Hi forum Do any of you collectors have insurance for your collections? I’m with Hiscox UK. Easy enough to set up.
Any thoughts or tips with insurance?
Thought mention it as some may not be aware.

How does setting up the insurance actually work? Same as with any other type of insurance. Tell them what you have and its value etc and they quote you

When listing items what price of value do you put ?
The price you paid or what it will cost in today’s market to replace ?

When listing items what price of value do you put ? The price you paid or what it will cost in today’s market to replace ? Why would you ever list the price you paid? If I got something for $5 but it's worth $20,000 now... who in their right mind would say "Oh just give me my initial fiver back. It's cool."

I have $10,000 coverage, like Nivro said it won't replace everything but it will cover what I treasure most.

Yeh i understand that but just thought insurance companies can be a holes at times in the event of a claim for any reason.

In the same token, what if you paid 20,000 and it’s now worth 5?

Its built into my mortgage so Id have to pull the paper work and see (I only get the invoices from the insurance company every april) but if I remember correctly its only like $50-$75/month I think. Its about the same cost as my car insurance lol

Anything you're trying to get from an insurance claim, needs documentation of value. Devaluation is a shame, but it's not much different than buying a forgery of some sort. You can't say a painting, autograph, jewelry, etc... is worth $10,000 just because you paid for it, if it's found to be fake. Same thing with any valuable. If gold or silver were to crash, tons of people would be screwed.
