CM Punk in 2008, even Punk admitted his run as a champion was a fail.

I'll point to "exhibit A," our 2009-2012 group...
- Sheamus - The guy was booked well as a legit heel on ECW, but was quickly moved to Raw and immediately put into a title feud without establishing him to the Raw fans (let's be honest nobody watched ECW at the time except to see Christian). His subsequent title reign did him no favors either as his booking was horrendous (didn't pin or submit Cena, and lost by DQ to Orton) before dropping it in the EC.
- Jack Swagger - I liked Swagger in ECW. He was built as a goofball but a legit threat in the ring with his amateur wrestling background (similar to Kurt Angle in 2000). Then he moved to Raw and was booked to loose to guys like Santino Marella pretty consistently. Then he won the MITB out of nowhere, won the title later that week, and lost clean to Orton, Big Show and Mysterio for 2 months. I get they wanted the MITB off of him before they implemented the PPV but the win and title run killed his credibility. Yes Jack messed up his run at WM29 himself, but his first title run was all on the WWE.
- Alberto Del Rio - I never liked the guy and never saw the appeal. Decent in the ring but bland guy with no charisma. Him loosing to Edge and Christian for months on SD didn't help his case, but then he was moved to Raw and booked to loose to Big Show and Kane before winning the title, and then lost it a month later. Building the guys up first would have helped him a ton IMO (as with the guys above).

Sheamus, Del Rio and Swagger are always easy picks for this.
On the flip side, I love how they waited until the perfect time to put the belt on HBK.

i suppose a lot of people on this forum would argue that bayley also won it too early. i felt that lesnar's reign at the top after beating the rock at summerslam was rushed at the time, but in retrospect enjoy the booking. i am just a big rock fan. Yeah, and plus they were planning on Brock to beat Stone Cold in the King of The Ring QUALIFYING match. I don't blame Steve for walking out on them for that.
