I got the 2DS last year, mainly for Pokemon. I got a good deal on it. 70 bucks and it was bundled with Mario Kart. But honestly, I’d just get a Switch, if you don’t have it already.
I bought Mario Maker but never really put any time into it. Ended up trading it in. I intended on getting more games but never got around to it. The 3DS has a great library supposedly, but I got it with the Switch release imminent and once I got that, the 2DS took a back seat. I was on a Pokemon high and pulled the trigger on it. I beat the story so I don’t regret it at all.
So I would say if it’s in your price range and if you don’t have it already, just get a Switch. Because Nintendo probably won’t be releasing anymore games for it. I think Metroid and Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon were the last hoorahs for it. But like I said, if it’s not in your price range, by all means go for the 2DS. Because it’s still Nintendo and Nintendo is awesome

The Switch is pretty pricey imo, and I'm not an enormous gamer and there aren't too many games for the Switch, are there?

But I see the 2DS/3DS stoping production sometime in 2018. I think it just had its last major releases with Pokemon and Metroid. Nintendo is going full steam ahead with the Switch going forward. Since it’s both a Home and handheld console. Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey are 2 of the best games of this year and maybe this decade.

Yeah I think it's pretty clear that the DS line is going to be phased out for the Switch. There's no point in having two handheld consoles.

It has moreso replaced the Wii than the 3DS line. The Wii U's failure showed just how strong the market is (still) for the 3DS. I think the portability of the Switch is more of a gimmick than anything else. The Switch is the new Wii, not necessarily the new 3DS. Don't you think?

Metroid: Samus Returns looks like a lot of fun but haven’t played to fully give my recommendation
