Ok so the Clash of Champions has been locked and we are now onto discussion #2 which being July we will go with the "1990 Great American Bash" from Baltimore MD. Also we will now be taking requests for the next PPV to watch & discuss... so at the end of your posts please feel free to suggest the next PPV. Pillman vs Lindel - wasn't as bad as some say. Pillman had and showed his athletic ability. Lindel played the arrogant cowardly heel very nicely. And he had great expressions. But it certainly wasn't a barn burner and didn't set the pace for the PPV . But it would have been a nice match on WCW Saturday Night, but not PPV worthy. Mike Rotunda vs Iron Sheik - another match that wasn't really bad, but again not really PPV worthy. Doug Furnas vs Dutch Mantell - this match was the best of the first three, but still not a barn burner . Nor has the crowd gotten into the show yet. Harley Race vs Tommy Rich - it was a decent match and the crowd was starting to wake up a little. Southern Boys vs Midnight Express - this was a fantastic match. Everyone played their part perfectly. I always felt that Beautiful Bobby was an underrated talent. And this was the match that the crowd came alive. Vader's WCW debut vs Tom Zink - a nice squash match for Vader's debut victory. Steiners vs Freebirds - I always enjoyed Steiner Brothers matches, but this match while enjoyable should have been better. Horsemen vs JYD, Mr Wonderful and El Gigante - El Gigante had no business being inside the ring let alone in a ring with those 5. Luger vs Mean Mark Callous - Underrated match because many don't give Lex the credit he deserved. I was sad when Mean Mark left WCW, but clearly it was the right choice. Doom vs Rock & Roll Express - a solid match. Sting vs Flair - as most everyone knows this is tied with the RR '00 NYC Street Fight between Cactus Jack vs Triple H as my All-Time favorite match. Loved everything about this match.

I felt that this was a really solid PPV for WCW in 1990. The build up to Sting vs. Flair was clearly a year in the making in some ways. For it was Sting who helped Flair at the Great American Bash 1989 in getting attacked by Funk and company.
The Sting vs. Flair match delivered in a wrestling stand point as well. The fans got what they wanted - Sting being NWA World Champion. It was simple, effective, and it worked. Shocking!
"Mean" Mark Callous also got his US Title shot at Lex Luger at this event. I believe this was "Mean" Mark's last appearance in WCW too before heading to the WWE as that Undertaker fellow.
Lots of tag matches!!
Doom vs. Rock n Roll Express for the Tag Titles, Steiners vs. Freebirds, and of course.....
The US Tag Title match between the Midnight Express vs. The Southern Boys. Maybe one of the greatest tag team matches ever in not just WCW history, but pro wrestling history. The match was so good that it even made the WWE's DVD release of "The History of WCW."
Harley Race returned too at this event, and I remember Jim Ross and Bob Caudle mentioning the 'crown' Harley had on his tights, and was wondering whatever could it mean.
Overall, this one of the best WCW PPVs in 1990, and maybe a top 10 WCW PPV overall!
Being that August is next month, I would enjoy hearing people's thoughts on a Road Wild/Hog Wild event. The year doesn't matter, for those events were never really that great, but still were fun to watch back then.

I found this show to be a mixed bag. It had some great stuff, but also some things that didn't click and felt like filler. I thought it was all bad until the incredible US Tag Title match. That's one of the best tag matches you'll see anywhere. Regardless of company, style or era, that match just works. The Vader squash and Steiners/Freebirds match were fun. It was cool seeing Mean Mark. That and the Doom match were fine. The main event is awesome and probably my favorite Sting/Flair match. Even more than the COTC I match.
Pillman/Landell - *3/4 Rotunda/Sheik - 1/4* Furnas/Mantel - 3/4* Race/Rich - DUD Southern Boys/Express - ****1/2 Vader/Z-Man - *1/2 Steiners/Freebirds - **3/4 Six man tag - *1/4 Luger/Callous - **1/4 Doom/Express - **1/2 Flair/Sting - ****

I always thought this GAB was solid even with some of the duds in it. My thoughts...
Brian Pillman vs Buddy Landel- Pretty good opening match here. I always thought Landel had potential. It's a shame his demons got in the way.
Iron Sheik vs Mike Rotunda- Nothing special but that was to be expected with a sheiky baby match especially in the 90s.
Doug Furnas vs Dutch Mantell- Not a bad match here with Mantell doing the majority of the work since Furnas was green at the time.
Harley Race vs Tommy ''Wildifre'' Rich- A DUD like Kevstaaa said but Race was pretty much retired or near it so I'll give it some slack in that regard.
Midnights vs Young Pistols for US tag belts. Just awesome all around. I miss this kind of tag wrestling.
Vader vs Tom Zenk- An enjoyable squash overall. It was the birth of VADER TIME in WCW!!!!
Steiners vs Freebirds- Nowhere near the tag title match but still not bad at all.
Arn/Barry/Sid vs JYD/Orndorff/El Gigante- Bad stuff here. It's crazy to think they pushed El Gigante to the World Title picture despite how awful he was in the ring.
Luger Vs Mean Mark for U.S. belt- Not a bad match here. Just 4 months later a legend was born in the WWF.
Doom vs RNR Express for World tag belts- slow at times but still enjoyable.
Sting vs Ric Flair for the World Title- Great match as the norm with these two asthey always had excellent chemistry together. It was the night Sting finally got the big one which was a memorable moment in itself.
Side note here: Ross and Caudle are an underrated announce team IMO. They worked so well together in the booth.
My August PPV Vote: SSlam 90.

Buddy Landel was the worst. Sorry, but he's the bastard child of Ric Flair & Eddie Money. Back then I wasn't a huge fan of young Pillman, but looking back, he wasn't bad. Okay opener even though you knew who'd win.
Rotunda was always great, but this gimmick stunk. Sheik was well past his prime. Only the second match I can think of that was won by a backslide. Match was okay.
I honestly forgot Doug Furnas was in wCw at this stage. Yet again, match was just okay.
I NEVER saw the appeal in Tommy Rich. Blows my mind he was ever considered World champion material. This match was not good.
Everything the Midnight Express did was gold. Looking back the Southern Boys weren't as bad as I thought then. Best match up to this point.
I know people usually make fun of wCw's over the top disqualification rule. But the Midnight Express showed why it kinda worked. It made fans feel it was a tide turner.
I'm not sure what look the Freebirds were going for. Wow it was awful. Steiner Brothers were fantastic, but I get depressed over what Scott became. Match was good.
El Gigante was so bad. Waste of Windham & Arn's talent. Forgot how oddly popular Sid was at this time.
I don't care what anyone says, for the standards back then, Lex Luger was not a bad wrestler. This match with Mean Mark shows Luger's skill and Mark's potential. While not great by any means, this was a pretty good match.
When I was younger, I used to give all my friends the Torture Rack. And now I have a surgically repaired bad back. Coincidence?
I don't think Doom gets enough credit. They were scary together. So much so, R n' R Express looked frail in comparison. Fair match with a cool finish.
Sting was the s**t back then. I loved him and THIS look was by far my favorite look of his. I waited almost 30 years for it in figure form. Ric was not a favorite of mine back then. But once I got smarter I realized that was his job. Then I couldn't help but to appreciate him. I would like for this match to ended with something other than a roll up, but the match was great regardless.
I'll have to put some thought into what event I'd like to do next. Maybe SummerSlam 89? The Brain Busters & The Hart Foundation is one of the best tag matches ever.

good event!
main event was AWESOME, and a couple great tag team matches!
was soooo looking forward to Arn/Barry/Sid vs JYD/Orndorff/El Gigante, but it ended up a dud and so short.
**next event** - gotta be a Summerslam, 88-93?

I just watched the timeline of WWE with Bruce Prichard, and apparently Taker wrestled that match with Luger while having a broken hip! Now that's tough!!

Ah Sting vs Flair. Sting returning from the debilitating knee injury sustained in Corpus Christi to take Flairs title. Magic.....
I find the rest of the card forgettable but Steiners vs Freebirds & Southern Boys vs ME was great stuff.

Quite frankly, when anyone looks back at the legacy of WCW, this PPV will rank right up there in the Top 5.
We did have some overly drawn out curtain jerkers like Pillman/Landell, Shiek (crazy as ever!)/Rotunda, Furnas/Mantell (hairy as ever!), and Race/Rich <-- which could have been someone's dream match of two former NWA champs.
But things really ignited with the Midnight Express and Southern Boys/Young Pistols - tag team wrestling at its best. And the PPV didn't hold back, Steiners/Freebirds and Doom/RnR were on display to show you how tag team wrestling is done!
What I really liked about this PPV though was the American debut of Vader! I seem to recall his mastodon helmet malfunctioning a bit but man did he make an immediate impact. Did he do a moonsault in this match? I just remember being in awe of someone his size with such agility.
Sid had all the tools, really - if you were to describe the best look for a wrestler, Sid had it in spades. 6' 9", 318 lbs of solid lean muscle, broad shoulders, gah this guy was gifted with the body for wrestling. I wonder if Arn and Sid have reconciled since the squeegee/scissors incident? Along with Barry and Rick, this was my favourite incarnation of the Horsemen (and I love Tully!).
Everyone has said it already, but this PPV marked the end of Mean Mark and the birth of the Undertaker a few months later. The rest is history.
Sting overcoming Ric was an absolute perfect main event. I'm not a fan of wrestlers wearing old glory, but it was so appropriate for the occasion. I just wish Sting didn't hold the title upside down for the photo ops afterwards.
All-in-all it was a terrific (and long) PPV, that will go down as one of the best on film.

About the requests, I'm all for SummerSlam 1991. It was the first show I ever remember watching and I used to rent it all the time. Bret/Perfect is one of my all-time favorite matches.

He was the prototypical white meat babyface of the era, particularly in the territories: white, long, blonde hair, looks that the ladies liked, and energetic. Guys who fit this mold usually got pushes to at least the upper mid-card since they fell into the visual "hero template" of the time period.

I understand that, and maybe it's just me, but I think he has the build of E.T., the face of an elderly woman, and the hair from a used mop. After him, they had to reevaluate the template.
