The problem with Impact

Could not care less about Impact right now. Have had these feelings off and on for the past several years. Nobody interests me, and whatever they have going with the MMA guys is an instant channel-changer. Just stale, boring slop week after week with a buncha no-names and WWE castoffs, at least that's what is implanted in my mind.

Solution? Is getting the audience drunk with tons of booze a viable option?

Impact has good talent, but other than Rosemary, i honestly dont care for the wrestlers character wise. Johnny Mundo is awesome on Lucha Underground, but on Impact he's eh. Hopefully that changes by BFG of this year. They're going through their thousandth transition in 3 years or so that they got cancelled by Spike. I do wish them well, but right now WWE and NJPW is enough current wrestling for me.

It’s an entire company of no-name Indy guys now... literally. Impact Wrestling is just another independent promotion.

They didn't squander EC3. He had a long run. He just couldn't quite click. The TV ratings kept dropping and even the Impact Zone fans cooled on him. Plus, his matches weren't... compelling. His grudge match with Spud was probably his best.

Impact still has far superior TV lighting and presentation to that of ROH. Though they do dirty up the look now with supplemental Indy show matches, those matches add a splash of variety.

And, Impact still has the beloved Jeremy Borash.

It’s difficult to discuss the future of Impact without delving into spoilers from the recent television tapings, but I think they’ll have enough leading characters for a good TV show.

Several people on this board and elsewhere have commented how in many ways Impact is nothing but an indy promotion with a tv show.
This recent talent exodus and overhaul really shows that.

Impact has lost the vast majority of their mainstays in the last few months (EC3, James Storm, Rockstar Spud, Lashley, many others).
And now seem to be adopting a "who can we get RIGHT NOW" type of mentality in booking. It doesn't help that they tape months of shows at one time now.

But throw on that the reliance on AAA/LU talent, trying to sign Rey Mysterio, and keeping Alberto El Patron around.
Once again, back to that "who can we get RIGHT NOW" mentality. I question if any of these guys will be around for the next tv tapings in a few months.

Impact seems to be setting themselves up to continue having one of their longest running problems, an unstable roster which translates to an unstable product. Kinda like an indy fed.

The good talent isn’t going to stick around when they can get to their goal... WWE. That’s why all of their talent winds up leaving. So they fill those voids with cheap, no-name indy workers.

The fact that I will be seeing a promotion (WrestlePro) in March at a local brewery, who have the Impact roster on their February show in New Jersey says a lot.

The RoH/NJPW relationship is a two-way street, though. You could also argue that half of NJPW's roster is RoH people.
Impact is very dependent on AAA/LU talent right now, but that does not go both ways between the two.

At the same time, on Impact having an prime time tv slot, and I have asked this before...
Who here actually has Poptv? For Reals, who?

Showing Scott D'Amore's Border City Wrestling matches on Impact Wrestling isn't the best for that show either. It makes it look so bush league and just like an indy fed with bad editing.
