I've never understood this one.
Owen shocked the wrestling world by turning on Bret. He finally jumped out of the shadow, his stock was about to soar and for some reason they thought it'd be a good idea to have him compete in the Rumble match just to pad Diesel's stats? If this was 1992 or 1993 then I'd understand. But you just played out this HUGE angle with Owen and Bret only to have him look like a chump an hour later. Never made any sense to me.

Yeah they should've definitely took Owen out of the Rumble. It would've made the heel turn that much more effective.

If they insisted on Owen being in the Rumble all they had to do was give him a long run in it so by the time Bret came in he could've got his revenge and thrown him out. Diesel throwing him out real quick like that just made Owen look like a jobber after that great heel turn earlier. Bad move overall.

I didnt mind Owen being in it but having him so far from Bret was kinda dumb. I wouldnt have him dominate like Diesel but Id have him in there for quite a while. Then when Bret finally shows up, Owen just jump over the top rope and leave.

Yeah he should of been involved with Bret some how in the match. But I guess they wanted to keep them away from each other. If that was the case, taking him out of the Rumble would of been the smart choice.

I never really though of this until this thread but yea it did seem a bit disjointed to launch a new big heel and then have him wasted in the rumble match

His 1995 Royal Rumble appearance was worse!
He attacked Bret and Diesel in their match, and come Rumble time, he gets to the ring, Bret attacks him, beats him up, throws Owen into the ring where Bulldog is there to clothesline him right over the ropes and he's eliminated.

The roster was so thin back then. They needed him in the rumble just because there was probably no one else to put in that spot. If my memory is correct the 94 rumble only had 29 guys in it, so they needed him out there.

Worse in a sense because he got eliminated immediately, but it played into the storyline well since he just screwed over Bret and now Bret was returning the favor. Don't use a heel you're trying to build up to feed to another heel you're trying to build up. Throw in Barry Horrowitz if you needed another victim for Diesel. They had a whole locker room of jobbers back then.

They had a whole locker room of jobbers back then. Even that night I still felt Owen wasn't worthy to wrestle Bret. For that entire year of 1993, Owen was Koko's partner, injured, or in Bret's shadow. So I think it made sense for Diesel to eliminate Owen, because I doubt any fans at that moment thought Owen was a legit threat to Bret or anyone for that matter. It wasn't until Owen pinned Bret at Wrestlemania X when fans said, "Okay... this dude can go!" Then when he beat Tatanka, 123 Kid and Razor Ramon at the KOTR, it made him a star. So I was never bothered by Owen being one of Diesel's eliminations.
