull. No designs on the back, deliberately wrong part choices only to release the correct ones later, deliberate laziness ie. giant Gonzalez having no detail on the legs, one partner in wrestling gear the other in a tshirt and the list goes on. Mattel has a bunch of issues mainly the plastic shirts and wrong part choices, but it's a lot harder to make a list of bad Mattel figures than it is to make a list of great jakks figure. Mattel is consistent and it's why I continue to buy them. Yeah rhyno is a dud but it's the first one in a while. It seemed like every wave from jakks had at least one dud.

Forgotten fun fact: the reason WWE kicked Jakks to the curb (besides Mattel being the biggest toy company you can have) is because some of Jakks top executives were extorting money from them. WWE started planning to switch companies in 2005, they just let their Jakks contract run out because they didn't want to not have a toy deal ready to go and lose money as a result

IMO Jakks took a gamble on something that had never been done before, didnt know whether it would succeed or not and ended up paving the way for the Mattel Legends/Flashbacks we are getting now. The quality of their figures is a different matter, but they certainly did not ruin wrestling figures.

I'd would have loved to see Jeremy and Bill in charge of Mattel WWE together. Imagine what we could see.

(I would probably actually buy a bikini Asuka though)
