Was watching this earlier and during a Benoit/Malenko vs Chavo/Kaz Hayashi match Schiavone out of nowhere rips into Mike Tenay and Larry Zbyszko on commentary. This was during the time Ric Flair was ''President''. Tenay was questioning Flair in charge so that's when Tony started heeling it up. It really felt out of nowhere but it was interesting to say the least.
I know TNA tried having a heel Schiavone in 2003 but imagine if he was a heel in a WCW setting. Anyway nothing came of it as week later Tenay became lead on Thunder but man it makes you think what could've been if they followed up on this.

The more I watch old episodes of Nitro and Thunder the more I see Schiavone doing what he could to make his partners look like fools. I think he was just a jackass at times.

I think he was just a jackass at times.Yeah it seemed that way especially in the late 90s. One time that immediately comes to mind is when Gorilla Monsoon died and Tony was against giving him an on-air tribute due to him never working for WCW but then Heenan stepped in and demanded it.
Back on topic I'm surprised the company didn't turn em during this time as Flair's official ''commentator''. I think it could've worked out.

From when Schiavone did JR's podcast, and he talks about the heat, and how he deserves anything negative Heenan had said about him, and at the end, talks about the Gorilla Monsoon bit on Nitro.

Don't get me wrong I've always been a Schiavone fan as far as his commentary goes but at times you could tell he could be a douche.

Yeah, he's a rarity in the wrestling business, by owning up to being wrong. More times than not, you see guys that will try to blame other people, or say they were not wrong in what they did, but he actually takes the blame for doing what he did, in hurting his relationship with Bobby.

Schiavone can eat s***. He can apologize all he wants but he was a huge a** in the 90s. He treated Bobby, one of the greatest performers and commentators ever, like literal crap. Was never a fan of his commentary either.

Tony in a way had a very good reason to be the way he did. You have to remember Tony was the voice of WCW/NWA until Crockett bought out Mid South and they drug Jim Ross in and made it a 3 man announce team (which sucked back then too)...Tony was basically ran off for no rhyme or reason and replaced. With WCW bringing in "anyone they could" and having already been unnecessarily pushed aside once before, I would have became defensive of my spot too. You're taking money out of my pockets & food off my kids table.

i love heenan, but I can understand why schiavone would get frustrated. bobby acted like a total clown in wcw for the most part unless Mr Perfect or Goldberg were in there.

He didn't want him to be the same way he was in the WWF. Which is BS in my book because if there is one guy you should never change as far as commentary goes it's Heenan.

Which is BS in my book because if there is one guy you should never change as far as commentary goes it's Heenan. Its always easy to blame someone else. Did Bischoff get Heenan drunk before a PPV? He just didnt put his all into his work. The blame imo, is on Heenan. Even if he was saddled to a degree, you can still make the effort to make it as good as you can. Heenan didnt do it. He "phoned it home" is what most people use to describe his time in WCW. And thats a shame.

I'm sure he was miserable and just said screw it.
I recall a shoot he did after WCW folded in which he basically said how frustrating it was to work there.

That 3 man group is incrible compared to anything WWE has currently I agree. Even though I'll always prefer the 2 man booth, the old 3 man announce teams from back in the day DESTROY the current ones in WWE.
