He's right that AJ/Nakamura is NOT going to attract casual fans to WM. Those fans will come bc of Rousey. Those fans will come bc The Rock, if he is booked. NO ONE on the WWE roster is attracting a casual fan. AJ/Nakamura will attract fans though. both are pretty popular babyfaces.

See... I hate this mindset. I mean why can't WWE give all fans something to enjoy? You got two shows. WM will most likely be 4 hours. So why shouldn't they give all fans something to gravitate to? Give us an over the top spectacle. Give us pure wrestling. Give us comedy. Give us a lil of everything.
But Russo would rather give us a bathroom segment instead of a potential 5 star match up. And IMO, that's why he's not in the business anymore.

You know David Arquette winning the wcw title didn't bring in casual fans. The Nitro the day before he won did a 3.1. The following week it was a 2.5. But I'm sure Vince thought that was a much better idea than having the two best wrestlers have a match for the wwe title.

The match still won’t live up to the hype, so who cares? Russo may be a ing idiot, but so is Cornette and anyone else from that mindset who think wrestling needs to go back to their respective era.

I dont get why any wrestling fan would take Russos opinion to heart. If he feels that way, good for him. I care more about my opinion on wrestling than someone who only got success under Vince McMahon but failed in everything else hes done.

This might carry some weight if WWE had an illustrious history of booking title matches at Wrestlemania that draw money in recent years. But, this same title was on the line last year in a ten minute snoozefest between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt as part of one of the worst angles of 2017 (and in many years.)
They're throwing the ardent fan base a bone to quell the backlash over crowning Reigns. It's a consolation prize, but it's a good one.

So apparently building up new stars that already have a strong fanbase is a bad thing.
I don't really care what Russo thinks though. He's an idiot and has been irrelevant for the past 20 years. He's probably just doing things for attention.

NO ONE on the WWE roster is attracting a casual fan. Ronda Rousey / Brock Lesnar / John Cena / Undertaker / The Rock attract the casual fan. Asuka / Shinsuke Nakamura / AJ Styles / Seth Rollins / Samoa Joe etc. make them stay. That's the way I see it.

Why do you think they won't live up to the hype? They had a great match in Japan at WK10, so they have the chemistry.

I’m a giant AJ fan- bought all of his shirts and figures. He’s close to the only reason I watch WWE. However, I was much more excited for AJ’s feud with Jinder and match with Brock. This matchup with Nakamura has no depth. There’s nothing to it. It doesn’t at all feel like AJ’s greatest challenge yet, but just another match. It’s better than fighting KO again, but unless AJ or Shinsuke turn heel, or they start producing some funny vignettes, the feud won’t make for entertaining TV.
The Wrestlemania match will be great while it’s happening. But it’ll come and go. In the meantime the main event Smackdown segments are going to be so much time filler unless they build some story elements. Right now it seems like lazy writing.

lesnar and reigns will do nothing, the styles and nakamura will steal the show. and who if you guys care about another part timer like rhonda coming in to wrestle a few times a year like lesnar then fine, to me its a insult she needs to be a full time wrestler. part timers need to stay out and either be full timers or let the current full timers do there jobs.
and Vince has listen to the internet before remember the year Daniel Bryan won everything that was not suppose to happen Vince changed that from the original plans to be that way.

In a sense, he's right, but I'm not sure what he's suggesting as a viable alternative. Nakamura vs Owens and Styles vs Orton wouldn't be creating a new boom period, either.

Don't we have like 2 months to build the AJ match? I ask because of the responses saying there is no build. Someone won the Rumble. That person declared who he wanted to face. I would say the build started when Nak won the match.

At this point, casual fans are in it for the show, “Wrestlemania” is what keeps them coming back, no star affiliated with the company draws more than that name.

You know what casual fans would love to see as the main event at WM? Vince Russo vs. David Arquette for the universal title in a steel cage match. That will sure as hell put butts in seats! *facepalm*

At the end of the day, it's not an idiotic comment because essentially he's right. The Match is there purely to give those fans something to look forward to because we all know that Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns is what's Main Eventing. It stops them from completely souring on Vince's project and causing another Daniel Bryan situation. Simply put, if they were to go into Wrestlemania with what was most likely the original plan of Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns and Jinder Mahal vs John Cena for the Gold, those fans would once again start protesting that one of the Title spots hasn't gone to a Nakamura, Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, AJ Styles, the guys who work the best all year around only to get shafted for mainstream media season. At least they're starting to learn to appease both audiences, it's just a shame that it feels as though it's completely secondary and not the real deal.

I can kind of see his point, but to be fair WrestleMania has not been for the hardcore watch all the time wretsling fan for the better part of a decade now. It is all about the mainstream and people will watch it no matter what. With that being said, I fully expect Aj and Nakamura to tear the house down and I cannot wait for it.
