Since it’s such an important topic among football fans and has caused so much controversy, I figured the catch rule deserved it’s own thread. The current rule is confusing and hard to understand for everybody, even the officials. It’s decided multiple games (Pittsburgh/New England comes to mind). Since many people have different opinions on this topic, what are your ideas?

Mid field: Possession, if feet hit the ground catch, if they don't and the ball comes out then it's a drop. Feet hit and you drop afterwards, fumble.
Sidelines: Posession, two feet down, when the ball hits out of bounds the play is dead so no survive the ground crap.
Endzone: James' catch was a catch and they beat the Pats. Dez caught it and the Pokes win a playoff game. That's all I'm saying.

The only way the ground should affect a catch is if the player is airborne, then if they land and lose the ball it's not a catch.

This whole Catch Rule thing is probably the one and only drawback that's came from Instant Replay. You can break down and rewind and pause any and all plays so much that every nook and cranny of the entire catch process can be broken down by the officials. I'm surprised all of this didn't happen like 10 years ago already.

James was a catch. Clement and Ertz in the Super Bowl were both catches.
Dez still didn't catch it.

I've always been bothered that the ground can't cause a fumble but it can cause an incompletion. There needs to be consistency.
And the part about the receiver must "complete a football move" to show control. Sounds nice in theory but damn, they need an appendix to the rule book as to what constitutes a "football move". Better to drop that crap entirely.

Say a WR catches and is running, trips and ball comes out; I thought it’s a fumble.

Yes that is correct. I think he’s just referencing when a receiver seemingly has caught the ball but loses it when contacting the ground it’s incomplete, but when a RB is tackled and loses it he’s down. I get the question being raised, but it’s two completely different scenarios IMO.
