Do you guys think Owen would've been a good WWF champ? Do you think it would've lasted long? I for one think he would have a good run not great but definitely better than Diesel's run as champ or Sid's.

He definitely deserved at least a small run during his King of Hart days. It would've been brief but no doubt memorable.

Owen would've been a great champion and the King of Harts gimmick would've been the perfect time to pull the trigger.

I never saw Owen as a Main Event Heavyweight champion guy. To me he was perfect for mid card titles/tag teams runs. But not as the heavyweight championship. I mean I could see him as a contender and wrestle for the title, but I didn't see him as a guy who could carry it.

Owen was great but the only time I can see him getting a run with the WWF Title would have been a quick transitional reign between Bret and Diesel. Instead of Backlund beating Bret, Owen would beat him at SS '94 and then drop it to Diesel at the 1995 Royal Rumble.
You could also possibly have him beat Shawn instead of Sid at the 1996 SS but I don't see Vince wanting Owen to main event a WM.
I don't see any other time that Owen could have held the world title besides the two moments above. The timing was just never right unfortunately.

In this day and age? Yes.
Back then, maybe. It would've been cool to see him as champ in 94 after beating Bret at Mania 10. He could've had a 3-4 month run to torment Bret and eventually have Bret win the belt off of him.

Owen winning at Survivor Series 94 and losing it two days later to Diesel would have worked. But then people would have complained about Owen only having a two day reign.
There is no way that Owen could have had a lengthy reign if he did have it, that's for sure. But in a way, I am glad he never had it. Because I am not sure if the Hart Foundation in 1997 would have worked out so well if both Bret and Owen were former WWE Champions. Owen made the perfect IC Champion and Tag Champion with Davey.

With Bret at WCW, I could of seen him with the title as the black Hart.
But Austin was too hot not to take it off HBK. Shame really.

Imo he should of beat Bret for it and then dropped it a few days later to Diesel. After the screw job he was a white hot baby face but they killed that momentum almost instantly.I'd have him beat HBk for the title at December iyh and either drop it back to HBk in January or have Owen go heel after trying to break Austins neck again. Then have Owen drop the title to Austin at mania.

I've thought about this. Owen was always an incredible performer, but you can't argue that his biggest year was 1994. Beats his brother at Wrestlemania X, wins King of the Ring and just was always in the main event scene with Bret as champ.
The Backlund storyline where he snapped was pretty damn awesome and the drama of his title match with Bret at Survivor Series is still pro wrestling at its absolute best. Who can forget Owen's performance trying to convince their mom to throw in the towel? That loss for Bret broke my 7 year-old heart.
If Owen was ever going to be champion it would've been in 1994. He could have survived the squash from Diesel and it would have saved us from an additional few months of Bret/Backlund which absolutely sucked. I know they wanted to give Bret the win to cap their feud, but they peaked at Survivor Series and Diesel winning the belt so decisively killed any credibility Backlund had built up. I swear Vince wanted to make 1995 the most frustrating year in Bret's career with all the garbage he had to work with. I'll take Bret/Owen for the hundredth time over Bret versus Lawler/dentist/pirate.

No. Some guys simply just arent world champion/main guy type. Owen was best at what he did which is why it worked so well.

I've always heard the rumor he was supposed to win the belt in the cage at Summerslam but turned it down.

From the 2000s on when the belt constantly changed hands and had 2 belts, he could've been champ.
Back then, he was never a main event guy. He worked 1 big angle because of his brother, and I don't think he should've gotten the belt at any point.
From a booking/Kayfabe standpoint back then, Bret should've went over like he did. People say he should've gotten Backlund's spot, but I disagree. I enjoyed the Backlund stuff up until SS. Also, if Owen did take the belt from Bret, I feel like Bret needed to be the one to take it back not Diesel. It was a heated feud and just how wrestling angles were done back then.
Post Survivor Series 97, he was hot but that was Austin's time so no way. Maybe give him a shot at Rumble. Austin/Michaels/DX/Tyson was the story for Mania and Owen didn't belong there.
