We all know the best anime is Cory in the House. That meme is older than Kyzer. Wait - what year is it?

Yeah, the one I've seen is Evangelion. That was dope.
This ones called Magic or Magical or something. There's this cat that harvests teenage girls for interdimensional energy in some sort of self fulfilling cycle where they trade their souls for their heart's desire and the power to fight the things they're all destined to become anyway. The fight scenes are what I figure an LSD trip to look like (or at the very least, are inspired by the sort of C+P, Monty Python animation style). It reminds me of Superior by Mark Millar if Superior were less on the nose and slightly more developed from a character standpoint.

Reading that, I'd say you should consider looking into Steins;Gate, In Search of the Lost Future and Another. They're all paranormal, Another less so than the other two. Steins is widely regarded as one of the best sci-fi and/or mystery anime ever made, for good reason. In Search of the Lost Future is more slice of life where you are more focused on the characters specific plots than the overarching theme that connects them. Another is one of my favorites ever. About a school that dealt with a series of gruesome deaths related to a phenomena that occurred in the 70s, a few years later a couple of deaths happen, and now 20 years later it's happening again and no one can figure out why this keeps occurring at certain intervals. That said, totally unrelated to that list but probably up your alley of murder mystery, give Danganronpa a chance. 16 kids put into a school unsuspectingly with Battle Royale rules. If someone kills another student and the group can't come to an agreement on who the killer is, the whole group dies and the killer goes free, the game is over. If the killer is caught, only the killer dies and the game continues. Surprising amount of morality and mortality questions around it, considering Japan went and took a solid premise and tossed an animatronic teddy bear in as the Overseer. It's ridiculously dark and brutal though, Monokuma (bear) aside. Very little comic relief. Just a straight up mystery.

I dunno what's next on the block, but I'd like to check one out I came across called Gunslinger Girl, which looked interesting. I'm by no means trying to check the boxes off or anything ('cause someone told me the big thing was this thing called Cool Fool or something and it looks stupid as sh*t) so much as trying to give the medium a fair shake rather than just writing it off on a blanket basis. Fun stuff: inspired by a friend who recently just saw it to completion, I've begun outlining and putting together some character sketches. Once Brennan is done (which should be sooner rather than later), I'm gonna finally buckle down and try my hand at an honest to goodness novel. There's a coming of age story that laid its roots 15 years ago - I just need to find the liberties and the cohesive artistry to give it an honest beginning, middle, and end.

Gunslinger Girl is very good. Not one I would have anticipated to catch your eye, hence my previous recommendations which share genres and themes with Evangelion. I want to write a novel. Originally, when I was writing the end of Malakai, the reason I did so many flashback scenes was because I planned on writing a faux biography of a dying man coming to terms with his failures in life, discovering as he went that his best experiences in his life came after the diagnosis and his eyes opened to a broader world. But also accepting that everybody knows that everybody dies, but that his world was black before he ever came to accept his own mortality.

From a personal view I know that my life was changed when I got the diagnoses that I have Crohn's Disease. At first it was all negative but in the long run I've found the positives. A big positive: it cured me of an almost obsessive desire for everything to be perfect. I went from a miserable never satisfied with anything perfectionist to a much happier realist who could take the bad with the good. I'd love to write a novel too but it would be a crappy space opera. I once wrote a Star Trek vs Aliens fan fiction thing that approached novel lengths. It's lost to the sands of time which is probably a good thing.

I mean, so many books have death and talk about death, but seeing it from the perspective of the dying person is not something touched upon much. There was a book I read a while back called Side Effects May Vary, it was a YA book but it caught my attention because the premise was a teenager with bad cancer and a bucket list. She does some nasty ish, getting away with it because of her condition, but then there's a twist that leaves her in some trouble. Worth the read, Harvey is a good, well written character. Worth it for a one day read, quick read.

Also, I don't know how many of you play D&D, but I recently started my first ever campaign as a DM. I call it Sons of the Vanguard and its very Wild-West-ish with disease, crazy dark magic, and a general propensity for the players to venture on the frontier. I had my first session the other day and I thought it went extremely well. Right now, I'm writing for the second session to include a clan of furious red orcs who have high-level magic with this crazy black stone the players found last session.
So, do you guys play D&D? Do you prefer to be the DM or a player? Personally, I love being both, but the storytelling aspect of being a DM really gets me, lol.

I once did, a long time ago in what feels like a previous life. I had all the original books: the Player's Handbook, DM guide, Monster Manual, ?Fiend Folio?, multiple sets of crystal dice, etc. I was full on D&D geek for about a year or two. Always preferred player to GM although I did design a few dungeons for our designated DM. Eventually I gave it up because I preferred going out to clubs to catch live bands over spending hours locked in a basement rolling dice and hoping for a critical hit. Those same friends are the ones who dragged me into a five year World of Warcraft addiction too. That damn game was harder to give up than smoking.

Yea, I think the time is hardest part about this game. Each session is 3-4 hours long and if you're interesting and always up to something, it's hard to sit down and play straight. My players and I are all going on separate vacations in the coming weeks so its a bit hectic at the moment. Never heard of a Fiend Folio though, sounds really interesting.

It was the follow up to the original Monster Manual, almost identical in format but with all new monsters.

I never played D&D, but I do have quite a bit of history with Vampire: the Masquerade. I started playing that in 8th or 9th grade (which would be approximately 18 to 20 years ago, for those of you keeping score at home). Never tabletop - always LARP. Back then we'd descend upon the courtyard outside the city library (since it originated as a tabletop campaign before the library denied us cool goth kids a room to use on the reg) after dark and play 'til about 11, alternating between in character and breaks to go drink Red Dog underneath the pedestrian bridge out back. Years later (15 years ago for those of you making the timeline), I got involved in a LARP that had exclusive access to an entire building at UMASS every other week, and this was a huge group - like enough for each clan to be represented with a primogen, a whip, and more than 2 underlings each. These folks really got into it - everyone dressed down for their character and everything. This game had an entire established governmental structure. My biggest regret was allowing the blood sucking harpy I was dating at the time to get involved, because when that went south, she'd by then adopted the group as her own which left me on the outs. Kinda miss it, but as noted above, it's one hell of a time suck.

I play once a week and have for nearly two years now. Heck, for the two of you who remember my run as Austin Hayes I did both of my RPs in campaigns, one a Pathfinder campaign and another a Vampire: The Masquerade campaign. Me an my friends have transitioned to only D&D 5e because we were getting all of the rules mixed up. I've never DMed before but I'd like to try it for a one shot to see how it is.

King Richius Deep Figure Value wanna give you two a heads up. We're cracking down on censor beating. So I'd post a notice for people to write certain words with more *'s. Rich can attest to this. Wanna keep the board as free as possible without the emojis since we're writing stories. Just wanted to warn creative writing. So s***, f*** instead of a one letter omit. Don't take the chance, just in case randoms who get warned start trolling the creative writing boards. Sh*t doesn't beat the censor, but just don't wanna take chances, just in case. I don't care one way or the other, but rules be rules, first to know be you.

As I told Brennan in PM, all I did was pass along a warning to y'all because this has happened before. Hell, it got McGurk unmodded and was one of the catalysts that had Jack replace Yukio. I'm just the messenger. Do what ya want, y'all know people come into WFWF when they're upset from other boards and report ish because they're bitter. Look at Drakz a little while back. Warning bar AND he had his work for that show deleted permanently. Partly because his title was visible to every human on earth, but also some bitter ish from someone outside the place.
What y'all do with it is up to you, don't shoot the messenger just trying to make sure crap doesn't go down, especially since WFWF currently has quite a few...ahem...gritty writers.
I hate the thought of creativity being hindered in any way. But it's not like your content has to change (unless you write an RP about killing adult workers in the back of cars or something then that's a whole different animal). No one's work is vile content wise. S*it isn't even breaking censors. It's just that if enough reports go through from other boards because people who legit broke censors take temper tantrums and go after self censoring because "YOU WARNED ME WARN THEM TOO" and they come in droves, which always happens when ish hits the fan elsewhere...eventually the other shoe will drop from other authority members. Always has a way of making its way here. And I just don't want to risk the board I love so much getting caught in the crossfire because of a tantrum from elsewhere.

Hey guys, can we not make too big a deal out of a minor request? There's no real difference between using one asterisk or three asterisks so your character can say f*** or s***. Some writers have been doing the self censoring that way all along, like Markw. I started switching to it myself a few months back, although not consistently. It's a small ask by us to make sure we don't ruffle any feathers with the hundreds of non-WFigs members on the boards who might cruise through here and say "Why are these guys so special?" We're not special. We have to play within the TOS of the site as a whole. If someone decides to report an RP, the site admins have to respond as they would to any complaint about any post. I will go to bat for any one of you who is called into question for content in your RP that pushes boundaries into PG-13 or TV-MA because we are clearly writing fiction pieces for entertainment and are due some liberties because it is art. But I'm not going to bat over a few asterisks.
