The fact that even Matt Hardy himself feels he has to go out publicly on social media and tell everybody that everybody in the 'Broken Universe' will be coming and not to worry, makes it seem like even he is already worrying and trying to desperately keep fans on board and invested. I can't believe how badly this is flopping so far. It's by far my favourite gimmick in a long, long time, but as of now it's not in depth enough. Simply having Matt Hardy do virtually nothing but 'laugh' and 'delete', even to the point that it's now both his entrance music and video package, isn't enough. Nobody has a clue about why he's doing it, and he just comes across as some crazy guy and it's all too random for everybody to buy into. He needs to be an obnoxious intellectual spurring off absolute p*sstake nonsense that he makes up on the spot to the point that it's borderline comical to be successful, like he did in TNA. It was clever. He acted a heel that was booked as a babyface which was over. Being this all-happy crazy man isn't the Broken character. It's also confusing since he seems to be very on point on social media, but nothing seems to materialise each week on TV.
The main reason that Broken Matt was so great was due to it being a cheesy 'so bad it's good' thing. Right now, it's more of the former.
If they were intending to use the Broken gimmick going forward, then I'm surprised that they've gone with having 'Woken' plastered all over his entrance tron. A lot of what made Broken Matt so good was that, while he did have full control, his character was different. You could tell he himself was just having an absolite sarcastic p*sstake with the whole thing which is what made it so great. Now, it has zero substance, and is just him coming across as some mad random scientist with an evil laugh. Plus, nobody is really sure what 'Woken' even means, and the majority which love the Broken gimmick just know it's a watered down alternative word to enable him to use the gimmick. Broken made sense. He was at breaking point to the point that he turned insane, leading to the character he is now. 'Woken', portrays more of a view that he's always been this character but that character has finally woken from this vessel. It's no where near enough substance to go by. I don't think having random meaningless matches against Heath Slater or Curtis Axel helps either. Promo's are 10x more valuable at this point in time, but they need to start getting deeper. We need promos from the Hardy Compound, from random places like Zoo's, even have him go to a random landmark in each City that Raw is in that week and just have him put his broken spin on it. Things which are different and we don't usually get are what we need from him right now while the gimmick is new to WWE.
