OK at WM 24 Taker defeats Edge to win the WHC which pleased many fans. His previous reign 1 year earlier abruptly ended due to injury and this one was no different.
After Backlash Guerrero strips him off the title because he used Hells gate and then Edge wins the vacant title back at One Night Stand.
Now my question is why did they strip the title of Taker in the first place? If Edge was going to win it back then why not let Taker hold it until One Night Stand instead of both men battling for a vacant title?
Was it Takers decision? Because it's something that has always puzzled me.

Ask bruce Prichard on twitter. He will know Or Michael Hayes because I think he was the producer during Edge/Taker in 2008. Good question though, I remember never questioning it at the time and just accepted that they still considered Hell’s Gate as a banned move (from a kayfabe stand point). It was hilarious when he first did it and people would bleed from their mouth though lol. |

I guess they wanted to do Edge vs Undertaker at mania, but didnt want the streak to end. They had to find a way of getting the title back on edge but didnt want the Undertaker to lose the title without a single successful defence, it also gets Guerrero over more as a heel for stripping the dead man and helping her husband (?) win the gold. again.

Does make sense. I remember being furious when it happened because he has to forfit the title a year previous. |
