They would look awesome as a Hasbro style tag team as their attires are so colourful. Would fit in perfectly with the original line! Personally, I'd love to see a tag team around the Hasbro era as well, so it's Men On A Mission for me. Maybe they'd do both if the line ran for long enough and they decided to go with 2-pack tag teams (unlikely at this stage, apparently).

How do you think the value of these Mattel will compare to the hasbro figures in the long term?

How do you think the value of these Mattel will compare to the hasbro figures in the long term? A few of them are already going for more than retail price on auction sites and they've only just come out! However, these are a celebration of the Hasbro line, I feel, so it depends how many Series they do and whether they maintain the early popularity they seem to have so far. When the Hasbro's came out they didn't have the massive competition that the Retros have now, in terms of other wrestling figures. I suppose it's impossible to tell at this early stage. I would be surprised if they were going for the prices that some Hasbro's go for now, in 25 years, relatively speaking of course.

Well I've finally cracked and ordered the Retros from Smyths online because I am so, so weak They didn't have Lesnar available so it's just the other three - hopefully the cards arrive in good shape. In terms of future value, I'm not sure we'll see anything significant in terms of value growth like we've seen with the Hasbros - it seems to me that the idea of vintage collectables is more widely known about now, so people will be buying them now hoping to offer them for profit later, meaning the supply will be quite high. I know I did this when the Jakks figures started coming-out in the UK; I've got boxes of them which when I checked eBay a few months ago revealed that they weren't going for anything much at all - in fact given the price the UK stores were charging, they've probably lost value in the 15 years I've had them. I would've been much better off using the money to finish the green cards, the mailaways or the series 3 figures that seem to have always been of greater value than others. Hell I probably could've got Dusty for what I spent on the Jakks figures. Not only would that have turned-out better economically, but I'd have enjoyed it more since the Hasbros are obviously "my" line. But then of course I'd never sell them, so financially I'd be the same as I am now, just with a more complete MOC collection

They're only going for good prices because people are excited for them. They're like 90s comics, next year when no one but people like us care, they'll be $1.
The Hasbros are expensive because kids bought then and wrecked them. These are being bought to go in clamshell cases and get AFA graded

I hope they arrive in better shape than mine, I wasn't impressed to be honest. I was happy to get them but it was a little tinged as I was really hoping to pick them up in the store. My 'local' Smyths still hasn't had a single Retro until this day. I agree with your views on their possible value in years to come, of course, none of us can know for certain, but as you say collectors are now buying figures to put away and save, which will no doubt have an effect on the numbers of unopened cards in years to come. This has been happening for a while though I guess and the toy lines have been onto this by offering '1 of 100' etc. I'll still enjoy collecting them though, which I suppose is what it's all about at the end of the day. I'm glad I got all my Hasbro's when I did all those years back, I check the average prices all the time and I never expected to see them spike like they have done in the past couple of years! I do wonder if they'll keep going up or if they'll level out at some point.

I used to know this guy who had a HUGE Rubbermaid tub of Star Wars Episode 1 figures to resell one day......too bad a million other people had the same idea (and the movie sucked too)!
I do think Hasbro prices will plateau. The high prices are the result of the kids who played with them hitting an age where they have disposable income, and also the introduction of the Network letting people watch these matches again doesn't hurt. But eventually people feed that nolstalgia, and they have less to spend on figures as life/marriage/kids get in the way,and the prices go back down. Next after that,Jakks BCA prices skyrocket.
I'm a pretty big Godzilla fan and I remember the same thing happening in the 90s,action figure prices were through the roof! Now those same figures are mostly reasonably priced, only a few actually rare ones command too dollar. Those movies were popular in the 70s,and now average collector has "grown out" of collecting.
Not that this matters to me. I've sold a few things here and there but my rule of thumb is collect what you want to own,and you'll always be happy. The Hasbros I own bring me joy,so they were worth what I paid.

I don't see the Hasbros or LJNs for that matter going back down in price in the future. I think the supply is getting scarce. And I don't see jakks becoming anything big either.

My 'local' Smyths still hasn't had a single Retro until this day. Mine arrived this morning - big credit to Smyths for getting them here so quick (ordered Thursday lunch-time and they were dispatched later that day and arrived Saturday morning - can't complain for free delivery ). The box was very big for three figures, but they were packed with airbags (there's probably specific name for them...) so that will have helped keep them steady during transit. Only the Warrior card had a bit of a bump on one of its corners, but that smoothed-out fine; the other two were fine from that perspective, but both have little flaws that were probably there before they were packed - I'd not have taken them in store, but given the price stickers, I fear it could be worse Once they get Lesnar back in stock and the series 2 figures then I'll probably order online again. I agree with your views on their possible value in years to come, of course, none of us can know for certain, but as you say collectors are now buying figures to put away and save, which will no doubt have an effect on the numbers of unopened cards in years to come. And I don't see jakks becoming anything big either. I like the logic on prices being dictated by the ageing of the fans and their salary commitments, though honestly I'm not sure that will play-out. The Jakks are what, 20 years old now since they first started? I'm not sure prices will improve that much from here, but we shall see. The rise in Hasbro prices over that last year or so is something else though - even in the time since I've started looking at prices again there seems to have been a lot of inflation. If the Retros are to blame for sparking new interest then prices should regress, but at this stage we'll just have to see. I have over 50 MOC Hasbros, mostly bought during the Attitude Era from eBay or the odd toy store discovers, so I don't need to do too much crying about prices now. I did pick-up quite a few rare pieces then from the normal production (and they're not going back into circulation any time soon ) but my loose collection is now down to only the rarer pieces, so completing that is going to be expensive as things stand - the casino will need to be generous to me...

I guess I'm not entirely sure what will happen with Hasbro prices, but it's been an insane jump in prices from about 2 years ago. I really wish I had not sold off my collection right before I heard about the retros and renewed my intrest in the line.
But Jakks, eh, I don't think they were ever great figures, plus looking back, I have no real nostalgia for that era even though it was almost 20 years ago. Looking back it really doesn't age well, other than a bit of the main event scene, I could care less about the stuff that happened back then.

Interesting - Ambrose and Rollins were rumoured for series 3, but are these maybe going to be Ringside exclusives given how close these are to the series 2 releases, and that there are only four listed? I'm not sure how Mattel usually do exclusives.

If they end up in retail too, maybe I'd buy the whole set. Dissapointed to only get one legend out of 4 for this wave, just hope the Goldberg is WCW era and turns out nice.

I guess we'll have to wait for more information on these figures. It's a bit confusing as they don't actually mention it being Series 3 or anything from what I've seen, just that they're retro's. Maybe Series 4 will be all legends! We can only wish...

I'm very curious about what they do with the three from the Hasbros, especially Flair given the action he had in that line. But Bret and HBK were great figures, so let's see what direction Mattel decide to take them in. Can't wait! 😀

I loved the Bret figure and the HBK one, both Series 6 and 10 attires for the latter. The Flair figure was poor in the Hasbro line if we had to be honest, I'd love a new figure of him, maybe even including a robe! If they went down the accessories route.
