Reports are currently saying that Toys R Us could collapse in the next couple of days if they fail to fetch £15 million for a VAT bill. They could be saved like HMV were, though due to their large warehouse style stores, it’s far more difficult.

And they're into administration. It's still possible that some stores could be saved but expect most to close. Especially the huge warehouse style ones because they underperform apparently. My local one is a big one so it looks like it's Sayonara Geoffrey for me.
Really hope Entertainer does keep up its recent surge because otherwise we only really have Smyths now. And a lot of people don't live near one.

Sad news... even though most of their prices were insane, it was still nice to have them.
I still have a £40 credit note, so I'm going to quickly go to my local store to spend it on something!

A big concern I have is that Smyths and The Entertainer will see this as a window to knock their prices up. Though I'm not sure on this, as I guess they are still competing with online retailers. I can see The Entertainer snatching up the smaller Toys R Us stores, and Smyths possibly a couple of bigger ones, though a lot of the warehouse ones will sit empty I think.
I'm hoping that say, in ten years or so, we will all be bored of just ordering everything online, and this will see a resurrection of smaller independent stores, kind of like the ones Toys R Us originally put out of business. Like how vinyl records have come back into popularity.

With the shops closing down have any of the E56 figs been discounted?

Smyths(WCW) won here I think.
Their stores are fresh and ready for 2018 and they keep up with what is hot and get it on shelves in healthy stock. Been very aggressive with sales too.
I think the consumer base has moved on from the ramshackle offerings that TRU possesses these days, stuck in the 1990s. Sad to see it go under but was inevitable since they had no interest in evolving their image.

I hope you don't have a Sid! Lol... actually there weren't any Sids! Plenty of Magnum, Regal and Harlem Heat though - and very little else. I came away with the Universal Title belt and a couple of Star Wars figures... at least the credit note has been spent though.

I’d argue their stores are just the right size too, not small, but not too big either. And it all fits into a usual retail park

TRU just never moved with the times.
Their website wasn't as user friendly as it could be, items often had wrong pictures (WWE figures definitely showed pictures of older series)
In-store they are reluctant to reduce toys, outside of rare offers, in order to clear old stock. TRU either missed or were behind with so many series because they were still charging full whack for older figures which clogged shelves
One of the larger TRUs near me still has Dolph Ziggler and Damian Sandow figures from the BAF Paul Bearer set, on shelves at full price, and that set is what 3-4 years old at least???
Its a shame because TRU used to be the place to pick up WWE Mattels back in the early/mid 2010s. I started collecting around Elite 7-time and still remember walking into TRU and picking up all the DX and John Cena elites
I just hope the Entertainer keep up with the sudden boom in WWE figures they seem to have so there is an alternative out there to Smyths

Ever since the Jakks/Mattel switch I’ve disregarded Toys R Us really.

I mean its a tragedy but i can`t be the only one perched with my wallet ready to pounce.. The stores likely won’t be liquidating anything. As they’ll most like close MOST stores and transfer the product between stores and their online warehouse.

It's just a landing screen redirecting you to "great deals in store". Brutha brutha...

Curse this snow! My nearest TRU is about a 14 mile drive towards the area of the map marked as "risk to life". Saying that, it's Swindon so the warning comes regardless of the weather.

My store in Gateshead has closing down signs all over it. Some of the stock is 20% off, including WWE and Star Wars. They just got the WM34 elites and battle packs in too, just in time for the store to be shut.
