Your host:Joey Styles
Dudley Boyz vs Eliminators for ECW Tag Titles- Basically a squash here but that total elimination finisher is still badass all these years later. Perry Saturn would get injured a month later leading to them losing the belts soon after. He would be in WCW by the end of the Summer. Energetic opener with a hot crowd to start us off here.
RVD vs Lance Storm- Pretty good match as the chemistry was there. RVD with the win after the Van Daminator. Post match Storm offers a handshake but RVD refuses. What a dastardly heel!!
Men’s Teioh, Dick Togo, & Taka Michinoku vs. Great Sasuke, Gran Hamada, & Masato Yakushiji-This was apart of ECW's deal with Michinoku Pro Wrestling. Fun match here that goes over 15 minutes. Sasuke with a dragon suplex over Taka for the win. Best match of the night so far. Enjoyable all around.
Pitbull #2 vs Shane Douglas for the ECW TV Title- Not bad here but went wayyyy to long. Who thought giving 20 minutes to a pitbull match was a good idea? This match was pretty much a brawl but for the most part but it worked.Douglas with the win after his signature belly to belly suplex. This would end the whole feud he had with the pitbulls as post match Brian Lee turns on the Franchise with guidance from none other than...RICK RUDE!! I remember marking out when Rude showed up in ECW. Rude would go on to be an announcer for a short period before joining the Triple Threat stable before finally leaving in the Fall.
Taz vs Sabu- One of my favorite feuds in ECW history. The build to this match was fantastic as the fans wanted to see these to face each other for over a year. I liked how there no contact between the two during that time period. The match itself was very good as you had a ton of brawling plus the added Sabu spots makes this must see for diehard ECW fans. Taz with the win after the Tazmission. Post match Bill Alfonso turns on Taz by aligning himself with Sabu and RVD which would start their memorable run together. Overall the match delivered in the end unlike Sting/Hogan...
Sandman vs Stevie Richards vs Terry Funk for a shot at the ECW World Title- Typical ECW 3 way dance here with a ton of weapons used. Stevie would get eliminated after a double powerbomb from Funk/Sandman. Funk would win a few minutes later after a moonsault on Sandman. Definitely weakest match of the night but the storytelling was great. Could the Funker at 52 years old win the World Title one more time?
Terry Funk vs Raven for the ECW Title- Tommy Dreamer comes in to help Funk to help fend off the flock. This match is not even 8 minutes long and the interaction between Funk and Raven is like literally only a minute long as the focus is put on Dreamer/Raven the whole time. Funk with the win after a roll up to win the title. Worst match of the night but to see Funk pull the underdog story to become champ at 52 years old makes up for it. Funker Forever!!
Overall for ECW's 1st PPV this was very good. By 99 their events would start to go downhill but for now they hit a homerun here. Job well done Mr. Heyman. EC-Dub EC-Dub EC-Dub!!! Verdict- Recommended
Next up per @anthony18's request we go back to 1988 for some WWF Prime Time Wrestling! Until next time Stay Classic...

were the Dudley's glorified jobbers at this point?
I’ve heard good reviews of Joey Styles handling the commentary by himself what was your opinion on how he handled it?
Was never a big fan of ECW but is a pretty good write up so may have to check this one out.

Was never a big fan of ECW but is a pretty good write up so may have to check this one out. They were definitely green as a team during this time period but I wouldn't call em glorified jobbers. It wouldn't take them long to get the ball rolling and become one of the best teams of their era.
I enjoyed Joey Styles in the booth. He was very good at what he did and that's call a wrestling match.I feel he deserves more recognition for his time in ECW.

WWF Prime Time Wrestling 3-21-88 Killer Bees vs The Conquistadores- Decent but nothing special match here. Bees with the win after pulling the ol' mask switcheroo. The Bees would be done by the Fall while surprisingly The Conquistadores would stay until 1990. Steve Lombardi vs SD Jones- Who gave this match 8 minutes??!! Lombardi ends this terrible match with a small package for the win. Next please... Hercules vs Scott Casey- Just a squash match here that went on almost the same time as Lombardi/Jones for reason I'll never understand. Herc with the backbreaker win. Up next for him:Ultimate Warrior at WM IV!!! Greg Valentine vs Lanny Poffo- Another squash here with Hammer getting the easy win with the figure 4 leg lock. Honky Tonk Man vs Jim Evans- Shake,Rattle and Roll for the easy win. Brutus Beefcake would come down post match taunting Honky to hype up their match for the IC Title at Mania. JYD vs George Petraski- Thump powerslam for the easy win for the dog. JYD was on his last legs of his WWF run as he was also gone by the Fall of this year. Ken Patera vs Tom Stone-Full Nelson ends Mr. Stone. After his feud with the Heenan Family and main eventing SSeries 87, Patera really did nothing of note for the remainder of his 2nd WWF run here. ''King' Harley Race vs Ultimate Warrior-Bad match here but thankfully it only went about 5 minutes. Race tried like hell but Warrior was just so green.Warrior with the win after a roll up. Race would be pretty much be done after Mania due to a abdominal injury during a match with Hulk Hogan that would ultimately end his career. Final Thoughts-What saves this episode is the timeless chemistry from hosts Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan. Every segment they're in is priceless whether it be the beginning with Bobby checking in at the front desk at the Trump Plaza when things go wrong or even the end with the pair on the AC boardwalk with Heenan having to push Gorilla in one of those carts with only one wheel. Wrestling will never have a team like these two again I can guarantee that. Verdict-Recommended

Stuff with Heenan and Gorilla was gold! I'm sure you enjoyed reviewing this since you are a Heenan guy:) Lombardi winning was surprising. Race must have hated losing to Warrior.

Yeah I enjoy them but can’t speak for all the other ham ‘n’ eggers on here.
I like that it’s a variety of shows from different eras and not just picking a wrestlemania.
Like the idea of reviewing tv shows as well. Your last prime time was great. For your next one would you be able to do an eighties NWA/JCP show?

Any one would be fine with me. I’ve very limited knowledge of the NWA but would love to learn more about it. Reading another fans point of view would gibe me a focal point on where to start learning more about it

How about Clash of Champions 1? You should post the review on 3/27- the 30 year anniversary.

NWA Clash of the Champions 1
Your hosts-Jim Ross,Bob Caudle,Tony Schiavone
Big day of wrestling on that day March 27th 1988 as you had WrestleMania IV and this going head to head.
Mike Rotundo vs Jimmy Garvin in an ''Amateur Rules Match'' for the NWA TV Title-Nothing special here but it wasn't the worst effort in the world considering the match type. Rotundo with the win after Kevin Sullivan distracts Garvin allowing a roll up for the 1 count per the rules. The post match stuff is great though with Precious (Garvin's Valet) attacking the Varsity Club with 2x4s and coat hangers. Imagine Miss Elizabeth doing that stuff during that time period.
Midnight Express vs The Fantastics- Who remembers these two teams feud in Mid-South? Awesome tag team wrestling here as was the norm with the NWA during the 80s. We get a Dusty finish as Fantastics think they win with the their rocket launcher finisher but the decision is reversed via DQ after they threw around the ref. Even with the finish the match it still all types of great. Good stuff.
Road Warriors/Dusty Rhodes vs Powers of Pain/Ivan Koloff in a barbed wire match- The barbed wire was barely used here. It's only about 4 minutes so I'll give it a pass. The babyfaces win after Animal pins Warlord after Barbarian accidently elbow drops him. Definite worst match of the show but fine for what it was.
Arn Anderson/Tully Blanchard vs Barry Windham/Lex Luger for NWA Tag Titles- Best match of the night IMO. Tag wrestling at it's finest. Windham/Luger win the belts to a MASSIVE pop after the Horsemen's chair shot backfire with Luger pinning Arn. Check this match out for sure. I can say this...NOTHING will ever top 80s tag wrestling and this match proves that.
Ric Flair vs Sting for the NWA World Title-The match that put Sting on the mat and for the most part it didn't disappoint. Ric Flair retains the title after a draw after about almost 40 minutes. It's amazing to see Sting put on a solid effort here after still being green up until this point. The in-ring work and hot crowd make this match a must see. They really made you feel Sting was going to win the big one on this night but that moment would come 2 years later. As for now great main event to end an excellent show.
Final thoughts- If you have never seen a NWA show before then this show is a good start. Only ''bad'' match is the 6 man and even that is a passable 4 minute brawl. With 2 great tag matches and a classic main event this is a easy Recommendation
Until next time...Stay Classic.

Clash 1>Wrestlemania 4.
Midnights vs Fantastics is one of the best 5 minute matches of all time😀 Flair vs Sting was great, but having it a draw was silly as Sting dominated most of the match.
Did this show really go head to head with WM 4? I wonder what the start times were? I think on the wwe 24/7 version of Clash1(which was a 20 year anniversary edition) Ric Flair said that his match went on just about the same time Savage vs Dibiase went on.

Clash definitely beat out Mania in terms of match quality but I still have a soft spot for the tournament.
I'm pretty sure they went head to head. Talk about a wrestling fan's dream!!

I rewatched Clash 1 today and Midnights vs Fantastics was actually 10 minutes unlike what I said above. IMO that was the best match of the night.

The 2 tag title matches were neck and neck with me but I went with Luger/Windham vs Arn/Tully by a hair. That MASSIVE pop post match still resonates with me 30 years later.
