Ridiculous. I think once you pay for a tattoo it is yours and the artist's compensation ends there. Nobody is selling signed 8×10's with close ups of Randy Orton's arms. People are not buying games or figures because of the image that the tattoo artist designed, it just happens to be a part of the likeness of that character. This is a pathetic money grab.

If the tattooist can claim copyright then can they tell the person they tattooed that they no longer want them to have their "art" on them?

What a ing idiot. Next week we’ll be hearing that the surgeon who fixed Cena’s nose wants money for their “art” too. This is a pathetic money grab. It’s a frivolous lawsuit that should be laughed out of court.

The tattoo artist in question doesn't have much of a case. Band logos are a different case. Why? Band logos are copyrighted. Unless a tattoo is copyrighted, suing another party is null and void.

She would be better off suing because of how half assed the last two games have been in terms of game modes and bugs/glitches.

Again it is the same in Madden. They are copyrighted artwork and the tattoo artists have to sign off on having their tattoos in the game. That is why only Kapernick had them in the last couple titles.

I hope the tattoo artist doesn't win the case. Absolutely stupid

Video game creators for the most part don't care enough to include tattoos because it's more work for them. If they do it for one person, then they have to do it for everyone in a sports game. In wrestling, it's easy; but in MLB, NFL, etc it would take forever to add everyone's ink since there are about a hundred guys with tats.

The EA developers said in Madden 16 or 17 whichever was the first year that Kapernick had his tattoos in the game that the players needed to get the tattoo artists to sign some paper/contract allowing them to put the tattoos into the game and Kapernick and OBJ (?) were the only two that did it.

I think this is a ridiculous claim. The images are on Randy Orton’s skin, he paid for the tattoo so the tattoo is his. Someone can’t and shouldn’t really be able to have copyright claims to something imprinted onto you, especially something that isn’t even a major brand logo. I hate people who make posts and are to lazy to post the article up and not just the link. All you had to do was click a link to get to the article, if anyone is lazy, it’s you.

And Martavis Bryant neck tat. Same reason 2k is in a huge lawsuit about their basketball game. Tons of artist are suing them, and winning.

My GF is a tattoo artist. She believes this is ridiculous. Nobody is buying Randy’s merchandise because of his tattoos. And the WWE isn’t making money by selling her designs. They arnt infringing on a copyright either as they aren’t making money by selling “Randy Orton tattoo sets.”
Randy paid her for the work. That was her payout. The tattoos are apart of his likeness, and when he signs his likeness over to someone, that includes his tattoos.
Im no lawyer, but if she wins this, it opens a whole pile of crap. It basically opens the question as to do artists have the right to tell someone how to display the tattoos that they already paid for.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if she wins this to see the WWE contract out to certain artists, and any signed wrestler who wants a tattoo would need to go to someone who is contracted with them.

The tattoo artist in question doesn't have much of a case. Band logos are a different case. Why? Band logos are copyrighted. Unless a tattoo is copyrighted, suing another party is null and void. This raises yet another interesting question. Could a band sue an artist OR customer for using their logo? I can see why they wouldn't want to sue the customer, but as to the artist, they're technically reproducing copyrighted material for profit. I know from time to time some ink and paint artists get C&D letters from companies like Disney that tell them to stop selling prints of work they've done because it's of copyrighted character work. All you had to do was click a link to get to the article, if anyone is lazy, it’s you. Don't. You won't win, you'll just get a warning bar.

She's seriously trying to claim sort of copyright to some squiggly lines, a bunch of skulls, roses, and bible verses. She should be laughed out of the courts, but only after the judge berates her with a hearty "It ain't the Mona Lisa. Get over yourself." the 40 something dead authors of the bible should sue all tattoo artists for using their quotes.
