I am really not trying to add to all of the complaining that I see on the boards all the time, but there are quite a few problems that I had with the build-ups to WrestleMania. I will just name a few:
AJ Styles vs. Shane I really enjoyed this match and I was actually looking forward to it beforehand. I was never one to talk down about this match because it isn't good enough for AJ. My problem is how his title reign ended beforehand. I do not believe that Cena should have won the title at the Rumble, just to lose it to Bray a month later. If the plan was to always give Bray the belt, then Bray should have won it in the Chamber with Aj walking in as the champion. I am not saying that Cena should have never become a 16-time world champion, but it should have been built up more and it should have happened where he could have a lengthy reign afterwards.
Alexa vs. Smackdown Women's Roster First off, matches like these are always garbage. You can smell from a mile away that it was slapped together to get everyone on the card. This should have been a 1 on 1 match with Naomi AND ALexa should not have lost the title until WrestleMania. Naomi should have lost the first time around and then finally win the title in her hometown at Mania. Instead, Naomi wins, gets hurt, Alexa wins for the time being, and Naomi wins again.
Bray vs. Randy I thought this feud went the opposite direction then what would make sense as a cohesive story. I do not believe that Bray or Orton should have won the rumble. It did not make sense for Orton to win the rumble before turning on Bray. And there is no tension int he meantime because Bray was not champion yet. The only way that would have worked correctly is if Bray was champion at the time of the Rumble. Instead, Bray should have won at the chamber, and Orton could have simply turned on him. Simple as that. There was no need to throw another Rumble victory on Orton. Also, they messed up Harper during this feud. Best case scenario would have been to have Harper in the match as a three-way.
Lesnar vs. Goldberg This is an easy one... This should NOT have been for the title. This never needed to be for the title. The story was there. Plain and simple. Having the title in this match ruined the Jericho/ Owens storyline and has now put the Universal Title picture on hold.
Smackdown Title Picture They should have saved the Usos title win for WrestleMania. I don't care fi they used it for the pre-show, but ti should have been somewhere on the card. Or, at least have the rematch ont he card.
Jericho vs. Owens And lastly, what should have been the best feud of the year... This has been building for months, and for those that say that this match didn't need the title are wrong. This entire feud was based around the title. Jericho was constantly saving his friend in title matches to keep the Universal title. AND Owens also helped Jericho win the US title. This match should have been for both titles, or they should have found some way to get the US title off of Jericho before the match. There current feud over the US title matches no sense because the US title was never the focus of this feud. In my opinion, Jericho should have been the one to win the Rumble. He would challenge Owens for the title and win at Wresltemania. They would continue to feud until Jericho leaves for his tour and Owens would leave the feud as champion. This would end at the perfect time for Balor to return and challenge Owens for the title he never actually lost. You could even throw Seth in the mix afterwards since he was in that match with Balor for the title.
Thoughts?

Haha Taker/Reigns cause Taker should have retired at WM28 at 20-0 and go out like a champ with Shawn Michaels.

I was fine with the SmackDown Women's Title Match. Sucks they only got five minutes but maybe if everyone didn't bitch and moan they could've had a lengthier match? To me that showed that everyone in the Women's Division was worthy of a shot where as compared to RAW, it was the usual three plus Nia who was thrown in because they didn't want to do another Triple Threat.
Hate that just because Bill won the belt that automatically meant Brock was challenging for it.
Owens and Jericho should've been for the Universal, have the 61 Minute MAAAAAAAAAN win the Rumble and challenge Owens. Maybe Title vs Title.
AJ vs Shane was fine because AJ had a gripe with Cena showing up and getting whatever he wants.
Bray should've won a Triple Threat against Orton and Harper.
They've handled the SmackDown Tag Division wrong ever since Alpha won but that's no reason for the titles not being on the line. Kickoff, main show have The Usos demand a match and defend them that way.

There's always things that can be done better in hindsight, but what's done is done. To me, nothing that occurred at or leading up to Wrestlemania was particular egregious, with the exception of Orton/Wyatt, which was one of the worst feuds in recent memory. It was absolutely horrible going in, the match was horrible, and it only got worse after Mania. Knowing what we know now, there was no justifiable reason to have ever put the title on Bray, or for Randy to win the Rumble - something a lot of us predicted going in.

Haha Taker/Reigns cause Taker should have retired at WM28 at 20-0 and go out like a champ with Shawn Michaels. Lots of people say that but how could he not have had that Paul Bearer tribute victory going 21-0. Punk was the perfect heel to run that angle. Plus that was a good match.

I know it’s an old thread but Harper should have beat AJ in their Smackdown match for the number one contenders spot making the match a triple threat match. The story was there.
Punk should have went into 29 as champ making it a triple threat too.

This would end at the perfect time for Balor to return and challenge Owens for the title he never actually lost. You could even throw Seth in the mix afterwards since he was in that match with Balor for the title. Thoughts? WM 33 feels so long ago; I was starting to get back into WWE after 2 years of being pretty inactive. But; I wasn't fully on board. What sold me is hearing the brands were back; AJ Styles was being used well. Goldberg having the gold; was nice for Goldberg fans. His family; I never agreed with it. The only Goldberg match I enjoyed was WM 33. It didn't need the belt at all. Just have Lesnar take the title off Jericho at the next PPV. I'd be fine with that. The Lesnar title reign in 2017; actually produced some fantastic matches. Styles/McMahon had fun match; I didn't know to much about they're feud. The booking going in was questionable. But I guess it could help steer the wheel and throw us going into Mania. But; to be fair WWE really lacks long term booking. I like unpredictably; but some things need plan. The last long term plan I remember was Reigns facing Lesnar at WM 34; which I didn't really like. Long term stories are fine; if it's this slow burn. Or the characters finally come together at Mania. I really loved Jinder as person and someone that was nobody getting shot. But; it really wasn't done all to well. Jericho/Owens was one of the hottest angles. And I think WWE ruined it. And it's sad the payoff we got. WM 33 is weird one; because WM 33 really should of been great. And I think 2017 should of been better then 2016 as a overall year. WWE really had so much momentum and new fire under it; if stayed in that direction we would of had consistently good years. WWE was riding with lots of momemtium in 2016 going into 2017. And it feels like it hit a wall at this event. And I think things really started to stagnant minus the fact we did get some very awesome PPV main events in 2017. And Raw's main event scene was pretty solid. Randy and Bray on paper sounded so good. I remember in 2014 hoping we'd get it. But WM 33 match was just horrific. Luke Harper could of easily spiced this up; and if this match got some good time to work with. I think that triple threat would of been fantastic. I think Orton didn't really need the Rumble win; I remember being puzzled he won it. But; Orton-Bray was another one. That could of had huge payoff; along with Luke Harper's part in all of it. TLC 2020; in my eyes did redeem the feud. And actually restored my interest in new program. I think this also starts the trend of clustered WrestleMania's. I really liked WM 35; but I was exhausted by the main event. I really like let's get everyone on the card; and I think everyone deserves to make the Mania card. But I think 2 night events should really be the move moving forward. Some of the other stuff i've seen is Dean turning on Seth in 2018. I thought this was such sh** move. And that program had zero interest. I think if the Shield actually had strong reunion; making Ambrose slowly grow crazy and turn heel on them both. Would of been huge pay off.

Not surprised as to who/why this was bumped lol.
But as far as the actual thread is concerned, I don’t understand the complaint regarding Styles vs. Shane. What does AJ losing the title at Rumble or Chamber have to do with the Mania feud with Shane?

Since the topic is about that WM, even at the time I thought it was strange they had Bayley win the belt off Charlotte on the previous PPV instead of doing it at Mania. Bayley winning her first title and ending Charlotte's streak seemed like a "Wrestlemania moment" that wrote itself.

Not surprised as to who/why this was bumped lol. But as far as the actual thread is concerned, I don’t understand the complaint regarding Styles vs. Shane. What does AJ losing the title at Rumble or Chamber have to do with the Mania feud with Shane? How did you know? Has he done this before? I legit did not even realize that this was my original thread until I saw notifications on my account. As for your comment about AJ, I believe the issue was more with how Cena's 16th title reign should have been more important than simply a transition to Bray. I believe that is what I was going for, but again this was YEARS ago. I can't even believe it was bumped up lol.
