Hey guys
I’m from the UK and got in to wrestling in the early 90’s. Due to my location and limited coverage, it was only the WWF I watched, with the occasional WCW show.
Recently, I’ve been reading a few things on the USWA and GWF. Were any of you fans of these? Any memories you’d like to share or recommended matches to look up?
Also, I read that the WWF sued the GWF because they felt “Global” was in the same definition as “World”. (Source:wiki) Any one got any more information on this.

When it comes to the USWA I definitely recommend checking out the feud between Eddie Gilbert and Jerry Lawler circa 1990.

I was lucky in the early 90s that I had a TV station that ran these territory wrestling shows every night at 7 pm.
So I got to witness first hand in watching Eastern Championship Wrestling, Smoky Mountain Wrestling, GWF, USWA, IWCCW, SAPW, and Herb Abrams UWF.
I was like 12 or 13 at the time when this was happening so I was in pure heaven. Wrestling every night, plus WWF and WCW on weekends. I just wish I would have taped them all.

Being in Ireland I had the same exposure as you did man. USWA & GWF ran on Eurosport if I remember correctly. I was(and still am) a HUGE fan of the Patriot & used to love seeing him in action.
Used to love reading about the goings on in the territories in PWI when I was a kid....inspired SO many stories for my Hasbro fed.

I seem to remember some European wrestling on Eurosport around that time. Never knew of the American feds on there though. The pre internet days were pretty amazing. I used to love getting PWI and superstars of wrestling etc and reading the results of all these smaller feds. I’d spend hours going through the results, looking for ex WWF wrestlers featuring in some fed i’d never heard of. A misspent child hood but wouldn’t trade those days in for the world. Oh and definitely gonna check out the Eddie Gilbert-Lawler feud. I’ve heard so much about Gilbert but never seen him in action. Apparently he had one of the sharpest minds in the business.

Gilbert vs Lawler was great. They had SERIOUS SERIOUS chemistry. Then during the Texas vs Tennessee feuds? they would be on the same side vs Funk etc.....ah great stuff.
Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert is one serious legend.

Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert is one serious legend. Eddie Gilbert was wrestling's last true outlaw, and I loved him for it. He would appear in USWA, then before you knew it he was in GWF, then in ECW, then back in USWA, then in SMW, and such. Just a real dude who didn't put up with anyone's bullcrap in the business.

Been going back and watching a ton of ECW circa 93. Loved the stable with him,Heyman,Muraco and Snuka.
