So I figured instead of clogging up the "What Game are you Gaming" thread we could have a dedicated thread to discussing the game since between myself, drifter , @3nwpro , among others there's quite a lot of interest in this game. And rightfully so; this is definitely my game of the year thus far and I can only think of one other game coming out that might top it for me. So who would've thought the company that made Killzone (Which wasn't necessarily bad, it was just another standard FPS in a time where FPS games were EVERYWHERE) would come out with something this amazing? So I guess I'll start us off with a couple of tips from my experience thus far: - Explore every settlement you can see on the map (The icon that's houses in a diamond shape) because they usually have a couple of sidequests and you aren't forced to visit all of them over the course of the main story. - The ropecaster can only take handling or tear mods so just stick handling on it. Speaking of, handling increases the fire rate of a weapon since it's not entirely clear. - Slings are pretty useless early game, but the purple versions of them can do some crazy damage when you get access to them. - flying enemies. That is all. They're not even too dangerous, just annoying to fight. - Creating a job for crafting or buying items adds a quest to your errands to find the requisite materials. It's a lot more useful than I initially assumed it to be. And now a question: What's the Rattler like? It's the only weapon I've never tried and I don't have the materials right now to buy one.

Oh yeah, glinthawks aren't so bad when there's one or two, you get those few missions, where you have a half dozen though, even when you have the abilities to slow down time, they're a bitch. The one in Meridian nearly had me loose my mind, because you only have the small area to run around while fighting them.
Never used the rattler, honestly, didn't really seem like it was something I truly needed. When I got to the final mission, I was so glad I got that power armor, you have to collect power cores for. Came in handy.

The hidden Death Stranding items are my favorite part of the game, but I've yet to play it. I own it, but yet to play it.

Great idea Weemanv1; I did get a tad carried away, didn't I?! Finally a game I could sink my teeth into, as I don't really consider myself a gamer, there has to be a fair bit to a game for me to even consider playing through it. Thankfully, this has that and then some. The story is very compelling; the voice acting (especially by Aloy's Ashley Burch) is simply superb. I hate to compare, but the vibe I get is similar to when I played The Last Of Us for the first time - I just got completely swept up in everything because of the strength of the story and the characters of Joel and Ellie. Main quest-wise I'm only up to helping Olin with a loot stash before taking on the Eclipse, as well helping Erend discover what happened to Ersa. I wanted to be strong enough to take on enemies in these later quest stages/chapters, plus I just love doing stuff at my own pace - I imagine you guys get blissfully distracted too when setting out to do something - sometimes 'random happenstances' occur (I went to find a Vantage Point near a settlement but two Behemoths were causing a ruckus out of nowhere. I managed to safely Override them but still - so random) I also took over the Bandit Camps. I'm a stickler for stealth, so I added pressure to myself to only complete them without being spotted at all. Thanks for the tips Joe! I have no doubt I haven't been playing as long as you but what I've found: - For my playstyle (mainly stealth approaches) the Tripcaster/Ropecaster is more trouble than it's worth. - The Rattler came in handy against the Bellowback at my first Cauldron...alternating between that, strafing shots with Fire Arrows and concentrated shots to visible Components. - The Tearblast Arrows are the absolute saving grace of weapons for me. They are CRUCIAL against the Thunderjaw, Behemoth, Trampler and especially the Stalker. - The three arrow types I use most are: Tearblast, Precision and Hardpoint. I supplement them with Fire, Shock and Freeze where possible. - I haven't had to use any potions. (touch wood) - Apparently merchants are different everywhere but I guess I'm not looking hard enough; I can't see massive differences. (that doesn't include the ones in Meridian) Earlier in the game I found some Power Cells; before I went to Devil's Grief I found some Ruins that had an armour suit and used three of these Power Cells to unlock part of the device holding the suit. Since then - couldn't find any other Power Cells. Can they only be found in similar Ruins? Does anyone else happen upon a small herd of say, Striders or Chargers and Override one, hoping that by the time the Tool recharges you can Override others? I do, and it sadly never works - the Hostiles always cotton on and fight the Friendly. I've yet to Override a Corruptor (which I don't think I can, anyway), Glinthawk, Stormbird and Thunderjaw. Still having fun.

Overrode a Thunderjaw, Glinthawk and a Stormbird (had no idea it was so big!)

I just beat the game and the final battle was pretty damn intense. Though it was probably a ton easier because I went out of my way to get the shield weaver armor. One detail I loved was how all of your friends made over the course of the game and sidequests came to join you in the final battle.

I felt like an idiot there, because the first go around, I ran out of time, with not enough damage done, and then I realized what I did wrong. I only used fire arrows, when you should be using a mix of fire arrows and the hard point ones. I'm with you on the armor, I probably would have gotten my butt kicked worse if I didn't have that. And the updated staff you get prior, holy crap I love that thing.

Yeah, it took me until about halfway through the game to learn that fire arrows are great for lightning things on fire but don't actually do a lot of damage on contact otherwise, lol. That said, the fire DOT effect is pretty useful on enemies weak to fire. Something else I'm glad I learned before this fight is that the fire ammo for the sling can set things on fire, but can't cause the machines to overheat and expose their cores. Died to more than a few corrupters before I figured that out.

This is one of my favourite games I've played, top five at least. The scenery is amazing. Sometimes I'll just walk around and just take in all the detail of the landscape. I remember around when I first started playing, I'd see something weak like a Charger and think 'how the hell do I defeat that?'. Now I'll go hunting Behemoths for fun. Stormbirds can right off. Every time I'm one arrow away from filling the meter up, it'll fly out of range. Glinthawks are simple to take down but still annoying. I also used the armor for the final mission but wish I hadn't because it felt far too easy. I was expecting a bit more than a Deathbringer seeing as we already had to deal with one earlier in the game. I'm trying to remember more about it since I haven't played it in a couple of months and because my cousin has borrowed my copy (he also said it was one of his favourite games) but when I get it back, I'll be giving it another run through.

I just saw a rabbit in the real world and I reacted as if I saw it in the game and my mind went "I need to kill it for it's fatty meat."

Two more power cells to go before I can get that armour near Devil's Grief.
Christ it feels like an age ago that I saw the Tallneck there and was mesmerised by it.

Managed to find all the Metal Flowers and the Vantage Points. The last Vantage Point was a bitch to get! Took ages to get there, and had to get past a whole bunch of Machines (including Glinthawks and Stalkers) a lot of climbing and oh yeah - a f***ing bastard Stormbird...Tearblast is a must. The narrative that goes with the Vantage Points doesn't quite enthral me.

I know this because I did the exact same thing lol.

There's only one Ancient Vessel left but I can't seem to find it even though the waypoint is locked on it. 😐

Christ was that unfair. I'm constantly floored at the visuals, the story, the world they've created. I'm playing as often as I can, not enough to burn myself out on it but enough to hook me (which wasn't that hard).

Utterly stupendous.
