Could you imagine that in an alternate world, THQ released No Mercy on the PS1? Do you think it would be as beloved as it is now? What do y'all think? Also would that canceled Backlash game be released had No Mercy been released on the PS1?

Well, it would have a superior controller (Which isn't exactly hard) and use a memory card for saves rather than a battery backup which eventually fails. Both would be obvious upgrades but the game otherwise probably wouldn't be much different. Better music quality too, but probably longer load times.

It would've been another Smackdown 2. The N64 made it special.

The moves probably would have been more difficult to pull off. I remember those early wrestling game moves being 3 to 4 buttons to perform a move. The cartoonish looks of N64 made it perfect to me along side all the other great things in the game.

my apologies yes i meant PS1 i was half baked.
Another reason No Mercy rules is due to In Game Customisation, hours of fun. Still now its legacy lives online (check out The Old Skool Reunion forum)
If they include it in the N64 Mini HD next year you know its good!

If there is a N64 Classic, I doubt they could include No Mercy due to licensing. WWE would have to be paid, whoever owns the publishing rights (assuming its 2K) would need to be paid, everyone in the game not currently under a WWE deal would need to be paid.

Not only that the WWF logo would need removed which would require editing on every arena so along with the licensing it would be more than trouble than it's worth for Nintendo.

If they could, maybe they would put in Wrestlemania 2000 instead.

If they could, maybe they would put in Wrestlemania 2000 instead. They would run into almost all the same issues as with No Mercy. It's why you haven't see any real licensed games on the NES or SNES classics despite them being quite notable exemptions (think NBA Jam, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, etc)

Well.. i'll tell you one thing, if No Mercy was on the PS1 it would of sold ALOT more copies & become even more popular than it was on the N64, my reason for that is the fact that every kid back in that generation owned a PS1 over the N64, it was the "cool" console at the time. Growing up, I must of been one of the few kids at my school that owned an N64, all my friends had the shiny & glorious PS1 playing their Crash Bandicoots while scoffing at peasants like me. To this day, I die happy knowing that we had the legendary AKI games on team 64.

Recently got my N64 down from the loft.
Had great fun looking at all the CAWs me and my friends made as kids.
Some god awful ones, some decent creations though too.
If it had been on the PS1, it wouldn't have been half as good. Those chunky, solid N64 graphics are what make it so special. But I guess it would have had some better sound. The control was great I thought with it too, no issues.
Man, just release this in HD and be done with it! Still the best wrestling game to date.

Growing up everyone I knew had Nintendo 64 over PlayStation. My cousin was the only person I knew that had a PlayStation at the time.

PS1 was a solid console that did well but Sony didn't really hot their stride until PS2 imo.
