So I was thinking after watching some old WWF Superstars shows from 1995, would Dean Douglas have beat HBK for the IC Title at In Your House in Oct. 95??
I know Dean did get the IC Title off HBK that night, but HBK did hand it over. Would Dean have beaten HBK though??
I know I heard stories before of HBK inviting Douglas into the Kliq but he declined. After that, Douglas became a jobber pretty much. I just wonder if Douglas was on good with the Kliq, would HBK have laid down for him??

I'd say he would have. By that point they were grooming HBK for the World Title so his days in the IC Title scene were numbered.
Dean holding the belt until December where Razor would defeat em sounds about right.

It bothers me that Shane Douglas can say he was IC champ but only for a few minutes. Shane was clearly his own worst enemy in that WWF run. If he had just joined up with the Kliq when HBK asked him to, he would have been set. I remember in 1997 before HBK and HHH became "DX" they were holding up the Triple Threat hand signal and saying, "Triple Threat!" I always wondered if that was just HBK being pissed still at Shane for not joining them?? Because seeing HBK, HHH and Shane Douglas together as a heel group in 1997 for the WWF would have been pretty sweet.

What I like about Shane is that he didn't play politics. I'm glad he didn't join them. Don't you think his run should have been successful due to being talented?
You guys are going to likely disagree, but I think Shane was a better promo than Shawn and Hunter. In ring is a different story.

I remember HBK said in a shoot for RF Video that he always heard about Shane's promos in ECW, and he finally got around to watching some and all Shane did was cuss. Well, yes, Shane did cuss a lot in promos, but I feel Shane was a better promo man than HBK was. Yes, Shane's talent should have gotten him a great run in the WWF back then, but the Kliq was gonna hold all those down who didn't wanna join them or be aligned with them. Sad but true.

Can you imagine his Franchise character in the WWF during the Attitude Era? Talk about must see TV.

Can you imagine his Franchise character in the WWF during the Attitude Era? Talk about must see TV. It almost happened in 1999. When he left ECW in May of 1999 he had talks with the WWF and WCW. He signed with WCW because they offered more money. Plus Benoit, Malenko and Bigelow were already in WCW too, so that is another reason he probably signed. Though imagine The Franchise coming out and going after Triple H in 1999?? That would have made for some good TV.

Shane once said in an interview that he met The Rock at Owen Hart's funeral and Rock asked Shane if he is coming to wwf so they can work with each other? Can you imagine how great it would have been to see them go at it on the mic?
Supposedly Shane has turned down numerous offers from wwe since they bought wcw.
If they would have brought Shane in as the Franchise in 1995, maybe he would have lasted longer despite not being liked by the kliq.

Nope, I love Shawn Michaels, but during this time I honestly do not think anything would have made him lose that belt in the middle of the ring to Dean. He would have come up with some way to forfeit it or pitch such a fit that he would not have lost it.

After his ECW run I was actually hoping he'd go back to the WWF as his character was perfect for that time period.

If Douglas had joined the Kliq he would have had a much different career that's for sure. The other 5 were all big time players and would become even bigger. No reason to assume Douglas wouldn't have either.
Douglas wanted to leave WCW to join WWF in January 2000 with Benoit, Malenko, Saturn & Eddie but Vince didn't want him. Konnan was also rebuked.
For the record I would have LOVED to see him come in with the Radicalz.

I don't think so. From the way Bruce Prichard talked about it, Douglas was a flop with Vince. I think he even said Vince was high on him at first because of his ring work, but there was just a total lack of confidence from Douglas in that character and it began to leak out. I think the character was bad and Douglas wasn't comfortable and it was easy to tell. So hearing that from him didn't surprise me, at all.
I've personally never understood the Douglas appeal. I always thought he was a good tag team guy, but outside of that he wasn't anything special for me. I'm pretty versed in his entire career from WWF through TNA. I just don't see what some people do in him. I think he's a solid promo and a good worker, but not in a way where I think he was cheated out of anything. His stuff with Michael Shane is still probably my favorite stuff he's ever done outside of his run as TV Champ.
I do think he would have been a great fit for the Radicalz in 2000, primarily because he was with those guys in WCW. The Franchise character was definitely suited for the Attitude Era, but I don't think anyone was more suited for WWF during that time period than Raven and he was used at the bottom of the card. So it's hard for me to envision Shane getting a good push as The Franchise in a time where more talented guys weren't being used well. Plus, Douglas had free reign as The Franchise in WCW and he wasn't much more than background noise in the midcard.
He's an idiot for not joining the Kliq imo. Those guys extend the olive branch, you take it. Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity, and Douglas let his opportunity slip through his fingers because he was more worried about being one of the boys than being successful. HHH, HBK, Nash and Hall are 4 of the most influential wrestlers in the history of the business. At worst, Douglas would have been along for the ride.

Wasn't HHH's "The Game" gimmick more or less a shot in the face of "The Franchise" character?

I’m glad Shane was true to himself & didn’t play the political game by joining the kliq, but unfortunately the people that play politics always seem to come out on top.

Wasn't HHH's "The Game" gimmick more or less a shot in the face of "The Franchise" character? It seems so. Triple H was even dressing like Shane was. The hat, vest, t-shirt, and jeans look. It seemed pretty identical to Shane's ECW look.

The only way i could see Shawn dropping the belt to Douglas is if somebody helped Douglas win, setting up a feud between Shawn and said person, that would elevate Shawn to the main event scene. Shawn was on his way to the top around this time. The question is who could cost him the title? The WWF had a less than stellar heel roster. Diesel should have turned heel during his run and he could have cost HBK the title. Then with Diesel dropping the belt to Bret latter that year, Diesel could put over Shawn cleanly.
I have mixed feelings about Douglas. Part of me thinks he could really go and could cut a decent promo. But at the same time if someone were to ask me to name five of his greatest matches, it would take me a while to get a full five.

I was personally not a fan of the Bam Bam match or the 3 way, but I can see why they would be high up on greatest matches for Shane Douglas. I love the 4 Way from Heat Wave, it's one of my favorite matches. The Taz match, is this the House Party 99 match you are referring to?
